Having previously stayed in a large condo here I expected more. I was told the room had a bed, a sofa sleeper and small kitchen. The room actually has a Murphy bed and soft sleeper. It had nice cabinets and bedding BUT no air conditioning. The only outside air was from the deck which is shared with 2 other units. The screen could not be locked, unacceptable. A fan was brought up by housekeeping but it was so cheap it was noisy and vibrated even on the lowest speed. We were told they were sold out so we stayed one night.
Expedia cancelled our reservation last minute so we were out of luck when we showed up at Cascade Creek for a wedding there!! But Purgatory Lodge stepped in to help us! They found us a condo there last minute and also honored our Expedia rate. They also let us use their hottub many hours after checkout time. And did all of this in such a friendly and incredibly nice way. Btw- Their facilities are absolutely beautiful too!!! Highly recommend!!!!
I stayed here in August 2017 for about $80 per night. I liked the location a lot... not too terribly far from Durango, and also on the way to Silverton and Ouray. My room had a kitchen with a murphy bed which was actually pretty comfortable. I didn't utilize all the things to do there at the resort. It was primarily my sleeping spot, however, there were a lot of kids there having a blast with all the outdoor activities. Buy food on the way in from Durango if you have a kitchen. Even sodas are almost $4. at the store in the village. There's another store, Needles (?) not far away though. Everything closes early, so get what you need before 8:00 pm or you're out of luck. I thought the staff was friendly and helpful. Wifi was strong. I thought this was a great price for what all I received. I'll go back if I can get a rate like that again.
We stayed at a VRBO home across the street from the Lodge. Luckily, we our rental included access to the amenities of the Lodge, which was nice. The area is easy to find and the view is absolutely beautiful. Everything is clean, safe, family friendly and accessible. The down size is every activity costs a lot of money. For example, 10 activities such as riding the ski lift or putt putt golf is $79. The food, groceries and shops on the resort are very expensive so bring groceries. My biggest complaint is the ski lift. It only runs from 10 to 6 which is dumb because most hikers and bikers are up early and want to enjoy the morning. In addition, the lifts do not run when the weather has rain in the forecast. However, they run for bikers which sucks. Today, it rained but then the sun came out and the skies were blue. They refused to let us ride the lift but bikers could which is ridiculous. Whats the difference? Seems like they cater to bikers and not hikers.
It's really awesome to see the improvement made to the summer lifts and activities! So thankful for the 2nd bike lift that is now open. The kayaking lake was really fun during a break from biking. The pool and pool/bar service was great! The online Adventure Ticket discount was much appreciated. We love Purgatory!
This place is awesome! There are tons of stuff to do there. They also have two places to eat for dinner and breakfast and three places to eat for lunch. Very family friendly. Room was awesome. Very big. There was a fireplace and balcony in our room.
Purgatory Lodge is the place to stay if you are visiting Durango. I would recommend no other property. Only the main lodge. Time spent in Durango and riding Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will be a cherished experience for a lifetime.
We stayed in a 3 bedroom and 3 bath condo at Purgatory Mountain Lodge. It was beautiful and easily slept seven people! We could watch skiers from two different areas at the same time. We rated our trip on a level of 10. Highly recommend it!!!
Purg is great. The mountain is incredible, you can't beat the views or the laid back vibe. Our room was fantastic. Spacious and neat. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because we were situated near stairwell so it was incredibly loud with ski boots going up and down all day.
Rooms are nice and spacious. Kitchen is well equipped. Full size washer and dryer in unit is very convenient. Facility supplies wash soap for washer and bathrooms. Paper towels, bath tissue, kitchen soap and pot scrubber. Pick up trash everyday. Also have humidifiers for southern people who are used to a humid environment.
