Hotel du Vin & Bistro Edinburgh

It is expensive during Tattoo- everything is Local is perfect, close to Royal Mile but tucked away on a quiet street We ate at the restaurant- the food was very good, lovely setting Bed was lumpy, pillows had no stuffing in them Hard to sleep with the gin garden right below us. Saturday was horrible, noise didn't stop until 12:30 pm So grateful we got into our room when we arrived from our international flight

We stayed here the last week of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This was my second stay at the Hotel Du Vin. The location is great, only a short walk to the Royal Mile. My only complaint is with the wait staff in the Bistro Restaurant in the hotel. I had received several emails prior to our trip about special dining offers in the restaurant, but the wait staff had no idea what I was talking about even though there were flyers regarding the special offers on the main desk in the lobby. After having dinner there the night of our arrival, we only ate breakfast there the rest of our stay. At breakfast we sat by another couple who had waited over 20 minutes for tea and coffee. That same morning our table had no cups and saucers. When our tea and coffee was delivered, I asked the waitress for cups. She never brought them. I finally got up an retrieved some from an unused table. The food in the restaurant is good, but the service isn't. Other than that, our stay was great,

The building and rooms are excellent, clean, modern and beautiful. Bathrooms were pristine. The location is really ideal. My only critique is that they need more wait staff. We twice left the outdoor dining area after waiting for 15 minutes for someone to notice us or come take an order. Maybe we were just there at very busy times, but the outdoor area seems pretty consistently busy.

We loved staying at Hotel du Vin. This is a great location for several museums, the grass market and restaurants. The sightseeing bus stopped just one street over. There is no elevator above the second floor, but this was only a problem for us checking in and out because we had 2 heavy suitcases. I would still recommend his beautiful hotel to anyone.

Its an easy 1/3 of a mile walk to the royal mile or a half block walk to the Scottish National Museum. On the street behind the Hotel is a pub called The Sandy Belle that has folk music every night. If you play you can probably join in there. We loved the location. The 27 Bus stops out front. And breakfast was decent. What more do you need?

Stayed at the hotel for four nights and we were very satisfied. Staff from the moment we arrived were extraordinary. Every person went out of their way to make sure your stay was pleasant. Hotel facilities were all very good. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Nicely retrofit into an old building, with all the modern conveniences. Plenty of hot water in the shower and bath, beds were comfortable and heating / ac was controlled in the rooms. Restaurant and lounge were also very good. Food was delicious and prices were reasonable. Wait staff, like all others in the hotel, were friendly and attentive. Outdoor courtyard for drinks or al fresco dining. Very nice and we will definitely return.

Several problems- the first was that I booked a "Superior King room with bath". The bath and shower were actually in the bedroom with no privacy (no partition or curtain, etc) which would be fine for a couple but I was sharing the room with a teenage daughter who was not happy about the situation either. That should really be made clear on the booking end. One assumes the "bath" is a room ensuite. Second, the air conditioning/heating unit in the room did not work. This was during a small heat wave and the room was too warm for sleeping. Third, the smoke alarm went off early in the morning for no reason. All in all a pretty terrible value for $400 a night. Would definitely not recommend or stay there again. Also, for anyone with mobility problems- rooms are accessed by a fairly complicated combination of corriders, stairs and elevator. Upside- the restaurant is good.

We loved Hotel du Vin. Reception was extremely welcoming, the decor was beautiful, the room was clean and comfortable, the location was perfect for getting around the city and to sights, restaurants and transportation, and the price was right. We would definitely stay here again.

The rooms were comfortable and clean. Lighting in the room was dim. All the rooms face a courtyard seating area that can get noisy at times. The hotel staff was helpful and pleasant . Overall enjoyed our hotel experience.

Very comfortable beds, very clean, warm room. Convenient location.

Hotel du Vin is well located in the heart of Edinburgh, it's cultural activities, restaurants and bars. It was an easy walk to most everything we wanted to do. The Staff was welcoming throughout our stay. The upstairs cocktail lounge is restful and it was fun watching the bartender mix his potions! I requested a room upgrade and unfortunately got it. There are no room Numbers, rather they are given names of wines -- and not the normal variety. I found it hard to remember CATINA ZAPATA. There are many stairs to get to the rooms - hard on the knees. NOTE: While quite lovely, Do Not request Zapata unless you are completely uninhibited. The room is totally open - from bed to bathroom - meaning no separating walls or doors. If your partner is in bed, they are subject to the lights of the bathroom and the fun of seeing you brush your teeth, undress for the shower or bath, and will also be privy to sounds of using the bathroom. A glass door to the toilet doesn't go from floor to ceiling...so there's that. I had to ask for a second washcloth. I had to ask for foam pillows twice. There was no outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer; I dried my hair next to the bed sans mirror. Lots of negatives (for me) with this room, yet the hotel was clean, nice, and a bit accommodating as they gave me back one night's upgrade cost. THumb's up to the hotel...NOT the Zapata room!!

Well located. Clean and stylish. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Would definitely stay here again!

Staff helpful and kind, had an upgrade on room, spacious, reflected Edinbugh in style. Amenities like plenty of fresh water. Recommend and would stay again.

Hotel met our expectations in every way. Room was small but really well set out.

Friendly and accommodating staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, plus a welcoming front courtyard and bistro to sit and have a pint/read a book. Highly recommend! It was the perfect place to spend my last night in Edinburgh.

Charming hotel with small rooms. Nice bistro/bar/wine collection. Very convenient location to Royal Mile and the University. Downside: no exercise facility. Would return without a doubt.
