This is the first time I stayed here. The room was clean along with the bathroom. Just a couple blocks away from the college where my daughter goes. The rating is average only because when I returned after an evening out, the front door was locked, I told the desk gal I was a guest and she told me to use the side entrance. The side entrance is not locked, ever. That worried me a bit because any Joe off the street could wander in there. After deadbolting the lock, I felt safe, slept well. I'd stay here again.
Been years since we stayed here, but it looks the same; unfortunately, nobody has figured out how to setup the WiFi! It's not rocket science, and every OTHER property we visited HAS decent service, but not Village Inn. Convenient location, .. new QT across the street, McD & grocery store also. Just be sure to test the WiFi BEFORE unpacking in the room.
it was a decent Hotel to stay, i did like my room the bed was great and bathroom is great also, close to pretty much everything theres city buses on that street and a bus stop right by the hotel, the hotel staff was helpful, this is my very first time in Iowa, i came there for the Iowa State Fair on Business and pleasure i plan to come back next year
Village Inn Motel is an older motel and they don't have the little amenities most places provide , but you can get a good nights sleep. The staff is friendly and helpful with whatever you need during your stay , however you need to bring your hair dryer , shampoo , conditioner , etc. I didn't see an ironing board or iron , so you might ask if they have them to loan out. Next door to the motel is the Village Inn Restaurant that gives you a 10 % discount while you are staying at the motel. The motel does have free wifi , however , the signal isn't great once you are in the rooms. Basically you need to sit near the entrance / front desk for it to work .
Here are the negatives: the room had a strange odor, not smoke just strange. The carpet felt dirty and gritty when you walked on it barefoot. There was no stopper in the bathroom vanity so to shave and wash up you keep the water running for rinsing. On the positive side the beds were OK, the TV was an old tube version. The ac worked ok. No elevator. Big negative - the rooms near the end don't get free internet.
This place was right for me. It was sitting next to a bus stop which enabled me to have short rides to downtown (and through their central bus depot to all other destinations) since I do not drive. The room was clean enough: tired a little, bed linen washed millions times, but clean. I was put in the room above the router room (so was I told) and the wi-fi was actually great. Some guest were noisy and slammed their doors all the time, but that it is not up to inn managers really. TV worked fine and had lots of channels.
They were very strict and wanted photo ID of my friend traveling with me. What type of clientele did they normally deal with? I felt like a drug dealer. Clerk was friendly yet not especially warm. Very by-the-book. Took some small talk to loosen her up. Room #1 smelled like smoke and lemon cleaner. NO SWING LATCHES ON THE DOORS!!!! None of the rooms i was told. Any person with a properly programmed emergency key could override the deadbolt in a heart beat. Very disconcerting. Room two only smelled of strong chemicals. No alarm clock. Ugly bedding that I didn't want to touch. Awful pillows. Plain Jane. TUBE TV! Thought I had gone back in time. But decor was not hideous and it had a quaint mixed with drug den feel. Won't be returning. Price was CHEAP so you get what you pay for.
The staff is an important part of the stay for me. They are top notch and I can't say enough good about them. Kind caring and considerate! The room is beautiful and the bed oh so comfortable! I stayed Thanksgiving and have booked for this weekend for Christmas! I will continue to stay at this fine establishment when I visit Des Moines!
I stay here twice a year and have for years. Some rooms have a fridge, microwave and coffeepot. The Village Inn Restaurant gives a 10% discount on food to guests. The non-smoking rooms truly are that, not just rooms with ashtrays removed. I am smell sensitive and require a clean room for my sensitivities, and they go above and beyond to help meet my needs. The staff is always friendly and courteous. I recommend it!
I thought it was a little expensive for what you got, the hotel is very old. Clean but very old looking and has an old smell. The staff at the front desk was very nice and check in went quick and smoothly. The bed was horrible..... it was like sleeping on the floor and the bedding was rough.
