I never write reviews, but I want to save others from the pain of this area. The staff was very unhelpful with everything. It was the first time in Vietnam that I felt unwelcome. They told me they would give me a ride to my cruise line, but when the time came they said they couldn’t. I then asked for a taxi and the staff told me they didn’t know where the cruise port was. I find it strange that a hotel in the area didn’t know where the cruise port was. I also asked how to get to Monkey Island and they told me they had never heard of it (it’s a huge tourist attraction, so again I find that odd). Also, there is absolutely nothing to do in the area. Construction zone and ghost town. The beach was the ugliest, most depressing beach. Avoid Ha Long/Cat Ba area! Even the cruise was a terrible experience. Would never recommend to ANYONE!
