Cut little cabin complex, but really dated. Found out it was for sale after we were there. Reserved a cabin ahead of time, but when we arrived, had what sounded like squirrels in the ceiling (not the roof -- the ceiling). Were told this sometimes happens. Our 3 night stay started on a Sunday, so there were no maintenance staff available. We were given a few options & chose to stay in a different cabin. Generally, it was fine, except a towel bar was broken off the wall, the light fixture in bathroom had no globe covering the lightbulb, the bath window did not lock, several outlets did not work (fortunately we brought an extension cord), several light bulbs were out, and 2 of the 3 exterior door locks were so flimsy, you could lean on the doors to open them. Fortunately, we had a screwdriver to tighten them, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I would not stay there again.
Daven Haven is in Grand Lake, located just outside the West Entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. We stayed at there because we were attending a wedding, which Daven Haven catered. The cabins themselves are cute, updated, and nicely furnished. Ours slept four, but like a hotel there is little privacy - a queen size bed, and a pull out sofa sleeper share the same space. The main door opens into this space. But a fridge, sinks, coffee maker, cooking utensils and dishes/cups/silverware ensured we could cook our own food without a problem. The lake is located about .3 of a mile away, and it is a mile into town. The restaurant, known for its steaks, provides a fabulous meal and the dining area has beautiful viewing of the nearby mountains. If you are looking for a few days away, only a few miles from some of the best hiking Colorado has to offer, or a mile from fabulous boating, this would make a nice destination.
We had our family reunion at the end of July and chose Daven Haven as our venue. It was wonderful. The cabins are clean and neat, the staff was outstanding, and we were able to make ourselves fully at home. Within walking distance of both the lake and the downtown shops and restaurants. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Karen M
The cabin we stayed in had a nicely decorated kitchen/family room with a twin sofa bed and large clean kitchen. The kitchen was moderately supplied with dishes and utensils and linens. The bed was not comfortable and needs a new mattress. Bathroom towels were soft and fluffy. The outside property needs a clean up. Staff was competent and friendly.
Got bumped from another hotel due to overbooking, the other hotel was nice enough to look around for another place for us. They said and we read the review about how nice this place was. Well, when we got to Check- In we were told we were in the ASPEN cabin at the “other property”. Wildwood Cabins. This is a classic bait and switch screwing of a unknowing tourist. The place was very old and unremodeled. Not worth the price of $230.00 per night. No hangers in the closet, leaky faucet, curtains rotting away with holes and tears, cheapest mini blinds available some missing and lots of broken slats. Maybe 10 tv channels, no internet, outlets missing covers, smoke alarm missing (label on wall where it should have been) bare bulbs in the ceiling for lights, and a shower head that sprayed the ceiling more than the shower stall (I fixed it by using a soap wrapper as Teflon tape)etc. It was so bad we took pictures to prove how terrible the place really was. Our mistake should have driven back to Denver. Restaurant was good though.
Our cabin was clean and ready for us when we got there. We mostly used the kitchen for the fridge and sink, but it looked like it had everything you would need to cook a meal there. The bathroom was updated and clean. The location was great. We walked to the boardwalk (shops, restaurants, the park, and marina) several times with a 4 year old and it was close enough so there were never complaints. It is far enough away though that it was very quiet and peaceful in amongst the trees. There is also a restaurant on site so you wouldn't have to leave the property if you didn't want to. The only thing really would be that the beds could be updated, though I will admit to being a bit of a baby about those. Over all great place, and next time in Grand Lake we will stay there again.
Stayed here recently with my son....we were actually in one of the Wildwood cabins, not David Haven. Stayed in the Aspen cabin....really nice cabin, and incredibly convenient to the main drag of shops and restaurants....about a 30 second walk for morning coffee! Easy walk to the lake also. Warning: if you are planning on using the sofa sleeper in this cabin, call ahead and ask if the frame has been replaced! It was broken while we were there...not so good. Kitchen is very dated, but everything worked fine. Deck outside is fantastic. With a new sofa bed, this would rate five stars for me.
This place needs some serious help! Not surprised they are trying to sell. The staff is very unresponsive. The first night we arrived the cabin we had been placed in was like something out of a horror movie, no screens on the windows, the place smelt like gas which later on was found to be the stove which was not functioning properly (pilot light would not stay lit) among the two fire alarms that did not have batteries in them nor any fire extinguishers in the unit. We had to threaten them to move us into another cabin. Not recommened at all
We stayed at Wildwood Cabins which is owned by Daven Haven, but at a better location than on Marina Dr. These cabins (4 of them) are right at the end of Grand Ave. It's a block to the lake, a block to a coffee shop, and just a bit further to many great restaurants. My wife booked this via Groupon. If you want a rustic experience, this is a decent option. Our cabin was Big Pine, a 2 br setup with a fireplace, kitchen, small but updated bathroom, and a nice front porch to sit and watch the world go by. We didn't use the kitchen other than store things in the fridge. It worked fine, but had a peculiar ticking noise that you only noticed when you first walked in. It continued, you just got used to it. The lights in the cabin were fairly dim, but I wasn't terribly surprised by that I guess. I felt that the bed was past it's useful life and could have used a new mattress. We did have a flat panel TV in the main room, but the cable was out most of the time (it would come on in bursts of 2-3 min, then go out again). We asked about getting it fixed, and they did come to look at it, but no fix occurred. If you want to catch a game, find a restaurant/bar with a TV like we did. One thing I did find annoying was that the cabins had outdoor lights (like Xmas lights) around the porch. Those are nice if you are outside, but not so great if you are trying to go to sleep and there's no way to turn them off (or the neighbors, which are very close). There was wi-fi. Wasn't the strongest signal or much bandwidth, but it could handle several of us streaming most of the time (because the cable was out), Would I stay again? I could handle the old mattress for 1-2 nights, but likely not more. There is very little storage for bags, toiletries, etc, so after 2 days you're tripping on stuff. One last thing....the owners are looking to sell, so there may be new owners soon and a totally different experience.
We rented a 2 bedroom cabin, it was clean, nicely decorated, kitchen was well equipped. The cabins are close to town and which we chose to walk to, Spirit Lake was frozen so we walked across the lake. Great location!
