I'm more inclined to stay at a Hilton Hotel, but this Residence was beyond expectation. The room itself was huge and appeared brand new. The hotel was very well maintained and the staff was friendly. I especially enjoyed the basketball court, which is a unique option that was a lot of fun.
Great free breakfast. Easy one mile walk to downtown. Easy access to river walk...Less than a half mile. Dog friendly. We would stay here again. The one bedroom suite slept four comfortably with the addition of a rollaway.
Stayed 2 nights. Clean room and staff was very accommodating . Nice location close to downtown. The breakfast was very good. Nice to have a laundry on property. We would stay here again. Loved Durango.
October 15, 2016 - Talked with Tyra Sandoval at the front desk while we were still at Cortez. She told me all about the Residence Inn at Durango; the fitness center, the breakfast area, the distance from the Durango and Silverton Railroad, etc. I was very impressed and told her that I might see her when we check into the Residence Inn since we would be staying for two nights. October 16, 2016 - Arrived around 12:30pm and was greeted with a smile and courtesy by Tess Reynolds at the front desk. Tess quickly checked us into room 132 on the first floor around two halls from the front desk but very close to an exit door that enabled us to easily get our luggage from our car to the room. WOW - were we impressed with our suite. We had a front window that allowed afternoon sun to bathe across the king bed as you can see from the pictures I have attached with this review. The king bed was very comfortable, the bathroom sink was outside of the toilet and shower area, the kitchen has a standard small refrigerator with a kitchen sink and dishwasher. It had all the comforts of home. The fitness center was just around the corner from the front desk along with the business center. The fitness center had free weights, two treadmills, a bike and an elliptical machine. The breakfast area was directly in front of the registration desk along with the coffee bar. One neat thing about breakfast was real dishes, not Styrofoam or plastic; and real silverware. This was the only time on our current trip that we had real dishes and real silverware; and it made an impression. Of course breakfast had cold and hot items, a variety of fruit (pineapple, strawberries and blue berries), plus several kinds of yogurt. There was hot oatmeal, eggs, and sausage. For the very first time ever in all of our travels, this Residence Inn had scrambled egg whites as a healthy choice in addition to regular scrambled eggs. Again, I was impressed. And, in keeping with the season, breakfast included a pumpkin spiced batter for the waffle machine in addition to the regular batter. Linda Vavra, breakfast supervisor and Darrell Reed, her assistant takes exceptional care of their breakfast guests. They made sure the breakfast items were fresh and well stocked. Linda and Darrell take care of the breakfast area as if it were in their own home. Upon check in while walking down the hall back to the front desk, I was talking with one of the maintenance employees. Was I ever surprised to find out that it had been seven years since the hotel had received an update and that an update was scheduled in the near future. Based upon my impression of the hotel, the employees have taken extremely good care of the hotel and Marriott is to be commended for its employees efforts. One last commendation to the hotel. On October 17, 2016, we went on the Durango and Silverton Railroad. Ed Simmons was our narrator on the San Juan car and we invited him back to the Residence Inn for a drink and to participate in the evening social. We arrived back at the hotel before Ed so I was able to clear it with the front desk and with the lady handling the evening social. Ed arrived, we had wine and chicken tacos for dinner; and a lovely conversation about the railroad and his employment as a narrator. We relaxed in a clean and warm atmosphere complete with a fireplace. It was made possible by the courtesy of the Residence Inn staff. I highly recommend this hotel and disagree with other reviewers who feel it is not Marriott quallity.
We had such a great stay at the one in Amarillo and thought we would again in Durango. My only complaint is that the kitchen was not nearly as clean as the other one. I don't like using utensils that are in unlined drawers. Also, the glass dishes had rings in bottoms as well as the ones in the bathrooms. I expect more out of Marriott.
It was either a Monday or a Friday for the front desk agent who checked us in. No smile, not welcoming; she just handed us our key with no explanation of room location, hotel info, etc. The room was clean; though the tub drain was clogged. Not impressed with this stay and will choose a different hotel next time.
The Residence Inn chain has proved to be a good bet when looking for accommodation. Well appointed rooms or suites, good breakfasts, easy car parking, only a few minutes from the town centre and the railway station to take one to Silverton.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite on the 3rd floor. Very nice, clean and comfortable. The staff in this hotel are the best! Tina, who was in charge of the social hour on Monday and Tuesday, was friendly and helpful. What a nice thing to have in the evening. We came in from Mesa verde, we're tired, our grandgirl wanted to swim and we didn't have to go out for dinner! They even had beer and wine and lemonade.
Everyone- yes everyone is very cordial and very nice. The location is scenic and one can see hills in every direction. The rooms are spacious and clean. I would definitely stay here again. The location is within walking distance to the railroad and downtown.
Durango is a beautiful, clean town full of great restaurants and really fun boutiques. Arrived here for a action packed weekend of touring the campus, hiking, eating, pub crawl tonight and tomorrow we hike down 3.5 canyon to catch the train. I'm excited.
