The location is ideal for Winterthur (it's just over the border into Pennsylvania)--and is very convenient for the Brandywine River Museum of Art and Longwood Gardens as well. It is not even that far from Valley Forge and several other attractions. The inn is exceptionally clean, in good repair, and charming. The breakfast is wonderful, and the evening tea is a welcome break. The innkeepers are very knowledgable about the area and helpful. There are nice touches throughout. We are returning next month for another stay.
My wife and I stayed three nights in this charming inn while visiting all the attractions in the area. It was the PERFECT location to visit Longwood Gardens, Brandywine River Museum, and Winterthur. Sure, the place is a little dated as other reviewers state, but aren’t B and B’s kind of supposed to be? We had a spacious room (especially welcome after being in a shoebox in Center City Philly) which was very quiet and had great heat and AC. Most importantly, the staff were all welcoming and hospitable. Our breakfasts each day were way more than we ever have at home and were delicious. I found the price to be entirely reasonable; ignore all the whiny complaints and stay in this great inn in the perfect location. Ask where to take a scenic drive with covered bridges - you will not be disappointed!
We love staying at B&B's but this one was very disappointing. The entire Inn was dated and needed renovation. It was hardly worth $200 a night. The owner and staff were very friendly and the breakfast was average.
My friend and I had the pleasure of staying at the Fairville Inn recently. Our plans included Winterthur and Longwood Gardens. The room was tastefully decorated and the beds were comfortable. The innkeepers had restaurants to recommend, as well as sample menus to view. The breakfasts were delicious and the hosts charming. I strongly recommend this inn, when visiting the area.
My friend and I spent 5 glorious days recently at the wonderful Fairville Inn and it quite exceeded our expectations. Our rooms were lovely and quaint and beautifully cleaned each day (I even found my p.j.'s folded one day!) Rick and Laura are are lovely people as is everyone on their staff. They were most welcoming and informative, making sure we had all the info we needed concerning points-of-interest, restaurants, what to see and what to do. Rick cooks up the most delicious and diverse breakfasts, and though we promised ourselves we would not rush home from wherever we were to attend the afternoon teas on a regular basis, we soon found it impossible to keep that promise. The teas were charming, charming, charming...cheeses, and fruits, and pastries and every kind of hot and cold tea imaginable. If we return to this area, there is no question as to where we will automatically stay. Highly. highly recommended! Judy Rosenblatt & Armida Cook Manhattan, NY
This really is a gem which and it was recommended by a friend. Spotlessly clean, friendly helpful staff and a great breakfast - you really cannot ask for more I would certainly recommend it. It is close to attractions such as Longwood Gardens and the Hagley Museum.
This was my second stay at the Fairville Inn; last was 5 years ago with a friend in a Carriage House Suite; this time solo in room 4 of the main inn. I'm happy to say the experience remains as it was before: a relaxing, quiet interlude in historic, lovely indoor and outdoor surroundings. My pretty room lacked nothing in amenities, charm and cleanliness. Unlike one reviewer, I found the bed extremely comfortable. Check in was smooth and helpful. I used their excellent restaurant guide to choose dinner locations and they immediately made reservations and helped with directions. Breakfasts were delicious with much more variety and hot options than even many high quality B&B inns provide. Afternoon tea with savory and sweet options in abundance and morning newspapers were other nice touches. The inn's decor is traditional but not outdated; it is appropriate to the style of the home - elegant, yet warm. As other reviewers have noted, Rick and Laura (and their staff) are very helpful with deep knowledge of the area and its many wonderful attractions. If you are looking for a modern boutique hotel, Fairville Inn is not for you, but if you want classy, traditional lodging with caring, knowledgeable hosts/staff and good food, this is it.
Stayed in main house upstairs and I was in shock how run down and disguisting the bathroom was. This place is a scam and should not be on or even close to select registry. When you see it online it looks decent but in person you will be shocked. It is obvious the owners do not want to invest any money. The spread and draperies are circa 1980 and look like they need cleaning. It appears from other reviews the owner becomes very defensive instead of addressing issues. The breakfast is not fresh and you can hear the microwave warming it up for you. For this $, go elsewhere!!!!
We spent 3 nights at the Fairville Inn with eight other couples from our Garden Club. The Inn had pleasant and comfortable rooms that easily accommodated our group of 18. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast daily with delicious Scrambled Eggs as well as tempting other daily choices. The location of the Inn was perfect for our party, only 3 miles southeast of Longwood Gardens and 3.4 miles northwest of Winterthur. We spent two wonderful days touring both incredible treasures after 5-7 minute drives. Our group also enjoyed three excellent dinners at Buckley’s Tavern and Portobello’s of Kennett Square, both very short drives from the Inn. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return in the near future.
We enjoyed two nights at the Fairville Inn and would highly recommend it! The innkeepers, Rick and Laura, are a wealth of information about the area and the breakfasts are delicious, served on white tablecloths with fresh flowers. My favorite was the bunny creamer at our table! We also enjoyed the afternoon tea and cheese and crackers served from 4-6pm. I liked the charm and character of the rooms as well as the decor. We would definitely return to the Fairville Inn when in the Brandywine Valley and are already looking forward to our next visit.
