I spent a few days at this quaint hotel, and I am very happy that I did. The service was excellent, the rooms were very comfortable (incredibly spacious) and the breakfast spread was great. The staff was very helpful - what more could one want? I absolutely loved the lift/elevator!!
Overall: The hotel was an average, with old decor but clean and a very friendly staff Location: Good location, close to Genoa Brignole station. Room: my room was clean and large for a sigle occupancy, but the minibar was not refilled with everything, everyday. Food: offers breakfast, but does not have a restaurant. You have to go out for dinner or order online (which was allowed gor me). Wifi: very good wifi connection. Staff: I had several interaction with people at the reception, and evry single time they were really nice. Very friendly and warm. A good stay!
We stayed here for 5 nights as part of our mini tour. It was the most quant lovely hotel we have stayed in and we loved it. It was 5 minutes from the railway station and very central for restaurants, shopping and places of interest. The staff were lovely and helpful. They obviously enjoyed working there. The lift was amazing and just so quaint! Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts , ham and cheese to list a few things! There was also a bar where you could have a drink. They also had gluten free products available for breakfast. The room was very spacious with lovely furniture in keeping with the age of the building. Shower was good and the towels were big and fluffy. There were good toiletries available in the bathroom. The room was very clean, infact one day we put the sign on the door the wrong way and when we came in that afternoon the room had not been done. We went out later for a walk and came back to find the room had been sorted. This was late afternoon when cleaning staff should have been away. The mark of a good hotel! There was good free wifi in the hotel. We really enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to anyone!
Large room in a an old world hotel. It could do with some updating, especially as they still have the older sockets from yesteryear!! Very helpful staff and decent breakfast. I love the little touches of the old lift.
This hotel was pre-booked as part of a cruise package and we were very disappointed. The room (No 205) was poorly decorated with a sort of rag-rolling finish over blistered plaster, the air-con did not work, the only light in the room was a blindingly powerful wall light coupled with two headlight type lights sunk into the headboard that served as reading lamps. As a hotel guest over a long period, I came across a 'first' in this room - an uncovered fuse-box just inside the room door at hand height! A good TV with over 100 channels did not have one single channel in English. Open the window at your peril if you are a light sleeper as the sound of the traffic was powerful down the canyon-like street outside. On the upside was a very good super king bed and very helpful staff who told us everything we needed top know about Genoa and the surrounding area. Take the short train journey to Portofino for a stunning fishing village and good Italian food.
This is a nice hotel in a good position, conveniently near Genova Brignole station, the football ground and a ten minute walk from the old town. A little old-fashioned but typically Italian with a good sized bedroom and large bathroom. Very helpful and kind staff who recommended good restaurants etc. Recommended for a few days in Genoa.
The style of the hotel is very old but it's good for those who are into that kind of classic style. The bathroom of our room was different from anything else I've ever seen and it was really spacious. When we arrived at the hotel the lights didn't go on. I called the front desk and they promptly sent someone to fix the lamp. Otherwise, the room was in good condition. I didn't interact with the staff much as my Italian speaking travel companion handled that, so I can't comment on language skills of the staff. From my limited interactions I can say that the receptionists have at least basic English skills. Locationwise, the hotel is quite close to many shops and restaurants. It was a bit hard to find but that's mostly because we haven't been to that part of the city before.
We arrived on September 17th for 5 long days and nights. It was warm when we arrived (and throughout our stay) and we were looking forward to the air conditioning in our room. It would come on at 1.30 pm we were told. We didn't understand. We just wanted our air conditioning on. The hotel kept insisting that it was on. I kept getting the same reply - you cannot turn it on lower than 20 degrees Celsius. Fine I would take 22. The air conditioning was just not turned on. Further the hotel and everything in it is OLD which is nice if you like that kind of thing, we don't. I noticed that the hotel is part of a chain and sent an email to the head office in London about our air conditioning hoping for some resolution to our problem. I need a cool room for health reasons. The staff at the front desk were insulted that I had written to their head office and didn't understand that I hadn't come to them first. It seems that the staff does not communicate with each other. (Because of this attitude I removed my first review of the hotel quite afraid of consequences.) They told me that they couldn't put on the air conditioning because of environmental laws. Why didn't they say this at the very beginning instead of giving me the run around and excuses? Later I did some research and discovered that other hotels do 'give in' to their guests requests for air conditioning. Conclusion if you expect a modern hotel with REAL WORKING air conditioning, a good breakfast and good working wifi, don't stay here. We never will again.
Hotel is very old (old furniture, old bathroom, issue with hot water). Limited choice for breakfast. Friendly staff though. Little far from center (port) but near from rail station. Liked the old elevator dated from the 20s.
Excellent hotel and staff ! Built a few centuries ago this hotel has retained all the charm and tradition whilst offering a warm and welcome stay. The solid oak panelled walls and ceilings are a refreshing change from modern preformed plastic and gloss! The 1920's original Otis lift is worth a visit on its own. Cast iron radiators with built in box to dry clothes on the landings and the original room service bells are charming. Air conditioned rooms and a hair dryer. The breakfast offering was four star to suit all tastes and the location for exploring the beautiful Genova could not be better! Help and advice to explore with a recommendation for an authentic Italian restaurant added extra value!! Our visit was on the back of an excellent Med Cruise, will definitely be visiting for a week and staying here. In the UK this hotel would be grade 1 listed and much revered!
