Stayed here for 4 nights in the Victorian Room. Room is very large with its own ensuite Car parking is behind the building. Had a great continental breakfast with fresh fruit salad, yogurt, cereals, toast, crumpets, juice tea & coffee. Lovely resident cat Solstice. Just a few minutes walk from the town centre. It is on a hill but there are steps down around the corner that make it easier getting back up.
I was going to say `a lovely old building` but it seems like the owners have at least 2 of them in the business empire. I liked the look of it when we first arrived, there is a car park behind the building which is down a steep slope but this all worked fine. You need to unload your cases at the top of the slope. We had the book room, it was a bit old and tired, with grotty old furniture, and junk in the book shelves that no one would ever read and that hotel owners buy by the foot to make a place looked oldy worldly. The first set of towels we had were very old and rough and smelly, but they were better on day 2. I should not be tough on a review as i suppose for the price it was decent value, just could be better with a few tiny things done well. The shared bathroom was pretty average and you need to get in quick if there is a party of Chinese to compete against. I must say that i enjoyed breakfast and the breakfast room, there was a fruit salad on offer that included tinned peaches, and an array of breads to pop in the toaster. The black cat was a good character. I wont be rushing back and I don't expect that will bother anyone, just think with a tiny few more touches of improvement and care it would be miles better.
We stayed for 2 nights here. Our room was rather dark & facing the road quite noisy when the rubbish bins were emptied in the early hours. The bed was comfortable but found the towels rather musty. We had a shared bathroom across the hall which although clean had a rather pathetic shower. Free Wifi. However they did redeem themselves with a great continental breakfast provided. Fruit juice fresh fruit salad. All sorts of breads & muffins. Many cereals. Cows/Soya milk preserves marmite & filter coffee & a choice of teas. However I feel I should warn anyone not fairly fit that the walk back from the town is very steep!!
We stayed one night at this place and it was great value for money. The rooms were spacious and clean. The breakfast was good with strong coffee. The citycenter was just a hill down so great location.
Musty stale air in the room. Hole in floor boards covered by carpet. Curtains in room not properly attached to runners and would not close properly. Walk between the buildings presented a number of trip hazards and is dangerous for the less mobile and frail. Breakfast was very basic self serve with no hot option offered. Driveway is very steep and difficult to walk up as there are no hand rails. Description as a B & B is overstated and would more appropriately be described as a low end residential hotel. By far the worst accommodation we have ever had in NZ.
This B and B is an a cute old house, up a very large hill. I stayed in the “Persian Room,” which is spacious and comfortable, with high ceilings and big windows. It’s a little dated, but that’s part of the charm. There is a small fridge on site to store food, and the little back patio was nice to hang out on in the evening to read and have a drink. The location is also great - it’s a 5 minute walk to the main downtown area including lots of restaurants and Dunedin tourist attractions. Just a heads up that there is a cat on premises - for anyone who has allergies.
Very poor. Had to get pillows replaced as they smelled and where badly stained. mould in shower and bathroom. Burnt out light bulbs. Towel rail falling off the wall. Towels old ,frayed and quite rough. Good news was that the stay was one night. We where in the garden room. avoid at all cost. 2 star accommodation
Had to book in here as our first booking fell through and this was recommended by our first host. Ended up being a very good recommendation. Very spacious and airy room with an attached bathroom. Sleep quality very good and continental breakfast self serve in the adjoining building.
The Rose room Hulmes Court B& B Dunedin. A miss- mash of bedding. This was at 4 pm , at night it was worse as the street light shone through the round window ( Jacket trying to block it) all night along with the other windows. There was a sensor light shining through the curtained window virtually all night. Our room was also affected by the sensor light. We did speak to the girl working there & asked if anything could be done & was told it was sunny ..... Not to mention the building work & vacuuming going on till 5 pm & very noisy neighbors running between floors & shouting at each other till 10 pm Needless to say this room wasn't used & we only stayed 1 night not the 2 we were booked for.The whole place was worn out the towels were thread bare you had to go to the Kitchen/ dining room for a drink as there was no facilities in the rooms not even a sink to get a drink of water. The Hotel is 3 mins from town but at the top of a very steep hill, ( Its OK going down but getting back up took about 20/30 mins slow slog) Not recommended for the older sector
We stayed in a room with an ensuite. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom small but adequate. The woman who met us was very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was fine and we especially liked the fresh fruit salad. This is a fine old character house in need of a bit of a lift.
