We stayed one night at the HIE for a birthday party at a bar on the waterfront. The location was perfect for us - though I do think it would be a good place to stay for a longer visit to Edinburgh. Ocean Terminal is directly across the street - as is the Royal Yacht Britannia. Buses run up to the City Centre at regular intervals. The Shore is a great area for dining and grabbing a cocktail or pint. The room was comfortable and well designed. We would definitely stay again if we have an excuse to be in the area again.
Stayed here for one night as visiting local restaurant and attractions. Hotel is very clean and in good condition. Staff were friendly. Room is well appointed with comfortable bed and plenty of room, parking is free and I managed to park right at entrance. Would recommend. No complaints.
My wife and I stayed there for one night as we wanted to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia and have a night out in Leith. We arrived really early, 11 am but they managed to give us a room. We had a king size double which was super, quite compact but everything you needed, including ironing board etc. Very comfy bed, nice ensuite and very clean. Super breakfast included as was the car park, all for £69! Great deal and highly recommended.
We’re just had a 2 night stay here and would definitely recommend the hotel for an out of town base. We had an initial problem on check-in as I’d used Superbreak to book our package selecting a double room & sofa-bed as we have a toddler.Apparently that hadn’t been booked but reception changed our room allocation without a fuss. We also checked in early just chancing our luck as we were merely looking to drop our luggage off but the room was ready. The bedroom wasn’t ‘roomy’ with the sofa-bed out & we struggled with places for a suitcase, buggy & us!!! The bathroom was shower only- no bath, not a major issue for a 2 night stay but not sure if baths are available which we would have needed if our stay would have been longer. The door to the bathroom also acted as the door to close off the toilet- I’ve seen this before but it’s still a weird set up. There isn’t much shelf space available for all the family toiletries but there was plenty of towels The air-con kept coming on automatically which was annoying since we turned it off! Air-con in November isn’t really necessary The tv worked well & the beds were comfortable The breakfast buffet is good- all fresh and tasty looking with lots of tea and coffee choices The toaster is a nightmare giving you barely toasted or black! Annoying The second night we were staying unfortunately my daughter was sick all over the bed & a towel so I called housekeeping and we had a full fresh bed linen change within 10 minutes- they couldn’t have been any more helpful and we were so glad of that. They asked if we needed a pharmacy or Dr etc. I’d definitely stay here again if we were to go to Leith mainly because the staff we so helpful & the cleanliness was faultless. The room set up could be worked on however to give me workable space
We chose this hotel for the price, free parking along with breakfast included and were not disappointed. Arriving ear Ire than expected and before check in time we were told our room was available. Great sized rooms for a twin share with a view overlooking the ocean terminal (almost!) Reception staff advised us how to get into the city centre and also that the Edinburgh Hop on hop off bus also stopped out the front which was a fabulous way to get around town. Local buses also ran regularly to the city and the airport. A taxi to the Royal Mile cost us £18 which reception booked for us. Breakfast was served early and was more than an adequate selection. Would definitely recommend HI Waterfront to others and would surely stay again.
A friendly welcome on arrival. It was quiet late but we were able to get a drink in the bar. we had a good nights sleep.Breakfast was nice plenty of choice. We spent the next day in Edinburgh & were aloud to leave our minibus & catch the bus into the city. The bus stop is right out side the Inn! We would recommend to everyone.
We arrived very early to the hotel and they were able to check us in!! Rooms are lovely, light and airy also very quiet considering we were right beside a busy road!! Breakfast was enjoyable with plenty on offer. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel gates with an excellent service (buses every 5 or 6 mins) to take you into Edinburgh. The reception staff will give you change for the bus as the buses do not give out change!!
This a typical holiday inn express but the staff are good. Very friendly welcome at reception and when we asked for our room to be cleaned early to allow us to get changed to attend a wedding nearby this was done readily. The breakfast is simple but adequate and it is close to public transport, the nearby shopping mall, a variety of excellent restaurants and the royal yacht.
We stayed here with a tour group and was surprised at the quality of the accomodation. However it was rather noisy due to a party group who wanted to party on. The breakfast area and bar are quite nice. Location is out of town, you will need to travel by bus or taxi.
This is your standard HI Express product and represents good value for money. The location is good. There are lots of lovely restaurants nearby and it is only a short bus ride (£1.60 single fare) to the city centre. The room was small but clean. The bathroom was very compact but had a good shower and again was clean. There is a proper hairdryer although you have to sit on the floor to use a socket near the mirror. There is also an iron and board. Breakfast was buffet style and we had no complaints. The reception staff are very pleasant and exceptionally well informed. Would stay again.
