The Parkroyal Hotel in Penang holds a special place in my heart simply because my family has been staying there for the last 30+ years. I have many fond memories of this place.
That being said, my recent visit to the Parkroyal left me sorely disappointed.
Spa; I had emailed the Spa to book ahead of time what my mother and myself wanted however nobody got back to us. When I then followed this up with a phone call, the therapist couldn’t understand that I was calling from abroad even though I had stated at this very clearly in both English and in Malay. When we had our treatments It was great. Noor my therapist was very adept in the session. However, I wasn’t so impressed with the dead cockroach that greeted me in the bathroom.
Reception; we had booked two rooms-a premier room and a suite. For some reason I had to request that my payment for the suite be done when I checked in. Gowri wanted to do it after. She then billed me incorrectedly and had to do another transaction. When I was checking out, I came twice to clear out my charges and when I asked if there was anything else, Gowri said no. Two hours later when I’m out of Penang I get a WhatsApp message asking me if they could charge my credit card because they forgot to charge me the heritage tax. What’s the point of me coming in daily to clear out my charges if you’re going to then pull a stunt like this?
I’ll be back in Penang this April and I’m hoping the hotel would be more organized and efficient.
