From start to finish the service received was exceptional. Via email upon booking i advised it was a birthday treat and ordered a birthday cake to the room (which arrived promptly by a lovely receptionist). All of the staff we came in contact with were lovely and friendly. On arrival the girl on reception advised we had been upgraded to an amazing LA suite! This was spacious, clean and comfortable, and felt right out of a Hollywood apartment. The bath & waterfall shower was incredible! We were recommended to use a nearby multistory car park instead of paying the prices of the on street car park which was very helpful. We enjoyed a few cocktails in the bar, and a lovely breakfast the next morning. We will 100% be back for another amazing stay I'm sure. Thanks again to all of the staff at Le Monde for making a very happy birthday stay :) x
Clean rooms, but with a few “design features” I can only ascribe to British builders ;) Lovely service, beautiful decor, shame the bar was expensive. Convenient location with ok parking opportunities, but the recommendation to park your car a mile down the road? Nah, please. Still enjoyed our stay and enjoyed the room and bed.
Have just returned from a wonderful stay at Le Monde! I booked an overnight break for my husbands birthday and requested the Tokyo suite. One of the things I loved about the booking process, was that the website allows you to see the rooms!! Too many hotels are too vague about which rooms correspond to the pictures on the website! At Le Monde, what you see is what you get :) The location of the hotel is great! We travelled by train and the hotel is central to everywhere we wanted to go. On arrival, we sat in the beautiful (very well stocked) downstairs bar as we were early, and on checking in we were told we had been booked into the Tokyo suite! The room was absolutely beautiful, immaculate and full of character and there was a lovely plate of chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us, with a birthday card for my husband. The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries and a huge sunken bath with a screen looking into the bedroom which can be frosted for privacy (if you pull the string on the ceiling!) There was also a well-stocked minibar and complimentary bottled water, coffee machine, etc...Oh and 3 televisions!! :) The staff at Le Monde were all fabulous and couldn't have been any more helpful or pleasant. They really couldn't do enough for you. Can't understand how anyone can find fault in this beautiful hotel!! We can't wait to go back! Thanks again, everyone, for a wonderful stay :)
I can highly recommend this hotel as being the most apt place to stay in Edinburgh. The staff were amazing & so friendly. The room was by far the best hotel room I’ve ever stayed at in my life (we were in The Atlantis) & having a fish tank between the bed & bathroom was fab! The breakfast was great – where else to scran the tastiest salmon other than in Scotland. We did treat ourselves to some cocktails at the bar & I would definitely advocate having the mojitos. Staying at this place made our holiday weekender that little bit more special than just staying at any generic hotel. With a variety of city themed rooms – this boutique hotel is fab & also situated in a great location (with the train station only a 5-7 minute walk down the road).
Went there for dinner this weekend and we couldn't fault the meal at all and Eva our waitress was so attentive! Nothing was too much trouble! We'll be back!! Thank you all! Highly recommend this venue for a relaxed atmosphere and the cocktails were excellent too!!!
We had a fantastic stay and it's one of the best boutique hotels I've stayed in. This was a Christmas present for family, and we had 3 rooms - Moscow, Beijing and Atlantis. Beautiful rooms; the view from all windows was of the flat roof, but the building detail outside showed off the great Edinburgh architecture, and we also had great views of the top of the Scott Monument. All rooms had great decor, and with the flat screen TVs window seats, coffee machines and tea and biscuits, and a desk, it had everything we needed. The beds were huge and we all had great sleeps and the air con in the room is the quietest I have ever (not) heard! We had the room cool at night but despite trying to listen for it, we never heard it kicking in, rather it just cooled the room gradually - I was really impressed with that! I have to say the shower was EXCELLENT (one of the more important things), with a huge waterfall shower head, great pressure and oodles of hot water. We just loved it. Jasmin allowed us to leave our 3 rooms' worth of bags a couple of hours early, and they were waiting in our rooms when we arrived back - great service. All the staff we dealt with were excellent, and booked a table for us in the club (a little loud for some of the 'older' members of our party, but unfortunately we weren't able to book a table in the piano bar, Dirty Martini, because it was privately booked, but it was great that they did secure a table for us in the club. Breakfast was really lovely and extremely reasonably priced and the selection was amazing. The hotel lounge is also lovely with the large wing-backed armchairs and fireplace. Despite the music from the Shanghai Club, none of us heard any sound at all when we went back to our rooms, despite the club staying open until the wee hours. The hotel location is fantastic for visiting New Town and we all agreed that we would definitely stay here again. It's a minute walk from St Andrew's square and round the corner from Princes Street, so plenty of good restaurant and bar choices. We actually bumped into some friends who were also in the city the same weekend, and they had lunch at Le Monde and said it was beautiful and very well priced, so that's on the agenda for our next visit. I honestly cannot find any criticisms of the place or the staff, everything really was just perfect. The only member of staff I know was Jasmin on reception and she was fantastic - very welcoming with her big smile, and her and the rest of the staff really couldn't do enough for us. It's that kind of service that really stayed with us and we were sorry to leave.
Just the most beautiful hotel. I stayed in Rio and my colleague Milan, both over the moon with our rooms, we didn't want to leave. Also the beds were unbelievably comfortable. Every member of staff we encountered were warm and friendly. We will definitely be staying here again.
My partner and I were given the Cairo suite as the room I had requested was not available. The room was dark and damp. Furnishings marked and worn, paint coming off the walls and small flies/beasties jumping about the basin in the bathroom. Having written a letter of complaint/concern to the hotel over a month ago I have heard nothing back. Will not be staying again. Waste of money at £190 for 1 night and that was if cheaper too!!!!
I should start by saying I really enjoy staying at boutique hotels because it is a much more personal experience and there is much more of a family atmosphere. That being said it's important to remember that you won't have some of the amenities of larger chain hotels like 24 hour room service, etc. We stayed at Le Monde over New Years and the location could not have been more perfect for all of the festivities. It is also a short walk to many attractions (Royal Mile, the castle, Scotch Whiskey Experience, etc.). Edinburgh is a hilly city, so make sure you bring sensible footwear! We stayed in the Sydney room and it was very spacious. The view consists of the side of the building next door, but they did a great job of making it unique. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, there is a bit of a lack of privacy in the bathroom. I was staying with my husband, so it wasn't an issue but I thought it was worth mentioning for those that might be staying with friends. The staff at Le Monde is great! I'm terrible with names, so i wish I would have paid closer attention to those that stood out. Everyone we encountered at the front desk were great, but the woman that helped us at check in was exceptional. We arrived quite early and she was very helpful in giving us updates on the status of our room. As mentioned above, food room service ends a little early so another person ordered a pizza for us and had it delivered to our room. As mentioned in other reviews the music can be a bit loud and can be heard until the early hours of the morning. It really didn't bother us, but the atmosphere isn't for everyone. The restaurant and bar were always busy, so it's clear that it is a popular place for locals and tourists. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Le Monde and hope to visit again in the future.
Great venue to meet friends and have a few drinks before hitting the city. Two levels in this bar and food is also available however make sure you book a table as it is extremely popular. There are a series of tables towards the rear of the bar and there are a number of booths also available too on the outer edge of the bar. Before the bar area is a large seated area with an array of chairs to just kick back and have a few drinks with friends too.
