This is the first time we have never left a hotel complex for a whole week! Beautiful hotel. We were greeted by El Mehdi ... who personally greeted us by name and made us feel so special for our entire stay. Our bedroom on the 4th floor had fantastic views across the pool and golf course to the sea and sunsets. Great layout and excellent efficient maid service. Although we had halfboard booked for 4 nights we actually used it for 6 nights. Great variety ... any amount of oysters on 3 of the nights. Wok, Pizza, Tagine stations. Large salad bar. Soup. Fresh fish and meat cooked to order ... thank you Elias!!! Lovely selection of desserts too. We are foodies ... and we were delighted with choices. Courtesy bus to take you to The Medina in Essouira ... a must visit to soak up the traditional atmosphere. Pool areas were delightful. Large range of the most comfortable beds and fluffy towels. Pool we used was refeshingly cold but we swam in it every day. Omar looked after us very well. Food at pool are was great. Houda and Kalhid were very attentive at the main buffet. Golf course excellent. Wide open fairways and fast good greens. Challeging but not punishing holiday golf. We are 7 and 23 handicappers ... both of us really enjoyed it. The back 9 is lovely ... the 16th par 5 was our favourite. We will definitely be back .... soon I hope!! I do have a few suggestions to make a visit even better ... and please don.t see this as a negative ... - coffee/kettle in bedroom even if it was a nespresso and you had to pay per pod - I am not sure if it is the culture not to disturb at the pool .. but someone jyst to come up and ask every hour or so would you like a drink would be lovely ... even though we always got a prompt response. - maybe look at how the beds and toppers are made up ... they seem to be very high in the middle and you tend to roll off to the sides ... lie on one for 5 mins .. you will understand xx However ... this is a fantastic hotel and we would really recommend it. Well done Sofitel Mogador! Two very happy guests.
This is the hotel that dreams are made of. The accommodations defy describing. The service and food were perfect. The atmosphere is really really special. The proximity to the town of Essaouria was great. At first I was a little disappointed not to be in the middle of the city, but after staying at the resort, I LOVED the location. We can't wait to go back!
Great location and hotel. Don't expect European 5-Star Resort. Staff friendly and doing well with a little more attention to guests desirable. And leave mobile phones in the pocket:). Food average. If you like watersport and golf I suggest this hotel for a more luxurious feel.
This is our 4th visit to this wonderful hotel - We appreciated the Mogador villa upgrade as well as the free breakfast offered related to our last stay's complaints in the summer - Loved the peaceful nature of the resort, great place to relax - Liked the Mogador island and sea views from the villa - We loved the beautiful gardens and landscape of the hotel - Breakfast and dinner buffet were very good - A special thanks to Khadija from Kasbah restaurant, as well as the butlers Hakima and Aziz who were very helpful and answered all our requests in general, there's a lack of attention to details that causes issues, for example: - The ventilation didn't work in the guest toilet - Some bed sheets had holes in them - In the kids bedroom closet, the lower part the wall was uncovered and pipes and cement can be seen - The turndown service consisted of only water bottles being delivered! - There's no lights at night in the pathways from the villa to the restaurant, had to use a flashlight! Don't know why this hasn't been fixed, I brought this issue up during my last 2 stays
We had wanted to visit Essaouira for some time and had seen a great winter break deal for this hotel so took the plunge and booked a week in November. I am so glad we did and are very happy to report that this is a fantastic hotel and an excellent base to explore the many activities that this jewel of Morroco has to offer. The hotel is exquisitely designed with attention to detail everywhere you look, we stayed in a "Luxury premium room" with views over the golf course and ocean . We stayed on half board and were blown away by the quality and diversity of the food on offer with staff being both attentive and friendly. An excellent spa and fitness gymnasium is available and bicycles can be hired for 100 dirhams a day which is a good way to explore the hotel grounds and golf complex, the wide clean beach is only a 5 minute bike ride away too. Top tips Buy your alcohol at your departure airport in the UK, this is not a cheap place to drink and limited places to buy in Essaouira town itself. Bring games and books as no entertainment in the evenings. Wi-Fi is free and excellent reception in all of the hotel so it's easy to stay in touch with friends and family. Essaouira is a very photogenic place that will delight the senses and a stay at the Sofitel mogador golf & spa compliments the experience greatly. Enjoy.
We last visited this lovely hotel a couple of years ago and were so pleased with the whole trip that we just had to return. We'd planned the trip to coincide with my wife's birthday, in mid-October, and as we'd previously been in July we weren't sure what to expect with weather, but we needn't have worried as the temps rarely dropped below mid-20's during the day. Due to the time of year, and the fact that we were there a week before half term, the hotel was pleasantly quiet, although every evening saw the restaurant full. Unsurprising really because the food is continuously varied and excellent. Some of the tagine dishes were just out of this world, so much so that I got the head chef to give me a cooking lesson one afternoon, and have brought some great ideas back to our kitchen at home! I wish I played golf because the course looks just wonderful, and we spent a few a hours wandering around the verdant course and down to the dunes that border the Atlantic, half a mile away. The nearby town of Essaouira is just lovely - nothing at all like the bustling heat and constant aggravation of the souks of Marrakesh - and there are so many fine restaurants to choose from you could spend the whole week just eating. The vibe is just nicely laid back, without shopkeepers hastling you as soon as you look in the direction of their goods. The whole week was so relaxing, the staff were all so attentive and helpful, even surprising my wife (and me) with an impromptu rendition of 'Happy Birthday' accompanied by a lovely chocolate cake. We'll definitely return, and I highly recommend to anyone, especially if you're a golfer.
I am staying here right now and quite disappointed about a few things and unfortunately it's all those bad things that cancel out the good. So here it goes: 1. Toilet door is a frosted door with a kind of handle outside and nothing on the inside, so you have to use your finger to pull it in, annoying, 2. No tea or coffee facilities in the room! I feel this is standard for all hotels to have this facility 3. No tables in the room just these tree trunks which are damn heavy to move 4. On the very first day room service made our room by the time we had our breakfast, so when we came back it was a nice surprise. Also in the evening we had turn down service. Since then they have come to the room after 1pm and we haven't had turn down service since 4. Shower was odd to use and no instructions in the hotel information folder 5. We had a room service person come to us in the evening to give us water. I asked for a box of tissues (because the one in the bathroom was filled with literally 10 tissues at a time, I think they must count them up and shove them in the box). The guy sort of nodded and smiled.....and never came back. The following day same time a female room service person came. As well as givibg us water bottles, we got the box of tissues 24hrs late! 6. Food is pretty bad. I mean this is Sofitel a 5 star hotel but the food is more 2/3 star. Very poor selection of hot food and whatever they do have is very flavourless. There are no signs to say what the foods are so you have to ask or figure it out for yourself. I have probably had two nights were food was nice. 7. In the So Spa they have the gym, heated swimming pool, jacuzzi and also some beauty treatments. We just wanted to use the heated pool and jacuzzi and they have the cheek to charge you as a paying customer of the hotel! 8. Everytime you go into the restaurant they should be taking you to a table of your choice and taking your drink order but no, most of the time we walked to a table and waited for someone to come up to us and take our order. 9. Private beach is about 30 minute walk away and the guy was telling us its really far away. He said that you would have to walk through the narrow roads or you could walk golf course. So I asked if they could take us down in one of the golf buggies (there was one parked outside), we would have walked it back anyway. The answer was no we can't the golf buggy are not ours it's the golf clubs. Hold on a moment, is it not all one place as per the name of the hotel??!! 10. In the lobby area there was a horrible stench in the air, someone must have complained and only in today does it smell nice! The only two good things are they have a free shuttle bus between 10 to 6 that takes you to Medina and between 10.30 to 6.30 brings you back. The beds are super comfy and huge! Staff are ok but most do not understand English which is a big struggle! In summary extremely disappointing, I can't believe I have wasted my money on this place as I was really looking forward to coming here and I thought Sofitel is a good brand name so I had high expectations. Sadly I was mistaken and I don't think I will ever step into another Sofitel hotel again after this!
This hotel in one word is described as luxury. Yes you pay for it, but yes you do get it. I paid $300 for a beach and pool view suite. The staff is super helpful. They have bikes you can take down to the massive beautiful golf course. It's awesome !
The best 5 stars hotel is Essaouira. Luxurious and chic to Sofitel standard. But the room is a bit old, stingy and need to be renovate to be perfect, now it's like upcountry Sofitel's room. The pool is gorgeous and the golf course is excellent, very close to nature.
All in all this is a nice hotel with pleasant helpful (mostly, see below) staff, big rooms, nice grounds - and the hourly, on the hour, free shuttle bus into town is great (it comes back every hour on the 1/2 hour) and drops you very close to the southern gate into the medina, the Bab Sbaa. The room was a decent size, but NO shelves or table tops on which to put things apart from 2 little "tree stumps" and a very narrow shelf which ran along back of the bed. Strangely there was a huge blue tiled step-in bath in the room so I ended up putting toiletries, camera etc.etc. on it's rim and even in the bath! Would seem to make more sense to get rid of this bath and replace it with a desk or chest/dressing table. There is also a big area with wardrobes/shelves - but this has no full length mirror. Bathroom arrangements are shall we say quirky! The toilet has a full length frosted glass door which just pulls to so not much privacy. Opposite that is the big shower with an up to the ceiling glass door so nowhere to hang a towel and if you put the bath mat on the floor it just rucks up and away when you open/close the door. Sounds like small niggles but makes it awkward to use. Only 2 hooks on which to hang towels or clothes, no other rails or hooks at all. We could not puzzle out how the shower switched on (and we've been to very many different hotels in different countries) and had to dial for help. The fridge wasn't working and at the 4th time of asking someone came to fix it. Hairdrier didn't work and then started to smoke! It was replaced. Nice balcony overlooking the grounds, and fabulous sunsets, and golf course and sea in the far distance. It's a long walk to the beach on a hot day! The pool area is lovely with lots of very comfortable sunbeds and attentive staff, the Hotel's Ambassador who greeted us by name each morning and stopped for a chat. Unfort. the peace was ruined for several days by 4 very loud French children running amok in and around it, not using the children's pool (not that this would have stopped their shrieking). We tried lunch at the poolside restaurant but were not at all impresssed, quite pricey and cheap processed meats in the salads, unpleasant sauce on pasta etc. Breakfasts were OK, usual buffet European food. Dinner looked better than it was, but acceptable. The tureens of foods were not labelled so had to guess, and a row of black tagines had extremely heavy and unwieldy lids to try to remove. Small serving spoons, no tongs. Really impractical. By the cooking station they had a plate showing raw examples of what they were cooking that night e.g. chicken skewer, fish fillet, lamb steak. Also round the back we discovered on 2nd night there was always some sort of roast, such as duck or lamb but this was not indicated by a notice or arrow or anything whatsoever. Often there was no sort of potato on offer. The desserts were rather beautiful bought-in patisserie-style, good and nice cheeses. We booked a taxi, at reception , well in advance that morning, to go out for lunch. It didn't arrive because it had not been ordered. We were then told it would take 30-40 mins.because insurance had to be arranged (???) and it had to be a grand taxi costing 200 MD as petit taxis were not allowed to come out of the Essaouira locality. I asked reception to ring the restaurant (La Fromagerie, good) and they sent a taxi (a petit taxi!) out to pick us up within 10 minutes and it cost 100 DM.. Really don't understand what that was all about. The other fiasco was the non-appearance of my birthday cake, ordered by friend days in advance, and he had also checked later to make sure it had been ordered - To cut a long story short, after several more enquiries in the restaurant, we waited about 30-40mins. until at last it arrived, very cold in the middle!, I think the long wait was for it to be collected from town and then defrosted. This sounds like one long moan, but actually overall did enjoy the stay and, regardless, I would recommend this hotel. Just pointing out it's weak spots, which could so easily be put right. We booked through Fleetway so was good value overall.
