If you just need a quick stay before a flight this may work. The staff was nice but rooms are old and dated. If your on a tight budget this may work for you but not for a relaxing time or family hotel.

I stayed here with my wife and daughter as our flight was arriving in Crete at stupid o'clock in the morning and our main hotel for our stay would not have room ready until after 14:00.. This was all due the airline changing the flight times.. I opted for the Handakas due to its good reviews and its location being over the room from our primary hotel... The staff are lovely and seem like they cannot do enough to help you.. That was a great welcome to Crete and one we remembered thoughout our stay and to this day.. The room we had was a little knackered but we made the best of it seeing as it was only going to be for about 8 hours so we could get out heads down for a little while then get some breakfast and them decamp to our hotel across the road...

We have been so well served with a free extension of stay by Sophie that we cannot give a bad review. The room was average size with AC & balcony. They were a moisty smell in the room. We found the solution by cleaning the filthy AC filters. The people who clean the linens are surely smokers because the sheet had a strong cigarette smell (should be a easy solution). Beside that all was OK and close to your need. Just 5 min. Walks you can pick the bus #1 (next to Castro Hotel) to the airport (1.70€ from the machine)

Conveniently situated for a quiet stay

The hotel was quite OK, however our big complaint was the internet access. The description on your site says Stay connected Available in all rooms: Free Wi-Fi , Free wired high-speed Internet Unfortunately the was no wired connection in any room as far as we could determine (very little English spoken by any of the staff) and although we were the closest room to the router, the WiFi was flukey and seemed to cut out completely late at night. With 5 devices requiring internet access we found it extremely frustrating and often visited a nearby bar which had good free access just to stay in touch. No power point to charge any device - had to buy a multi socket adapter or disconnect TV power. Also the breakfast although adequate offered exactly the same fare every day of our 11 day stay and the family found this a bit boring. Their yoghurt and honey was delicious.

Dirty place

Horribly dirty room looked like it hadn't been cleaned for ages. Grapes in the sink, black hair in the shower cabin and only a drizzle of a shower (no way to wash hair). Breakfast was Ok and there was a nice garden but it doesn't really help if you have to sleep in a dirty room with broken bed linen, can't take proper shower and the bathroom itself is disgusting. It was cheap but we left in the morning to never come back because stay in such a place really spoils the experience. Wouldn't go back even if offered to stay for free.

Friendly staff and homely feeling

The downside is it's distance from Iraklio city. It takes a while with the bus but it goes directly to the airport and the beach is close by. Actually the hotel is located at the end of the western beachstrip from Iraklio. The staff was very friendly and the have computers that have internet free to borrow. It is family friendly with games and books to borrow. The owners don't speak english so it can be a language barrier but we could stay there several extra nights and the roomcharge was the same as the first night with the booking from Hotels.com. I strongly rekommend it if you like a cheaper and worthy option. To get there take bus 6 (that goes both from central Iraklio and the airport, I think) and press the stop button when you see Pythias cafe on the left. There will be a sign to the hotel to the left from the main road.

JUST LIKE HOME!

Felt like I was at home at Hotel Handakas! The staff are so nice and friendly even though some of them don't speak English. I was a single female traveling by myself, and I felt very safe. The breakfast wasn't anything to call home about but nice that it was there. It's close enough that you can walk to other places to eat and the beach is ten minutes away. I would recommend this to someone who has kids, or just needs a cheap place to stay.

Friendly hotel run by very nice Greek family. Basic condition but good value for money. Hotel is situated not far from the exit to highway, so if you plan to rent a car and make day trips, Handakas is good place to stay.

Hotel vicino al corso principale di Amoudara (chiamata dai ragazzi del posto Amoudramma), vanta di una bella piscina all’aperto ma la struttura in se è vecchiotta e in alcuni punti malandata. La figlia del proprietario è l’unica a saper parlare inglese e non è molto presente in hotel, la stanza piccola e maleodorante (di chiuso soprattutto). Siamo stati lì una settimana ma solo per dormire, trascorrevamo le giornate sulla spomaggia o visitando le zone limitrofe.

proximite de l aeroport pour repartir

Hotel tres peu cher , pour une nuit suffisant , accueil sympathique. Mais le coté vieillot de la chambre et de la salle debain explique le prix. La piscine n avait pas d eau......et le petit dejeuner du matin a 5 euros en supplement est certainement le moins bon que nous aillons eu en crete sur une semaine d itinerant.Par contre proximité de l aerroport pour repartir.Et pas loin a pied du centre d ammoudara.
