A charming guesthouse, less than 10 min walk from Hillsborough centre, and with good bus connection, at least during day time. There are rooms in the main building and cottages in the spacious garden. We stayed in a 2-bedroom suit in the main building: this arrangement suited our family size perfectly. We had a mini fridge and a kettle. WiFi was included, but weak in the master bedroom. In an attempt to save water, our toilet had a foot lever releasing a minimal water flush only, similar to European train toilets in the 60s and 70s. Waste seemed to go straight into a septic tank: there was no U-tube with a water lock. As a result, the toilet/bathroom was somewhat smelly. The lack of standing water in the toilet bowl did not seem to prevent mosquitoes from breeding (somewhere) in the bathroom, but we had no insect problem in the bedrooms, with the fans running at night. The common area has books and comfy chairs. We had the room next to that area, but there was no noise disturbance at night, although there were other guests next to us. We did, however, suggest heavier blinds or curtains for our rooms’ windows, as the light from that area penetrated one of the bedrooms. The veranda light, which can only be controlled from the common area, shone into the other bedroom. Hotel management was grateful for our suggestions, so I think they will improve this aspect. European-style continental breakfast was included in the price. It was served in an up-stairs veranda with a spectacular view. We liked to sit up there in the afternoons too, just for these views. The Green Roof Inn also serves dinner (except Mondays), but no lunch. The dinner menu is, understandably, limited. Food was delicious, but pricey. You are allowed to bring your own wine, which helped offset the dinner cost. Staff recommended their beach restaurant in Hillsborough “La Playa” for lunch – see separate review. Just to say that La Playa is just as far or close as other nearby options. A staircase from the garden to the sea provides access to the water, but there is no beach. The rocky waters looked inviting for snorkelling, but the water turned out to be more turbid than we had thought. There were also many white sea urchins. Overall, a pleasant stay in a tasteful guesthouse
A very pleasant place , we arrived to a tropical strom , we were left alone in the hotel. Though were given two lanterns powered by tea lights in case the power went down . We knew there was no air conditioning and mosquito nets however it was so uncomfortable and even with so much bug resistance products we could not cope with the amount of insect bites. We felt quite vulnerable as we were the only people in the hotel. We had popped over from Grenada for 3 nights but stayed only one . Just did not suit us .
Lovely setting for this propert overlooking the bay, garden bungalows very quaint. On site restaurant serves excellent dinner and is where you have breakfast. About a 15 minute walk into Hillsborough itself
Lovely stay at the Green Roof Inn, slightly out of town and on a hill so get a wonderful Caribbean breeze. Rooms can get a little buggy so bring some spay. Food delicious as was the rum, the staff were very friendly and check out the Fidel Castro cocktail yum.
This restaurant looks shut as you enter it through a gate. However once you ascertain the opening hours it is well worth a visit. Again probably this and The Roundhouse are two of the best restaurants on the Island. You are by the sea but unfortunately this was not lit up at night so worth a visit during the day if they are open! Nice surroundings and great food.
Excellent friendly service, limited but very good menu. Creative cocktail menu. We had Calloloo soup and gravad kingfish appetizers. Calloloo soup was thick and flavorful reminded me of kale. The fish was very fresh! Entrees- we both had the yellowfin tuna, very fresh and cooked to ordet perfectly, the veggies were perfect and rice side was good. Would go back anytime. Not inexpensive but worth the price tag.
We have been travelling all over Caribbean. This place is very special. It is absolutely beautiful. We were nervous as the old reviews from 2014 were not great, but were short on options. They have clearly invested so much time & money since then and it shows. I cannot stress enough, you have no need to worry, like we did. From the moment we stepped inside the whole time was a dream. It's what we travelled for. The reception is calm, charming & stylish, the staff are so gentle & relaxed. Our room had two separate bedrooms which was great as we had our teenage daughter with us. It was so pretty, own seating on veranda with view over the garden out to sea. All the furniture is clearly hand picked by someone with a lot of design style. Nice to come back of an evening, have dinner in the beautiful little restaurant with fairy lights and relax in this little private haven. You can walk to the main town Hillsborough (10 minutes) We did everyday and got the little public buses all over the island from there. We saw some of the other hotels & Inns. There is no doubt this blows them away. The photos just don't capture the charm. There are plenty of staff around to help but not invasive. They did our weeks of travelling laundry with no trouble or fuss while we went out for the day and they made all our whites bling again. Honestly I wouldn't dare mislead a fellow traveller, I know that time is precious and good experiences are priceless, bad experiences are unacceptable when so far away from home. This place without doubt is an amazing choice. It will give you what you need with such ease. They make it look seamless but you know they care about your time here without making you feel obliged. I feel so lucky to have stayed here and I promise you won't be disappointed. Bullet points just in case you are worried as we were not sure on any of these before we got here : Very Clean, Lovely Food, Hot Water, Big Beds, Daily Maid Service, Fresh Towels, Laundry Service (for a fee) Walking Distance to town, Big Garden, Views to Sea, and a fabulous furry hotel Cat called Disco.
The house and the rooms are on a good condition. The staff is friendly and helpful. The terrace and the hammock invite to relax. The showers feature European standard shower valves, which is a pleasure if you are not used to the US valves.
We all had Lobster which was perfectly seasoned & cooked.served with fresh vegetables and rice just Devine. Service was fab we got a warm welcome and constant service throughout out time in the restaurant. Great choice of cocktails 🍹. A must when in carriacou.
It's an inn on a small island in the Caribbean so don't expect a 5 star hotel! The rooms are simply furnished and comfortable. The restaurant has a lovely setting and the food is great. The property is a longish walk/quick cab ride from beaches and other places. If you want pampered luxury this isn't the place for you if, however, you are after a relaxing place to hang out, with friendly staff and good food then you'll be in the right place!
