Renting a car in Fort Wayne: Your questions answered

If you’re thinking about renting a car then you may have a few things you want to clear up before you start booking. Here, we answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

How old do I have to be to rent a car in Fort Wayne?

You need to be at least 21 years old to rent a car. Most companies will ask for an additional young person’s surcharge if you are between 21 and 25 years old.

Can I add an additional driver to my rental?

Yes. For an additional fee you can add an extra driver to your rental and share the driving. The other driver must be in possession of a full driving license and be present at the rental car offices when you collect the car. You can either add other drivers to the policy when making your online booking, or at the time of collection.

What documents do I need to show when collecting my rental car?

You will need to show a valid driver’s license or, if the license is not in English, an International Driver’s Permit. In addition you will need to present another form of identification, preferably a credit card. You will usually need a credit card for paying a deposit.

Can I rent extras?

Yes. All car rental companies offer infant and child seats, and most offer extras such as GPS. It is best to book these in advance, as companies cannot guarantee availability, especially during busy periods.

Discover Fort Wayne: Downtown and road trips

Fort Wayne exudes the Midwest character: ball games, lively street fairs, culture, and hearty cuisine await those who visit. Below, we take a look at some of the highlights the city has to offer.

Downtown Fort Wayne

Downtown is the beating heart of Fort Wayne, with lots to do. Catch a game at the Parkview Field Ballpark, visit National Historic Landmarks such as the Allen County Courthouse, or visit the African/African-American Historical Society Museum. There are breweries to tour, summer concerts to enjoy, and a relaxed Midwest vibe. Don’t miss the beautiful Embassy Theater, which was built in 1928.

Fort Wayne’s three rivers, the St. Marys, the St. Joseph, and the Maumee, weave through the middle of the city, offering plenty of ways to soak up some very pretty scenery. Try kayaking or canoeing, or join a river boat cruise. Landlubbers can walk or cycle any one of the paths, including the Rivergreenway, a 25 mile long riverside path.

Lake Michigan

Take an all-American road trip through the Midwest to one of the country’s most famous natural landmarks, the vast Lake Michigan. The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is just a two-hour drive away, and in another hour you could be among the bright lights of Chicago. Both of these destinations make for excellent day or weekend trips from Fort Wayne.
