Once again we were very pleased with Pelican Beach. I wish our unit had been better taken care of, but that isn't their issue. One thing I was not at all happy about this time is them letting people set up chairs in front of the rentals. I pay good money to rent chairs and an umbrella. I reserve ahead of time so I am in the front row with a great view of the water. I shouldn't have to look thru all the people bring their own chairs and sitting right in front of me. This didn't used to be allowed but now apparently they don't speak up about it. That policy needs to change.
We had a group of 32 ages from 74-1year checked in reservation paid for 3 bedrooms was given a two bedrooms. After debatelng the issue I was told someone canceled the reservation and was given three bedrooms the next day…but was not paid the difference. Friday night security came to our door three times banging and waking up a family member that worked third shift and traveled from Atlanta Georgia . We was harassed by security for being black.every day it something different. Saturday we did family beach pictures and and dinner as we returned to our room and some was winding down and in bed ... again the bang on the door with a evection notice to Vacate the property in a hour with all the polices can you imagine how the children felt. after them being rude they half hearted apologized .and went to the next black party that was celebrating a wedding . Sunday we was all ready to leave but we made the best of the day with disappointment ... 5 AM most everyone heading back to Atlanta.......not black friendly . Some of the condos are beautiful some are outdated. NEVER AGAIN........ worst experience for our families
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pelican Beach resort. Check-in was smooth and seamless. The property was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our unit........WOW! We were on the 20th floor with breathtaking views. The decor in this unit is just how I liked it. Very modern yet beach-y.The cafe and the little tiki-hut on the resort came right on time for beach snacks/food. I don't know if people realize this or not, but YOU are the one who chooses your unit. The units have different owners, and all of the owners have different "tastes". Pelican is just the managers of the property. Take the time out to look at the pictures of the units and see if you can find reviews for your particular one, because some units are cheaper than others and its usually because they haven't been upgraded/remodeled and the decor can be very drab. If you don't care about decor, then you're good. You get what you pay for. As for me, my money was well spent at this property and for my unit. I would come again.
I will never stay at the Pelican again in my life the security guards harassed our family and tried to evict us because they say we were too loud. We didn’t know it was quiet time after 10 pm on the weekend!!
Read the reviews before you pay your money!! We only get 1 vacation a year, and this one was terrible. The condo was nice, but that’s all. It’s the beach area that’s terrible, it’s roped off, tiny, you are forced to rent chairs for the week to secure a seat on the beach, then you might not even be able to see the beach. There’s no place to play family beach games, because the beach chair company hogs up the entire beach area. I was told from the front desk that the HOA, voted for this beach company. I witnessed numerous people at the front desk on a daily basis expressing concerns r/t the beach chair company engulfing the entire beach. we went to relax and enjoy the beach, the only thing enjoyable was being with my family, and being off work. Next time we’ll go back to Myrtle Beach. READ REVIEWS BEFORE YOU PAY YOUR MONEY!
We had an absolute blast and the Condo was off the hook! The staff was very accommodating and very gracious. Can not wait to go back next year and enjoy our time away from home. My wife and I enjoyed it so very much.
For the owners of the units!! Pelican property management is screwing you over. We had 12 different family’s staying at this resort and none of us will ever come back. Some of the units weren’t available through pelican so we had to reach out through other travel company’s to rent. They would not even give us a 5.00 coupon to the water park. We couldn’t charge to rooms, had to turn bags to corn hole in at 7, quiet time at 10, rule after rule. The beach was crowded, they try to make you rent chairs from them for 500 a week, they leave you a small place for personal chairs in the very back of the beach. Not to mention my unit was really old and outdated.
We stayed at The Pelican this year for our summer vacation. I must admit I was a bit worried about the beach access, umbrella service, etc. It’s honestly not that bad... I believe the people complaining about it are just being whiny & high maintenance. You can sit up front and sun bathe if you want without an umbrella. We were there for a week including the busy July 3rd & 4th. We set up 2 rows after the last umbrella service set ups & we could still see the ocean. After the 4th we were able to set up 1 row behind the umbrella service & could still see the beach. We set up in between the umbrellas vs. Right behind them. If you don’t like children running around, loud music, and people having fun- don’t come here or any other family friendly resort. We prefer the fun family resorts with music, different people from all over the East Coast. If you travel during the holiday weeks it’s just expected and we travel every 4th because we love the fun atmosphere. We were in unit 1709 on the 17th floor with a beautiful ocean view, fully equipped kitchen, 2 full baths, 1 king room, and bunk beds in the hallways with built in TV’s which the kids loved! The unit furniture was very updated. The pillows were horrible and hard as a rock so next time I’ll be bringing my own. No daily cleaning, linen or towel exchanges, etc. We paid a small fee mid week to get new towels & sheets for a bed because our toddler had an accident. We were going to go wash our towels, but we preferred to pay the fee which is $25. We LOVED the beach access with no more than 20 feet to your beach set up & a tiki hut right on the deck before you get to the beach access. The resort itself could use some renovations. I never have understood why a place like this doesn’t renovate during the slow season. Our room back porch curtain needs deep cleaning or replacing because it has huge stains on it. The shower curtain was moldy with other stains and needs replacing. The elevators are stinky with NO AC or air ventilation. The trip to and from the 17th floor was scary sometimes. One time we were in the elevator with a lot of people and there were several stops, I literally felt like couldn’t breathe and was about to start panicking. The swimming pool has zero umbrellas & is actually way too small for this size resort. The indoor pool is not actually an indoor pool, it’s the 2nd outdoor pool that runs inside through an old plastic curtain & therefore is called the indoor pool. This is still dangerous during storms so it cannot be used like an indoor pool could. Another Con was that there are no side walks for jogging, walking to and from your cars, etc. As a parent and jogger this sucked because you were always walking in the parking lot behind cars trying to avoid getting hit from behind or worse your child get hit by a car; the parking lots are always busy! 1 Washer and dryers on our floor were very very old! With the amount of money this place makes I just don’t understand why they don’t renovate and why they cannot afford a new washer and dryer? Overall it was a great stay! We loved the beach access and the view! Book early and choose your room! Take your own pillows and favorite blanket. Take your own trash bags, coffee, filters, etc. Staff were all very polite. At check-in we did have a new employee assist us which didn’t allow it to go as smooth as I heard the other 2 check-ins go. She seemed Asian and there was a small language barrier.
Pros: Room 1614 big Great view of the beach Two pools Fully stocked kitchen Two full bathrooms Complimentary parking Beds comfortable Washer and dryer in room Quiet After 5pm, the beach is practically empty even on a busy weekend like 4th of July. Cons: Elevators hot- no Ventilation or AC Must wear bracelets Before 5pm, the beach is crowded with the rental companies lounge chairs and umbrellas, but not as bad as some reviews say it is. First, I was worried about staying here after all the reviews, but I’m glad I did. Check In was a breeze. They had our room ready and all of our paperwork in an envelope. They placed our arm bands, gave us parking pass and we were on our way. They do have a spot where you can park and unload your luggage. You can use their luggage carts. Just remember to be courteous and return them in a timely manner. We were in room 1614. It was a two bedroom, two full baths. The master bedroom overlooks the ocean and has a king size bed. The second bedroom has two twins. The living room also has a sofa that can turn into a queen size bed. We had no problems sleeping soundly on the beds. The bathrooms were clean. Toiletries included bar soap, shampoo and lotion. The kitchen: fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils. You do have to bring coffee maker filters and dish soap. They even had a blender. The balcony was big. It had a great view of the ocean. You can partially see your neighbors balcony, but you still get enough privacy The pool: a decent size. Not overrun as I would have expected on Fourth of July day and weekend. They have one indoor and one outdoor one. The indoor seemed to always be empty. The gym: typical hotel gym. Treadmills, elliptical and weights available. Parking was easy and always available. Extras/tips: - there’s a big grocery store right across the street - Merlin’s pizza delivers. Don’t use grubhub. Order directly.
We checked in July 2-6 for our family vacation. Pool is way too small for this big condo building!! So many umbrellas on the beach you could barely walk to the beach or find your umbrella. The Sheriff Dept. was at the condo everyday with a domestic problem, drunk adults fighting etc. We have never vacationed at a place where the Police or Sheriffs Dept. visits the property everyday hauling people off. We could not believe it. The front desk tried to cover it up but it was hard because the Sheriff Depts. cars were at the front doorway. We did enjoy the Cafe on the property. Service was excellent and food was good. The weather was perfect. I really wanted to say better comments about the property but they other guests were out of control. Not a place for small children to see all this drama . It is a shame adults can't take a vacation without getting locked up!
