Hotel is everything that you need for a greate weekend away. Hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast waitress most tentative. Give her 5 stars for her sheer enthusiasm for her work. Bar staff and reception staff are very friendly. We will have no hesitation in recommending you and will be booking again. Thanks for a good service.

Hugely disappointing stay. After reading the reviews here we felt very let down. The room was not in the main hotel but behind the building in a quadrant of several other rooms all very close to each other, which was not made apparent on booking. clean and newly refurbed, had paper thin walls....being an upstairs room, which we were not informed about prior to our tip, we could hear everything from below. No internal temperature thermostat meant that the room was far too hot, we had to have both the bedroom and bathroom windows open all night...mid February! The mattress was 2 separate singles pushed together, scratchy sheets and pillows were harsh. The lighting in the room was very poor, even in the bathroom and misplaced mirrors throughout made getting ready for a birthday night out a stressful experience. The lamp on the desk was broken and 2 blind fixtures broke while trying to adjust blinds. The drinks refreshments were not replenished fully on our second morning, the toiletries limited and the reception staff were not friendly or welcoming at all. Overall a very disappointing experience, One we will not be repeating.

Me and my cousin eat here often in school holidays.food always amazing always plenty on plate. the beef brisket burger with Mac cheese is delicious. The chips are real tasty too staff are lovely and friendly quick service too .

Excellent location, easy friendly book in. Lovely room, quiet, warm and comfortable. Easy access. Bed was excellent - slept like a log! That is unusual in a first time location. Nice to have a restaurant and bar across from the rooms

Having lived in Barnstaple as a child I used to go to the cedars before it was refurbished and it’s an amazing change, the beds are so comfy where are the mattresses from? A large choice of breakfast each morning which suited everyone’s taste buds Even the food on the menu during the day/evening was good too. The 4.99 chicken burger was well worth the value and was super tasty! The only negative for me was the water in the bath/shower wasn’t hot enough for my liking Would highly recommend staying at the cedars as it’s central to both Barnstaple and surrounding areas such as bideford and Westwood ho

Very welcoming, delicious meal, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Can highly recommend the grilled salmon and roasted vegetables and the date and sticky toffee pudding was absolutely delicious ! Thank you

Excellent. The accommodation was lovely, clean and recently refurbished in lovely soft relaxing decor with luxury bathroom and fabulous shower. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Cedars, taking in the Motown night and fantastic carver. Excellent value for money and a top class and generous carvery. We loved every bit of it and highly recommend a stay at Cedars. All of the staff were friendly and helpful too. We will be coming back. Thank you Maggie and Mark

Wow! The Cedars Inn was the perfect venue for our wedding! The staff were amazing, the food was amazing and the rooms were perfect! The entire day went without a hitch, I didn’t have to worry about a thing! I cannot thank Sophie enough for all her help on the run up to the wedding and on the actual day! Also thanks to Peter for all your help, it was lovely to see a calm face before walking down the aisle! And a special thank you to Lisa, the lovely lady who served us dinner the night before and breakfast! Everybody felt so welcome and she really helped to set the atmosphere for the day! It was an unforgettable day and we would definitely recommend The Cedars! Can’t wait to come back!

We like staying in Old English Inns as a good value, predictable chain but I’m sorry to say that this one was a huge disappointment. Of the 3 nights we were there, 2 of the restaurant experiences were very poor mainly due to poor service which felt like it was a result of a lack of management oversight to get the bar and restaurant working together rather than the individual staff who were all doing their best, when you could find them. The Saturday night was so bad, my husband was joking with the few other diners that they were having a ‘faulty towers’ moment. Everything was terrible, from delays in drinks arriving and bottles without glasses so guests were going to the bar themselves, to starters taking 45 mins for us which was good as an hour for others and then the main courses being bad, my husbands steak was well done when he ordered medium and my chicken dish being a game of can you find any chicken tonight, but we had waited so long by then we gave up. What was really disappointing was the total lack of interest by the management when we complained at the time in the restaurant and at check-out, the one night when things were good with a different set of staff on, shows it wouldn’t take much for everything to be improved and consistently good. Rooms and breakfasts were as expected but again the servicing of them was variable over the time we were there.

We had the best day we could have hoped for celebrating our wedding at the cedars! The venue itself is beautiful and every attention to detail is made. All the staff helped us out and were absolutely fantastic in every way , ( even with us pulling our hair out at times ! ) especially Sophie the wedding organiser ( who even helped me to put on my buttonhole as I was totally incapable) and Peter the general manager who was such a breath of fresh air to work alongside with on the day. We will never forget how perfect our day was and how much fun we had ! We eat there on a regular basis as the food is incredible and the atmosphere is excellent. Everyone is warm and welcoming and it’s such a great place to go to get away from everything for a short while and really relax and enjoy yourself. We would recommend a visit to anyone! R&Z Frost
