The exterior and public areas of the hotel are quite splendid. The room is very generic - nothing out of the ordinary. I found the lighting to be quite poor in our room. The bathroom is large and modern and well-appointed. Towels, toiletries etc were plentiful and of good quality. The bed was comfortable but the linens were either not well sized or not properly put on the bed; I woke up with the duvet uncovered from the sheets in which it was qrapped, and the bottom sheet and mattress cover crumpled under my feet. Not really much space in the public parts of the hotel to sit and relax, unless you have reservations in one of the restaurants. Overall it was a perfectly fine hotel, but I'm not sure the rooms live up to the glamour of the building.

Nice room. The person checking me in I found to be cold/unfriendly. That has always been my issue w the staff at this Fairmont. My room faced the street and there was either snow clearing or street work that made it hard to sleep past 5am.

Check in was a little horrendous. I booked a city view and was checked in to a river view room. Any other day it would have been okay but during New Year’s Eve we wanted the city views for the vibe of New Year’s Eve from the outside. Then finally I was able to move to a city view room but not a smooth move either. I was told room 302 and so we went there with all our bags and the keys were not working. Then the keys said 320 so we headed there and the keys were not working either. Mind you I have a toddler with me and my mom who were both saying they were hungry at this time and we were supposed to be relaxing for an hour prior to our dinner reservations. Of course we missed our reservation for dinner and because we were just done from the horrendous check in we ended up doing room service at the hotel. We had someone knock on our door trying to give us a burger order instead of our dinner order. Honestly the way it was dealt with was not up to par to what I expect from fairmont. No apologies and no compensation. Instead they were trying to say the room we were checked into was an upgrade at first and then being told that it was a partial city view… when all we could see was lake view. Staff honesty could be a little more transparent. If it wasn’t for a warm pool this review would be a 1 star.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the room itself was quite noisy. Soundproofing was very limited, and normal hallway activity and the nearby ice machine were clearly audible, with the ice machine causing disruptive rattling in the room when it cycled on. The room itself also felt fairly more in line with a budget airport hotel then what we had expected given the setting and price. After a poor night’s sleep the first night, and with the added disruption of a crying baby in the adjacent room on the second night, the staff did not hesitate to move us to a quieter room, which we were very glad for. The massage therapists were fully booked during our stay, which is understandable, though unfortunate as it was something we had hoped to enjoy. Finally, the property grounds were not shovelled during our visit which meant we werent able to walk around and explore as we had planned. Overall, while we appreciated the efforts of the staff and their willingness to address issues as they came up, the stay did not fully meet our expectations. We left feeling somewhat dissapointed, particularly given the setting and what we had hoped would be a restful experience.
