Best place on the island!!! Right next to the beach, food store and food trucks. The hostel is very basic and has all you need. We stayed 1month and I couldn’t ask for more, staff was amazing!! All the bad reviews must be from people who don’t understand north shore vibe. It’s tropical island and you will meet friendly gekos and cockroaches❤️❤️ Back house is the best option! Can’t wait to be back in winter🤟🤟 Thank you backpackers team 🔥🔥🌺🌺
The ONLY great thing about this place is it's location and that you can borrow snorkel gear free with a deposit. Otherwise, we paid almost $650 for a room with double bed and kitchenette for 4 nights that was not worth that price. Beds were very hard and uncomfortable, bedspread was faded and dirty looking, bathroom was grimey. Pillows were old and flattened. No fitted sheets, just flats on top of a mattress cover that had sand on it. There was no informational sheet, only what the desk clerk told you upon check in. Our 3rd night the water was shut off as the building we were in had a water leak somewhere. That occurred right about the time people were coming back from the beach and would want showers and kitchen use. Room was hot, no AC and bathroom fan didn't vent well. Kitchen supplies we're basic but hotplate did not work. Had to get a different one. They do provide a sponge and dish soap, toilet paper and small thin towels. There was a TV but not a lot of channels available. WiFi did not extend to our building and where it was available it was very weak. Furniture is worn. If you only want a place to shower and cook that is right on the beach, then you’ll be OK. Otherwise, there is no quality to this lodging.
The place has the best location possible on the North Shore. It has very simple installations but people were respectful with sleeping hours and not noisy at all. Great food trucks nearby. They will lend you snorkel for some adventures in the nearby Shark's Cove. I will definitely go back. It is on the north shore and very close to the forest so expect a few bugs.
This place is a rip off. It nearly ruined my honeymoon. They tried to cover up the awful smell with bleach. Then it was dirty with bugs all over the place roaches crawling and flying on the walls. Even after I sprayed the entire room with Lysol there were still bugs. I slept in the car for sanity and then went to a hotel for the remainder of my stay. After all this these people still did not refund me anything for this disgusting place with no air conditioning. Don't do it
My friend and I stayed in the beach building for a week and we couldn't have picked a better spot on the north shore. Our room had an ocean view and a nice back porch area that was great for watching the sunset. There was amazing snorkeling just footsteps away and the main office rents the gear for free. The place is also just a quick drive away from the cute town of Haliewa that has restaurants and shopping, and within walking distance from the grocery store. The staff was great and really friendly - full of great recommendations for places to eat, hike, and earn to surf! The rooms were a little out dated and could have used some upgrades but overall we were very happy with our choice to stay here! All in all, if you want an authentic, friendly north shore experience and don't mind sacrificing some comforts for better pricing, this is a great spot to stay!
We absolutely loved this hostel! My friend and I have traveled quite a bit and were a little nervous before our arrival to Oahu because it’s said to be SO expensive to stay on the beach there.. But! We were AMAZED that we were able to stay literally right. on. the. beach. Are you kidding?! We looked at prices of Airbnb’s and vacation rentals around the area and to stay right on the beach this is by far the cheapest and best option. Older style rooms but c’mon, you don’t go to Hawaii to stay in your room the entire time so why should that even matter? Solid space with incredible view, awesome staff (we were even given free coconuts at check in by the owner - how cool!), and suggestions of so many activities. Loved it!!
Absolutely terrible. Not enough words to describe how dirty and disgusting the place is. Aggressive, abusive male staff treated my partner & me in the same disgusting manner. Hope you’re reading all these bad reviews before your trip to Hawaii and not after... lots of other way better options!
Do not stay in this place! I had to sleep in my car after hearing and seeing a rat in my room. I understand that it's Hawaii and they are everywhere but this place really needs to look into proper pest control, when I spoke to reception she said that she would get the handyman to come and look- no this place needs more than a handyman. Not good enough. The worst hostel I have ever stayed in. I didn't even want to speak to the manager/owner if he/she keeps her business like this.
We spent 1 week at the Plantation Village in a private room. Except the staff who isn't very friendly, the people were very friendly and we did a lot of tings togheter (Cliff jumping, snorkelling, treks...). The Plantation Village has a little commun area with a shared kitchen, pretty nice to be able to cook commun food for/with everyone!
Fantastic location and the view is amazing from the back building 3rd floor kitchen and deck areas where we stayed. It's super basic for what I thought was alot of money and the towels were literally rags. We had a nice rat eat our bread and the highlight was watching the couple that showed up 45 min prior to checkout, supposedly to clean, make out right in front of us like we were invisible!! Gotta love those North Shore surfer/stoner kids!
