This hotel and its owner are probably on its last days. The hotel is some way out of Florence on a bus route frequented in the evening by male refugee workers who work with the many "hawkers" and street sellers. This might be of concern to single female / dual female guests who have no car and wish to use the bus service to visit Florence. The hotel is used by local Italian families for parties and weddings at the weekends , Thursday through to Sunday. So it can be pot luck if you get sleep after a hard days Florence walking. Further the breakfasts are a narrow selection of cold meats and fruit/ cereal . The staff with the exception of the owner are friendly and pleased to see you, the grounds are in need of some real attention and the building requires a major overhaul. The pool is used by many locals as a "day trip" to cool off in the Tuscan heat , it is clean and well looked after. The views over the city of Florence are spectacular.
I went to dinner with my family in occasion of my birthday. I like so much places old style, and Villa Le Rondini I think is perfect. In opposition to all fashion hotels where most of people loves to go,is a place for people that have a high passion for the tuscan story. The restaurant was quiet and has an amazing landscape, the chef is one of the best I knew!!! I suggest to all people that in italy we call " Amante del bel vivere " !!
We stayed 3 nights in Le Rondini. We were... let's say surprised. We don't think it deserve a 4 stars label. Although we were helped ok to good (depending with whom...) and it was really clean the whole house is shabby and would need some serious work. The good thing about it is that it gives a bit of style and old fashion style. You have the feeling to go back in on other time. Read carefully other reviews and you'll find out, the view is amazing, situation regarding the city is ok, it has it's charm but had much better days. It is very old and haven't been redone in years. Peeling paint, dirty windows, worn sofas, and what should we say about the manager? She is bitter and not interested in pleasing her customers any more. The rest of the staff is very smiling and nice. Specially in the restaurant. Food was ok but to expensive for what it is. Breakfast a bit minimalist (although a buffet). Our room was at the edge of the house, very quite and nice light. It was not big but had armchairs and good beds (and clean!). Wifi works if you are on the right network... Ask if it doesn't work, they will give you an other one... There is a hairdryer but very old and not really efficient. No curtain around the bathtub so hard not to overflow the whole bathroom. Shower ok. The park around the house and the swimming pool looked good. Over all we had a good and interesting stay but we wonder how it will go in the future...
Lived at Villa Le Rondini for two days. Pleased with everything. What really sticks out is the location and view over the landscape and Florens. Stunning. If you like to go for a morning run there is some great small tracks on the area. Also: Great room, nice personal, good breakfest, good restaurant (if you rather take the night at the hotel...). It´s also just a 5 minutes walk to an bus stop that will take u direcetley to the heart of central Florens.
Villa le rondini is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. The setting is wonderful, amongst olive groves, cypress trees, tuscan hills, vineyards and the view over Florence is incredible, especially at sunset. It is so easy to get to: just a 20-30 min drive from the airport (about 25-30 euros) or easily accessible by bus. You can get the number 25 bus from La Pira just a road off the side of Piazza di San Marco. This bus runs until almost 1am so it is perfect for going out for dinner and drinks every night, especially since the hotel restaurant is just a little too pricey (well for us anyway, but this is my ONLY criticism!) The Piazza is in the centre of Florence so to get there from the hotel you walk 5 mins through the olive trees to get to a road, catch the no 25 and in 15 minutes you are in the city. Both buses going each way run every 20 minutes (but the staff clearly explain all of this to you when you get there). We couldn’t believe how easy it was to get around and so brilliant having all the excitement of the city nearby and then retreating to the hills to relax. Truly a perfect location if you want a bit of both. The hotel itself is completely charming, lovely old villa with terracotta roof and shutters. The furniture is antique and gives the place a wonderful tuscan feel - i.e. do not stay here if you are one of those people who complain about not having everything ‘up-to’date’, shiny and new. I read a few scathing reviews before we came here saying it was old, dirty, run-down, this is NOT the case at all. It is authentic, but spotlessly clean (we stayed in room 11). The air con was perfect, our room was lovely and cool and the mosquito window covers meant we could have fresh air coming in every morning. The restaurant serves really lovely pasta dishes, but that’s about the only course we could afford! If you don’t tend to have a budget when you travel you may agree with us that 9 euros for a starter is quite steep! However, this would not stop us visiting this hotel again, as Florence is so easy to get to that we went out for dinner every night but one, and had much more fun that way. The breakfast could have had a little more variety but it was perfectly nice - croissants, fresh fruit, rolls and baked bread, prosciutto, cheese and spreads, fresh coffee, yoghurts and cereals. The pool area is heavenly - large, clean pool with the sunbeds in a gorgeous garden of olive trees so you can shade under them if you need (we went on 13th August for a week, 30ish degrees every day). The pool bar staff are so friendly and nice, cold beers, soft drinks, beautiful paninis etc are served there until the pool closes at 7pm. You do have to wear a swimming cap in the pool which they provide for you, but it really wasn’t that much of a bother. It’s just a little fabric cap and there is a shower next to the pool if you do want to wet your hair to cool down. If you sit on the edge of the pool you can see the great view of Florence from here too. Giant butterflies everywhere and lots of lizards! The staff are faultless. They are so friendly, helpful, always there when you need them and willing to go the extra mile to help you out - we got so relaxed at this wonderful hotel that we missed our flight (oops) and the staff were rushing around to help us sort it out, they booked a taxi for us immediately, helped us to book a new flight on their computer, printed off our boarding passes and checked us out as quickly as possible. I have not received better service anywhere else. In short, if you are a traveller who likes relaxing, some history, the excitement of the city, beautiful tuscan countryside and an authentic italian experience, DO NOT hesitate to book Villa Le Rondini. We didn’t want to leave and would love to come back soon!
We went with your TA recommendations ( taking some with a pinch of salt ) and booked here for 9 nights as a family - we were really impressed. Thank you all you reviewers for accurate commentary. We loved the 'shabby chic', yes somewhat tired here and there feel to the hotel and the 'villa', but it's gloriously relaxed and with an informal atmosphere and excellent food. Giuseppe the Head Chef is a real character and you must talk to him! There is real 'personality' with this hotel- a lot of guests may expect the flash 4 star all singing and dancing corporate feel - this is not the right place for you. It is really quiet here - we often saw wild Deer, Brown Hares, Pheasant, Little Owls in the grounds and understand their are wild boar too in the 30 acres of Olive groves. To be fair, it is probably 3 star, not 4 by modern standards. Good breakfasts, clean and tidy rooms, great swimming pool area, incredible views, quiet and noise free location. The bus service into Florence is really easy too. We will be going back and have already recommended it to friends.
Our family of 4 went to the villa for the day and we really enjoyed the pool and the friendly people. It was like swimming at home with family. The villa serves great food and its just 18 euros a day to use the facility including towels, changing rooms etc and lovely loungers set in a tree strewn lawn (so shade if you want it). Take bus 25 from San Marco and get off at stop bologna 21 and walk back to the entrance. Its a long walk up to the villa but worth the effort.
Yes, the view is stunning. Absolutely breath-taking. But when you come inside and spend a night or two in the rooms, the magic of the view loses some luster. We were in a large group, and most of us had something wrong with our rooms. My room had drapes that were held on by string, a shower drain that didn't drain properly and flooded the room (the barrier on the shower floor was only about two inches, so the water ran over quickly), no shelves in the bathroom, dusty furniture in the room, and a lingering smell of cigarette smoke. On one of the days we stayed, there was no service at all - we didn't need new sheets or towels, but would have at least liked to have the tiny garbage bucket emptied. One member of our group had no air conditioning for several days (temperature was in the 90s). The setting for the restaurant was gorgeous, overlooking Florence. However, the food was average, with very high prices. The tables had linens and several sets of silverware, but one of my forks had stuck-on food. One evening when we came back and went to the front desk to get our room keys, we were greeted by a viciously barking dog that had been tied up behind the desk. It took a while for anyone to show up at the desk to quiet the dog and give us our room keys. The hotel does a good business in events, such as weddings. But they seem to value their event guests above the ones staying at the hotel. During a wedding, we sat on a neighboring lawn that was separated by a hedge from the wedding site. The wedding planner told us to move because guests might want to take pictures on that lawn. The pool was clearly the best maintained part of the hotel, with its own bar. But the pool hours were limited, so you have to enjoy it at very specific times. This could be a fantastic hotel, if the owners put more thought and resources into rooms and other areas of the hotel, and realized that while stunning views are great, that isn't enough to keep guests coming back. It very much needs care and upgrades. For instance, wi-fi was available in the lobby, but not in rooms unless your room was near the lobby.
This is a great option to just use the pool for the day. The other reviews about the view are all right on - it's the best view of Florence we have had except for Piazzale Michangelo. The cost to use the pool is 18 euro per person plus 2 euro each for a towel. There is a snack bar with alcohol and typical Tuscan food. What we had was good. Two plates plus one drink was 29 euro. Nice bathrooms at the pool. Pool is not heated but with the hot summer sun it's not needed. There are plenty of chairs, grass and shade. The poolside locations aren't so plentiful but there are is a decent supply of furniture convenient to the pool. We didn't take the bus this time (from San Marco Piazza, number 25) but will do so next time. Taxi was 55 euro round trip from the center of Florence. The bus is about 5 euro for two, round trip. The bus stops that drop you off and pick you up are different. It may be hard to understand but the walk each way to and from the bus stops is downhill. Returning soon.
From the moment we arrived and greete by Francesca we were made to feel at home. A little dissapointed at the size of the room, but everything spic and span. The evening meal was delicious and the view of Florence laid out in front of you is stunning. Will definitely return!
