We stayed here for our daughter’s wedding and reception, the facility was outstanding but the room we reserved was a letdown. We reserved this room because I am handicapped and it was listed with a walk in shower. I am sorry, but the shower in the master bathroom is 12 inches off the floor and is not a walk in shower. The guest bathroom shower was a little better but it was 6 inches off the floor. My wife had to help me each time I took a shower to get in and out of. Spend a week here in July. We were greeted with bed sheets that had a haircut performed on them, so 1st vacation chore was to wash bedding. Second was to toss used wash rags and then change air filter bc it seemes dusty upon turning on ac. The shower was dirty, curtains had to be a few years old due to the black mold all over them and the towels were smelling like cheap perfume. So hence another load of laundry. After that we experienced the surprise of a rock hard bed, I really don’t think you can even purchase beds this cheap. It was like lying on a backboard! So we slept like crap had a tub that did not drain and a initial dirty room. We enjoyed the beach and made the most of our vacation and did enjoy the view from balcony. Coffee in the mornings was always met w neighboring rooms smoking pot on the balcony so that is something my kids will remember. Not the greatest accommodation s and we will not return. We have no issues with dated rooms but it should be clean, and have a comfortable bed. This place was neither. Also 1 elevator was broken our entire stay. 6 floors and 1 elevator sucks. Loved the beach and sand and AJ the beach chair guy gave us good recommendations for dinner.

The unit we stayed at was updated and had beautiful furniture! Very clean and decorated throughout with Beach theme! Perfect vacation week! Heated Pool, on site laundry, sauna, tennis court, Breathtaking views if the beach!! Cannot wait to go again and bring guests!

There was a mandatory evacuation issued over the news due to Hurricane Michael. We missed out on 3 days of our vacation and the manager explained to us that even if the building was not standing and the facilities were not available due to damage we still could not be refunded a dime! We had not bought insurance which was a mistake on our part. I have never had a place tell me that and scold me for not purchasing the insurance. Rude and unacceptable phone conversation. We did get to go down for the end of our trip and stay a few days. UNIT 317 - The room was not kept up. Stains all over the couch and loveseat. Stains on the bedspread. Holes in the bathroom wall and sheetrock coming off. The "SPA" is for "MEN ONLY" --- really??? Who does that? Well they did have co-ed hours for maybe 2 hours? Seems sexist to me? Since there are no washing machines in room but they offer a coin operated machine on each floor - one would think they would supply clean towels each day but nope. We go to the beach every year and I am not hard to please - but this experience left me feeling angry. I told the manager we would not be coming back and instead of apologizing she said "Well that's your choice"

Wonderful location right on the beach. View from our balcony was lovely. Pool was nice when you tired of the surf. Wi-fi everywhere, even the beach. Security monitored quietly all day. Very near convenient store and easy to find right on the main street. Very close to restaurants and Alvins for bargain souvenirs.

Plenty of BED BUGS!! BEWARE!! Very old, worn out and ripping off furniture. It was a dream vacation ruined by bed bug bites for us. I had around 15-20 bites and my wife had almost 30-35 bed bug bites. we stayed in unit #530. The night security was informed the same time we noticed bed bugs crawling on the mattresses, but no action was taken. We were forced to spend the night in the infested bed one more night. Sleepless night spent sitting up on couch. The management refunded our money back. But I think it is my responsibility to spark an awareness, because when I checked reviews before booking, I did not see any warning on bed bugs. I've got photos and videos of bed bugs crawling in the room. We stayed there from Aug 2- Aug 4, 2018. This unit needs a complete make over with new furniture and pest treatment. Can't imagine how one can offer this terrible condition amenities to guests. we felt like we were somewhere in a 3rd world country😢.

We have stayed at the El Matador off and on for several years and are usually very happy. While the area is still nice, I would definitely not recommend Unit 221. There are so many little things that make it unpleasant but the worst is that the king size bed which is a six inch mattress on top of a box. NOT box springs, but simply a box. You might as well sleep on the floor. It was a very uncomfortable stay and certainly not worth the price when other, much nicer units are available. Also, the toilet in the master bathroom wouldn't flush unless you took off the tank lid and pushed down the plunger each time it was used. Again, not great for the price paid. This is an older community but typically a very nice place to stay. Just chose a different unit.

Unit 138 very dated. Pool was large and nice for families 2 good size pull out sofas. Had to pull tons of hair from shower drain to be able to stand with water in bottom of tub. They sprayed for bugs while we were here. Outlets won’t hold chargers without them falling out. Black mold on ceiling of shower and near toilet in master. Shower leaks in master. Lots of dishes from the 70’s not necessarily a bag thing. Can opener from 80’s is broken.

El Matador facility is in a great location, end of the public road on Okaloosa Island with ample beachfront. Beautiful views. Pool and common property mostly in good condition, Good view of beach/ocean/pool from the balcony. Unit 451 had updated the appliances, but the furniture & showers were not in great shape. Furniture was old and worn. Closet door in master would not shut, tub enclosures were frankly just worn out. Unit was clean. Vent-a-hood over range did not work at all. Doubtful would stay in this unit again, needs to be updated. Pictures online do not give a fair representation of the actual condition of the furniture, must have been taken years ago.

When we arrived gate security and check in staff were very nice. This establishment appeared to be older but well maintained. Our room was clean and ready for us. We enjoyed that the kitchen was stocked with silverware and appliances, and that the laundry area was just down the hall from the room, and clean. We were on the 5th floor of building 3 and our view was spectacular. We loved getting up early to have coffee and watch grounds maintenance prepare for the day. The grounds, beach, and pool were very well maintained. We also enjoyed staying in the last establishment on the beach. We enjoyed having the opportunity to walk down the beach and see the sunset in solitude. There did seem to be military aircraft flying over multiple times per day. I don't know who enjoyed watching them more, the adults or the kids. the beach was clean, the water was clear, and we were close to dining and activities. It is only a 10-30 minute drive to food and fun, depending on where you go. All of this at a reasonable rate. My family and I rate this place 10/10.
