This isn't the first time I've stayed at this location. The staff was extremely friendly, answered our questions. The breakfast was very good, with a variety of hot and cold choices. The room amenities were nice, and the room and hotel overall was very clean. The only drawback was the shower curtain, which wasn't quite long enough to keep shower water in the tub. We used face towels to keep the floor dry, but on tile floors, this could be an accident waiting. But we worked around it and all is good!! My wife is extremely hard to please, and even she commented that we will have to stay here again!!
This hotel is under new management. It wasn't a great place to stay a month ago but now it's actually pleasant and on par with the better Marriott brand hotel's I've stayed at throughout the Midwest. Allison at the front desk was very helpful and efficient at check-in (that was the first indication that something was different from my previous stays). Breakfast, which was notably bad, was actually pretty good as far as Fairfield standards go. The new management and extra effort by the employees has paid off immediately. Keep up the good work!
I stayed here for one night on a business trip and this place meets all the necessary requirements of a decent hotel to crash the night in. Clean Room - Check. Morning Breakfast - Check. Exercise Room & Pool - Check. Toiletries - Check. Mini-fridge - Check! The only complaint I have is that the back of the hotel is within spitting distance from a Salvation Army donation store and you can sometimes hear the riff-raff if your room is on the back side. Overall this place gets 4 zzzz's out of 5.
I have stayed at Marriotts for more than 40 years and fully understand Bill Marriott's expectations of customer service, whether it be a Renaissance, JW, Courtyard, or a Fairfield. The Fort Wayne Fairfield on Lima road exemplifies the Marriott philosophy of acknowledging the guest & engaging the guests when appropriate. For the most part the front staff at Marriotts are very friendly but this Fort Wayne location led by Charita was exceptional!!! Everyone from maintenance to housekeeping have been outstanding.
This is a quiet, comfortable location that had a clean, quiet and well maintained room. All of the staff is extremely nice & friendly. The breakfast was a standard "hotel" breakfast with plenty of options. The really good part of this property is the variety of food options that are so close. Chipotle, Panda Express, BK are within walking distance. Across the street are more options. A really good Japanese place, Sapporo, is a short car ride or interesting walk across a major road. Skip the walk & drive. Overall a good property and I will be staying here again in a few weeks.
This was not our choice but the Courtyard by Marriott’s choice for us. We had reservations there but they gave our room to someone else about 4 hours after check in time. The front desk ladies were not friendly and seemed perturbed that we didn’t have a “letter” from the Courtyard saying they were paying for our room. Well, never having had a room cancelled, I didn’t realize we should have asked for one. After finally straightening this out, we loaded the luggage cart and went to our room. We unloaded the cart and turned down the bed only to discover HAIRS ALL OVER THE SHEETS AND THEY WERE ALL WRINKLED! They hadn’t been changed! We took the cart back downstairs, told the young ladies we weren’t sleeping in a bed with someone’s hair in it, and asked for at least clean sheets! They chose to change us to a different room. Fortunately, the room was just two doors down. By the time we schlepped our luggage down to that room (which was an accessible room but had one of the heaviest doors I have ever had in a hotel), it was after 10pm and we were exhausted. And after all of the upset of having our reservation cancelled, having to drive across town to this hotel, etc, I had a lot of trouble sleeping and wound up with only about 4 ½ hours of sleep. We had hoped to use the pool in the morning but it was a tiny pool, not much larger than a large hot tub. On top of that, unlike the Courtyard, there were a lot of young middle school kids at the hotel for sporting events but they were quite well behaved. We just didn’t think the pool was big enough for us as well. We might stay here again but Marriott has left a “bad taste” in our mouth after this weekend!
It drives me CRAZY when the HVAC units are not configured to allow the fan to stay in the "ON" position. It makes white noise which allows me to sleep better. Further, when the unit kicks on it makes so much noise that it wakes me up.
When I arrived at the hotel last night I was told that they forgot to assign me a room therefore there wasn't a room available for me as the hotel was oversold. Front Desk agent was friendly and sincerely apologetic however told me my only option was to stay at the Best Western nearby which they did comp. Needless to say the Best Western although a "Best Western Plus" was still a no frills establishment with a cold, low water pressure shower, blemished walls, and a poor breakfast. Not impressed.
We often stay in a Fairfield Inn when we travel (business and pleasure). This one was my least favorite so far. We're not looking for frills, but a comfortable place to stay is expected. I'll list the problems: 1. Not enough towels even when we reserved for 2 adults and 2 kids. We had 3 towels. 2. Two conditioners but NO shampoo. We bring our own, but sometimes towards the end of a trip we're running low. This was one of those times. 3. Two facial soaps, no bath soap. Same as before...we were running low by this point. Not the end of the world, but annoying. 4. Fan on air conditioner/heater will not run, not even room temp air. Apparently in winter it will not kick on if the temp is below 60. I get that, but the thermostat is ON the unit beside the window and protected by the curtain. So the temperature right beside the window is considerably cooler than the rest of the room. And what hotel room doesn't get stuffy with 2 kids?! We just wanted a fan for a bit. 5. The exhaust in the bathroom doesn't work, and it's just a bare bulb. (I'll include a pic) 6. The bathroom door automatically locks whenever it's closed. So if you close it behind you, you won't be going back in quickly. And it's not an option to unlock it. Only opens from the inside. 7. Breakfast attendant was friendly, but I only saw her in passing twice in an hour. 8. Last but not least, we had the cleaning service knock on our door TWICE while we were getting ready. Once around 9:15am, and again around 10:15am. Our check out is at 12:00pm. They were "just checking" to see if we were "still here." A disappointing visit on this one. :( On a positive note, the room seemed clean.
I travel the entire country and some international staying at Marriott properties the majority of my 75+ nights a year on the road. This Fairfield is unfortunately a touch below the normal property. Staff is fine but the rooms need work. A little 'Spartan' as my Father would put it.
