Castleview Guest House

I visited this guest house with my two daughters and we had a 3 bedroom; one double and one single. The beds were very comfy and the room was very spacious and looked as if it had recently been refurbished to a good standard more like a 4 star hotel. The en-suite was also decorated to a high standard with a shower that also looked new and was powerful. I was pleased that they even had a hair dyer in the draw and there were biscuits, coffee, tea and sweets on the welcome tray. A bottle or two of mineral water would have made it even better. The guesthouse is in walking distance of lots of restaurants and to the main shopping road. It is lovely to also have the view of Edinburgh Castle. Great location. I would recommend a stay here.

Very central location, affordable prices, clean and spacious rooms. Breakfast included with several options, vegetarian catered for. WiFi also included. All rooms are upstairs with no lift facilities available. Reception only open several hours. Unfortunately there is some outside noise on the weekend

Let’s get the bad out of the way – Castle View occupies the top four floors of a six story building, so when they tell you your room is on the 4th floor, it is actually on the 6th . There is no lift, but the manager hustles the bags up and downstairs, thank heavens. It’s definitely a budget accommodation, with rather weary décor in the common areas. Now to the good – room was clean, bathroom (although tiny) had plenty of hot water/water pressure even on the top floor. Bed was comfortable and room was warm (March in Edinburgh-wet & cold!). Service staff is young, sweet-natured and friendly if somewhat rushed at times. The breakfast room is light and airy, overlooking the street, and breakfasts are plentiful and cooked to order. Vegetarian options available. Location couldn’t be better – walking distance to Waverly Station & Princes Street, plenty of shops and restaurants in the vicinity. There’s a taxi rank across the street.

This is a truly exceptional Guest House. The location is not only ideal but also with literary resonances (Kenneth Grahame was born in the house). Castle Street links Princes Street and George Street. From the street itself (and indeed from the breakfast room), one can see Edinburgh Castle towering over the city. From the door of the Guest House, one can reach all of Edinburgh's main locations in a number of minutes. The rooms are clean, well-furnished and very comfortable. All expected amenities are to be found. The breakfast is sumptuous and delicious. I cannot stray far from the Scottish Breakfast but there is a huge range to cater for all tastes and requirements. The breakfast only lacks kippers for a perfect offering! The guest service is spot on, from the heartfelt greeting to the ordering of breakfast. All staff are on hand to answer questions, gives tips and to make the stay meet the needs of the guest. All in all, a better Guest House is not be to be found in Edinburgh.

This guest house is in a great location for all types of guests, families, couples , friends. Shops restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions are all within walking distance with plenty of public transport available if you want to rest your feet. We had a family room which was spacious! Our beds were ok but the pillows were very hard. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast choice is good and very tasty! The are lots of stairs so be prepared! Would recommend and definitely stay here again !

Castle View Guest House is in the centre of Edinburgh - there are views of Edinburgh Castle from the breakfast room. The staff were pleasant. Our room was very clean and well stocked with tea bags, coffee and biscuits.

Very comfortable and clean. Nice and quiet with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location, close to all attractions and a brilliant location for the Christmas festivities. There is no lift so you will climb alot of stairs so be aware that if you want the view - you’ll have to climb stairs. We had tea/coffee making facilities in our room, nice clean towels and a great shower. Breakfast was very nice and the guesthouse is close to lots of places to eat. Very well priced and should we visit Edinburgh again I will definitely stay here.

Couldn't fault the place. Room was clean and comfortable, all the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful and we found the breakfast offered a great selection which should cater for every taste. Ideally situated and we felt it represented an ideal base at an excellent cost.

I struggled with what to rate this room, because it definitely had it's pros and cons. We didn't have a bad stay, but there were enough small inconveniences that I felt like I could not give it a 4 star rating. If you stay here you will definitely still enjoy Edinburgh and have a decent time. Pros: -Location was EXCELLENT. Especially during the Christmas season, you walk right outside and there's the Christmas market. Despite this, the room is insulated enough so that you're not bothered by the noise. You're just a few minutes walk from Waverly Station and the Royal Mile, and there's plenty of very good restaurants and shops nearby. -Breakfast was quite good and there was a decent selection. We especially enjoyed the cooked breakfast. -The staff was friendly and helpful. -The decor in the rooms is very lovely. Big windows with lots of light, and plenty of space. Cons/Inconveniences There were several things about the room that just seemed like they needed more thought put into them: -The shower door for instance was installed incorrectly, and a few minutes with a screw driver would have fixed it. You had to be careful not to get water near the opening as it would not close all the way. -Another item that just needed a bit more thought was the shower caddy in our bathroom, which was placed so that the water from the shower head would hit it. You had to stand a certain way, aim the shower head just right, and move the caddy to the side so that you could actually shower. Simply placing the caddy in another area would have fixed this. -The beds were not terribly comfortable as the sheets do not stay on. Again, this could be fixed so easily by getting new sheets - I'm pretty sure they are just too old to hold any stretch. -Towels were very old and had holes in them. -We couldn't use the toilet paper holder because it was placed directly bellow the where your towel was supposed to hang, so the toilet paper would get damp from the towel. Again, just poor planning. Simply put the toilet paper holder somewhere else. Most of these things could be fixed so easily, so I hope this guest house will take note of suggestions and continue to improve over time. It's not 4 stars yet in my mind, but if they heed advice they could get there.

Very comfy beds - but only one shabby towel to provide for the three of us, the shower was cracked on the base and missing a hose and my husband found a sock (not ours) under the bed whilst retrieving my son's toy - we were told nothing about breakfast either. Good location and comfy beds .. but would not return.
