More to explore for Israel
From Tel Aviv to Haifa, there is something for everyone to enjoy—beach resorts, historical sites, and bustling modern cities.
Israel Flights
Israel has three international airports: Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv, Ovda International Airport (VDA) in Negev, and Haifa Airport (HFA). TLV is the biggest, seeing the most flights to Israel by a wide margin, with heavy security—in some cases, as many as five different check points. In fact, TLV has the reputation of being the most secure airport in the world. It has many restaurants, currency exchanges, shops, a mother-child room, and a synagogue to make layovers between Israel flights as quick as possible. TLV is a hub for El Al, Irair Airlines, and Arkia Israel Airlines, and is a common connection for many international flights from all over the world, including JFK in New York City.
Israel Weather
Israel has four definite seasons. Winter is generally mild with temperatures in the fifties and a jacket is usually all you'll need. Spring and autumn are the mildest seasons with comfortable temperatures and rarely require more than a light jacket, if that. These are the two best times to visit and locals will argue about which time of year is best. Summer, on the other hand, is very hot and very humid, so cheaper flights to Israel might be booked during this time.
Getting Around Israel
Getting around Israel is not difficult. Foreign driver's licenses are honored up to a year, although sometimes traffic can get heavy. Other forms of transport might be preferable. Many cities like Tel Aviv are nice to walk around, provided you have a map. There are at least five different bus companies, the biggest being Egged. These buses transport people both within cities and between them quickly, comfortably, and safely, and also service those getting off Israel flights. Israel Railways is efficient and sometimes faster than automotive travel if the highways are packed. Because Israel is so small a country, the taxi services can deliver people from city-to-city. The Ministry of Tourism gladly gives out maps and guides to facilitate you visit, and are provided for Israel flight passengers arriving at TLV.
Israel Attractions
Many visitors to Israel come for religious reasons. There are many tours that are marketed to people from all religions. The area around Haifa is known for its forests and natural beauty, while Tel Aviv has a noted nightlife.
- The Old City of Jerusalem: major landmarks such as the Temple Mount are found here.
- Tel Aviv: the commercial center of Israel where you will find the Eretz Israel Museum and many others
- The Dead Sea: attracts millions of visitors a year for the minerals in its waters
- Eilat: a beach resort complete with scuba diving
- Nazareth: the legendary birthplace of Christ is also home to landmarks from Judaism and Islam
