Bridge House Dublin2.0 out of 5.0

If you're looking for a bed to sleep in and a warm shower to use while you spend the rest of your time exploring all that Dublin has to offer, this place is perfect! The price is really cheap, and you get what you pay for when it comes to the rooms. I wouldn't call the employees friendly or even hospitable, but they do their job. Don't plan on getting a full nights sleep -- you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the streets below at every hour. If you're coming to Dublin to enjoy the Temple Bar nightlife, the location is definitely worth the hotel's lack of charm. And there is a really great slice of pizza by the entrance to the hotel if you come back drunk and hungry. Bottom line -- if you're a night owl looking to party at Temple Bar until the early morning, stay at Bridge House. Especially if you're a student/casual traveler and you're used to hostels -- you at least get your own room and bathroom at Bridge House! If you're looking for a full nights sleep, aesthetic decor, and welcoming staff, do not book the Bridge House!
Booked 9 months in advance for St Patricks day through hotels.com. Hotel cancelled several months later because of "problems with credit card" which is just a stupid excuse. Confirmed with Amex that there were no failed transactions, so they obviously just cancels the rooms booked at lower rates because of overbooking or selling the room to someone else at a higher rate. Many calls to hotels.com, but haven't sorted out the issue yet. My friends got their rooms cancelled as well, but because of "renovations". So they obviously do this systematically with different made up excuses.
I have stayed at this hotel lots of times in previous years, until the past year and always thought it was cheap and cheerful until now!! Me, my family and friends have booked this hotel 3 times this year and every time we have arrived at the hotel there has been some sort of ''Emergency'' or ''over booking'' situation. The hotel has then moved us to several accommodations in areas we did not want to stay in which were taxi rides away. How is this hotel getting away with doing this? Telling us the day before would have been better but the inconvenience they have caused us on each weekend is appalling. The reception staff are not even sympathetic of the situation and need to learn some manners!!!
We booked before reading reviews, and were extremely worried when we later read reviews, but neednt have ,everything went fine..Location is spot on ,right at the edge of Temple Bar, rooms ok, linen changed daily, staff very friendly. To people moaning about the noise dont book at Temple Bar,book a bed and breakfast in the countryside...We enjoyed our stay .Access,, 24 hours a day, .no problem coming back late at night, would stay again..We arrived early and left late and leaving our luggage was not a problem at all, very helpfull..
We was really disappointed. One day before our booked flight to Ireland Dublin, they cancelled the booking we did month ago in the evening! Thy told us about problems with credit card. (Credit card works at every other place on our journey!) And our response three hours after we get this info was to late and they didn't have a room for us! The first mail contains an offer to find a sollution. But on our request if they can help to find an alternative we didn't get any answer. In conlusion I can't say anything about the hostel itselve, but the handling with the customer is very sad!
booked here because of the location and ignored the reviews. my mistake. arrived to be told that we dont have a room because of work going on, could have emailed that information!! he booked us into a hotel about 20 minutes away and didnt seem to care. think we got away with it though as the new hotel was better than this one(i assume!)
Booked a room at this place last minute and just took single room, but they give me a room with two singles so was fine. Upon entering, I got musty smell and thought oh no. Room was so out-dated and old, floor boards were like a roller coster. Yes, it's an old building ,but in such a bad way. It has small portable tv with only one channel so not much fun at all, wifi, no such thing either. I got stranded one other time and needed a quick cheap room, booked again as was desperate, when I arrived, a young girl at front desk told me that my reservation was canceled, I said i did not cancel it, she said Expedia cancelled it, I thought this to be very strange as they would have told me if they had. The young girl told me that it's not her problem and she can do nothing for me, i was upset so called Expedia and they informed me that my room was fully paid and not cancelled. The young girl shrug her shoulders and told me again, not her problem. Expedia located me to another hotel close by and I will never stay at Bridge House ever again. Turns out that they done this to other people and i know one friend who was told to go to their sister hotel which is also a dump. Stay away folks, yes it's cheap and not a bad location, but it's hell and filthy at the end doc the day.
We booked to stay here for 1 night as it was close to temple bar and offered an English breakfast - When we arrived we where told that they had moved us hotels as they had building work going on. They did not tell us this before arriving and the hotel we moved to was over the other side off the bridge and did not offer an english breakfast! We had to make them pay for a taxi to take us too the new hotel as he didn't offer this until I complained! AVOID AT ALL COSTS AND DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!
We arrived from edinburgh with 2 year old child only to be told by the most ignorant condesending person i have ever come across receptionist with red hair who claimed to be manager. That my card had been declined the day before although i was due to pay on arrival, i showed my confirmation still live which had been booked through hotels.com, she was not in the slightest intereted started shouting "im not a muppet its your fault" your card was declined she would not listen to hotel.coms either resulted in us standing outside hotel for over 2 hours on mobile to hotels.com who finally got us a apartment. I wish i had read reviews i have never saw such bad customer service or had to deal with someone so ignorant. STAY AWAY TRUST ME, i had 2 hours stress but a lucky escape.
We booked a room here months in advance. When we arrived, we were told that they were remodeling and that they would send us to another hotel a 20 minute taxi drive OUTSIDE of Dublin! They refused to locate us at a closer hotel, they refused to call the manager, they refused to give a refund on the spot, and they even refused to allow us to use the phone! We still have not been refunded for two nights and we had to pay DOUBLE the price to get another hotel in Temple Bar. We are not the only ones who experienced this. I wish I had read the reviews before booking with this hotel.
