If you don't mind to be outside of the city-center this is one of the best hotels I've ever been! Great hospitality, great rooms, great staff, only good things to say about this hotel. The price is relatively low. Very old building but look renovated and clean. Breakfast was excellent - not just rich but veru tasty!
Couldn't be happier with our stay at hotel Smetana on the first night of our holiday (stop over for a quick conference attendance). Our bags were lost by the airline and we were told that they should be delivered straight to the hotel by 11pm. When checking in, we informed the front desk staff (the most helpful Nick) about the situation. Not only did Nick call up to the room later in the evening to check if we had had any further information on our bags, he then took it upon himself to chase up the airline on our behalf for our luggage. Once it did arrive, without having to ask, he brought it straight to the room (one very large, heavy case and one large rucksack). He was always friendly and helpful, I travel regularly for business and have never had customer service like this in any of the large hotel chains. I would definitely stay here again.
Got a recommendation from the company I was visiting. Didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised! Very friendly staff, nice and comfortable rooms and delicious breakfast! All in all a very good find! I'll be back next time I'm in Dresden!
Very cute hotel, Rooms small only negative part. Hotel is not in the center. Far from center of the city. A lot of parking places around. No problem. Very good breakfast. Worse 9 Euro!. Eat there! Beds are comfortable. In the lobby complimentary vine and some small snacks and apples. Water, they give you for free. Ask for it. Sauna you can use for 5 Euro. Ask in advance to get ready for you. I love it. And was easy. A little pricy for small place like this. For 90 Euro can can include breakfast i think.
Selected this hotel from reviews on several booking sites all generally most positive. Ultimately we booked dierectly with the hotel and were provided with a large double with triple aspect views and which was effectively a suite. It provided an excellent respite from the rounds of sight seeing involved when visiting such a historic city. Although the distance from the centre of the old town is a drawback for some guests, the trams and buses running close to the propert provide reasonably priced and efficient access. Thr hotel also provides light afternoon refreshments in the form of coffee, cakes and wine at no cost. Breakfast is available and is charged at 9 Euros for a very full and comprehensive selection and provides excellent value. A limited amount of off street parking is available for those arriving by car but there is also street parking available. Personally we found the staff most helpul all seeming to enjoy not only their work but also a good sense of humour. Visiting Dresden was great and this hotel enhanced the total experience.
our corner suite for 3 days afforded us comfort, space, light, bathroom with shower and sitting area. The extra charge for breakfast was well worth EUR9 if only to get decent leaf tea with a very good choice but there was much more besides. On arrival with our dog we were made to feel most welcome and it is here that the standard was set, the assets of this hotel is its staff who are courteous and caring without being over deferential. Good beds with linen to match and excellent pillows, well fitted bathroom with a good shower and lots of hot water the room itself might benefit from an upgrade but that is subjective. Unfortunately no BBC World or Sky and wifi was poor in the room however set these aside and we had a fine stay. Parking around the hotel was easy and whilst in a suburb we managed the tram into Altstad in 15/20 minutes so no problem there and the benefit is not being surrounded by hoards of tourists and noise. Would I recommend the Smetana - without question yes and more importantly it's staff.
we stayed two nights end of August 2014. Hotel is lovely, very clean rooms and bathrooms. Comfortable bed. Wonderful breakfast for only 9 euro....worth every cent. The hotel is quite a distance from the center of town and there isn't much around in the way of restaurants. In fact on the Monday night the only restaurants that are close, are closed. Staff were very helpful and friendly. For us, without a car, we would stay closer in next time.
We stayed at Hotel Smetana only for one night but we would certainly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a comfortable and clean place in Dresden. The staff was very nice and always ready to help. Definitely try their breakfast, it was excellent.
This is a delightful small 4 star hotel just slightly outside the central core of Dresden. It is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Very good value for price paid. I have stayed here many times before and never been disappointed. Rooms are first-class, staff are well trained and very courteous, and the breakfast is outstanding. Parking is free, Wi-Fi is free and fast. I highly recommend this hotel.
Had to stay for a night in Dresden and was advised this hotel by a colleague. It's was close to the office I needed to go to and fairly easy to park (street). It's former eastern Germany so I should have expected the heavy copper keychain/keys for the room instead of a keycard. Check in was quick. The room was really nice however no safe. The bed was hard (I like that). Nice bathroom and a really great breakfast. Also great rates for the rooms... The elevator stops in between floors so you always have to go half a stairs up or down with your suitcases. The only negative would be the WiFi. It was heavily secured (both WPA2 and username/password and per device) and every time you paused for more then a minute you had to log in again. Also again my 3G did not work so my online presence was almost zero, of course I cannot blame the hotel for that. Will book again
