We had a comfy stay in nh hotel de ville. It is just a minute walk from Vismarkt and groote markt. The general interior is nice, the room size was bigger than usual. Bed was very comfortable! Only con would be the thin walls, so you may hear your neighbors shower. It was not our first stay here and we will stay here again.

We had a first floor room overlooking the inner courtyard. We did not have any noise or wifi issues that other reviewers note. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the linens adequate. Friendly staff. No air conditioning. The valet parking is essential! the hotel is not easy to reach by car, but once found, it is an ideal location for exploring the inner city. The breakfast buffet is satisfactory. Dinner at the ala carte restaurant was just OK -- our group was forced into the set menu (mackerel starter and veal main) which was OK, but the service was extremely slow for a non-busy night. Recommend the hotel, but not the restaurant.

This is a nice hotel, clean, well run, stylish & central. The room was large & well appointed, but we had to leave the windows open because of the heatwave and were woken a couple of times by drunken idiots in the alleyway below. I was very irritated by the free wi-fi, which is explicitly inhibited to stop streaming, but was slower than 3G and in a hotel with it's apparent aspiration, this is a foolish way to try & get money from the customer. The staff however were delightful & the breakfast was impressively varied. But - and it's a pretty big but, finding it in a car is difficult and it's on a narrow one way street so you really need the offered valet parking - which has a maximum height of 1.8m - not enough for our van.

I stayed here for a week in November 2016 on a business trip. The hotel has a great central location, the room was spacious & comfortable. The choice at breakfast was also very good. Hotel is situated about a 5 min walk from town center and is close to many good restaurants & bars. The Hotel staff were friendly, efficient, and always helpful.

I really loved this hotel. Stayed here 5 nights. Our room overlooked the inside courtyard. Very beautiful and peaceful. You can sit inside or outside. There us bar service. One evening some guests were up late outside right outside my window. I asked the front desk if they could move inside, which they handled immedately and very politely. Every afternoon the hotel sits out fresh water and small treats. In the morning there are apples. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels. This is not high end, but it was really very nice and I would stay here again. Only complaints: no clocks in the rooms and poor bathroom lighting.

This hotel is nothing for a short business trip. If you stay just one night and even if you choose a high rate they give you a bad room. After I got into my room I saw directly that it is in front of a busy road with a koffie shop just next to the hotel. I ask to change the room but the reception operator refused it. So I could not sleep the whole night. Bad service and not clean at all. Maybe I had the wrong room.

It's a chain hotel and you feel that but perfectly adequate and you know that you're getting a certain standard. Efficient and friendly staff. Shocking wi-fi. Do not advertise free wi-fi if it is not functional . This seems to be a NH thing because the same applied at NH Hotel Utrecht and the staff seemed aware of the issue. We had excellent wi-fi everywhere else in Holland. Despite borrowing a laptop from reception, the only time wi-fi worked properly was 4.30 am- we had to set an alarm to try to send urgent emails! Despite requesting a quiet room, we were assigned a room directly above the main meeting room and patio in the hotel which meant noise disruption. Nasty stain on carpet in entrance could be covered by a runner or rug.

Very good hotel, conveniently located near to the center of Groningen.Easy walking distance to town center. Breakfast choices very good. We used the hotel as base when visiting the Dutch MotoGP at Assen.

I stayed there for 4 nights on a business trip and everything is good at this hotel. It is conveniently located near the grote markt where you can take the bus anywhere. There are also a lot of nice restaurants around. The breakfast is great as usual in Nh hotels. Staff are also nice and friendly.

I am writing this review under the assumption that people who read TripAdvisor might put attention on Internet-availability when choosing a hotel. For me a working WiFi connection in my room is as essential as running hot water (much less essential than a minibar) and a key point I expect from any hotel these days. I have been staying in the NH Groningen Hotel de Ville for a total of five days in May 2017. My room was in the 3rd floor (305 to be precise). Already at the first day I realized that the WiFi connection in my room had very weak strength. I would like to note that this has been an issue of WiFi coverage and not of free vs. purchased WiFi. The hotel offers both options but the difference is not the download speed, but the amount of data one is allowed to download. Without working connection this becomes irrelevant. I then complained at the hotel staff and after some back and forth they told me that their equipment is old, that they are aware of the problem and that there is nothing they can do. I talked to many people during my stay (since I had to spend a lot of time in the lobby where the Internet worked) and saw that I was not alone with my problem. WiFi seems to be absent on the entire 3rd floor, weak on the 2nd floor and somehow working on the 1st floor. Since the issue was severe, did not improve in any way over the 5 days and seems to be widespread in the hotel, I cannot recommend NH Groningen Hotel de Ville to anyone. I do not plan to return to NH Groningen Hotel de Ville again. The other hotel facilities are fine (but not exceptional) and there is really no reason whatsoever to stay at the NH Groningen Hotel de Ville in my view.
