This charming B&B is the best kept secret in Galena! Van is an amazing host and a great cook. He serves a gourmet breakfast that is served promptly at 8:30 each morning. You will be so full you will not finish the meal nor eat the rest of the day! He was able to provide suggestions on restaurants and things to do in the area. Van makes the house feel as if it is just as much yours as his and is possibly the kindest man on the planet.
Stayed here Oct 6 , 2018. My wife and I were met at the door by Van. He is one of the nicest men my wife and I have had the pleasure to meet. He is the new owner in his 4th month as owner operator who lives on the 3rd floor. The first floor has a library, dining room and parlor all of which are a step into the past that are truly beautiful. the 4 rooms are upstairs and they are all so nice. We had a wonderful tour of all rooms before we checked out. The house was built in 1891 and is like a trip to a museum. Wonderful pieces of the past with all the needs of the present met. The breakfast is at 8:30 and van is a wonderful chef. Truly a great time at this place.
Wife and I visited this location with a couple of other couples. Room that we had was a little small, but it was both cozy and comfortable. The house itself was in good repair and kept clean. I enjoy old architecture, so it was especially fun to stay in an older house than a newer and somewhat sterile motel. Breakfast and company provided each morning, which was also a nice touch. Location is just across the river from downtown Galena, so were able to walk out the door and across the bridge to do some shopping and dining. Would recommend and likely to stay here again when we visit Galena for a weekend.
What a great stay. Mike was so helpful in giving us suggestions on what to see and do, places to eat, etc. Accommodations were wonderful and very comfortable. Beautiful home and Mikes knowledge of the area was very informative. Breakfast and refreshments at 5 were the perfect touch. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.
My wife and I had a wonderful escape to The Queen Anne Guest House in Galena. We highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast, wjich is only three hours from home. We left very relaxed. Owner & host, Mike Reese, made us feel very welcome, while also doubling as our morning chef - - for two amazingly delicious breakfasts. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him and visiting around the breakfast table. The room was well decorated, cozy, & clean; and the shower was piping hot! Bonus: there was a wide selection of books and DVDs to borrow from the downstairs library, as well as, free WiFi. Galena's downtown shopping district was well within walking distance. However it was cold & blustery while were there, so we drove... three minutes. It's that close! If you like B &Bs, you'll lobe the Queen Anne Guest House
What a great weekend away! The Queen Anne was perfect in every way. Beautiful house, cozy room, delicious breakfasts, and of course, Princess Anne the cat! We thoroughly enjoyed Mike - his koala slippers, stories, and sense of humor were truly the icing on the cake of our trip. (Buy his cookbook and ask him to "sign" it for you!) :) We can't wait to come back to this beautiful home and town. -- Julie and Alan, Munster, Indiana
We enjoyed our stay at the Queen Anne, booked the entire Inn so we could have girls' weekend. Everything was great but the owner would sit and each with us at meals so we didn't have our private planning time for each day.
We booked the B&B for the wine weekend with an additional 2 days attached and when we inquired about the special rates during the week, the owner Mike was very "put-out" that we would ask that and CANCELLED OUR RESERVATION. Told us that he had explained the rates to us once ! and would not explain them again! Don't both thinking the B&B will be amazing as the owners are old & crabby.
This was our first real Bed and Breakfast. It is a much different experience than a hotel and you have to be prepared for that. You are sharing a house with strangers, you are staying in a old historic home. Everyone eats Breakfast together, it was fun to get to know the other people staying there and get to hear about their day. We could exchange recommendations on what to do in town. The owner was nice to talk to and also very helpful with recommendations. They offered a social hour at 5:00 with snacks and drinks and coffee or tea was outside your door in the morning. You can come and go as you want. Their were cards, games, movies and books available to use. Each room has its own bathroom. The breakfast was delicious and served family style. We enjoyed the experience.
We have stayed at Queen Anne Guest House 4 times while in Galena on business. Owners, Mike and Anita been amazing every time. The rooms are filled with antiques which just adds to the charm of the B&B. This last time we stayed in the Sir William room-it is the smallest of the rooms. The bathroom doesn't have much space to hold your toiletries. Next time we will go back to staying in the Prince George-much more spacious. Breakfast is always really good and filling. Main street is just a short walk across the bridge.
