We stayed here before and after our tour to the Kakadu. The first room we got, the whole bathroom had black mould patches everywhere. It was disgusting. There was no hot water in the shower even after running for 10 mins. The pillows had a horrible odour as did the room and aircon unit. We requested a quiet room upon booking months in advance but were given a room facing the main strip and all the pubs and bars that blast loud band music til 2-3am every night. Our second room was cleaner but still faced the strip and it was impossible to sleep well. We didn't bother complaining as all the staff we encountered didn't seem to care and were not friendly at all - polite maybe, but not customer service orientated. This place is a low quality backpacker hostel at best. Stay at your own risk.
After a long trip from Alice Springs it was a welcome relief to have the creature comforts offered here Also its positioned in the heart of the action district with lots happening Feeling safe , as the fire alarm was set off in the middle of the night and staff were prompt with getting everyone to safety.. .. a bit of unexpected excitement !
We booked to stay for 9 nights, the first night we were there, we had no hot water, we told reception and they said they would look into it, the second night still no hot water, again we went to reception, and was told again will get maintenance onto it, we were out for the day, and again still no hot water, the third time we talked to them, the said try having shower earlier, which I thought was unacceptable. The next day still no hot water,I know it is a budget hotel, but for the price I paid per night, I expect to have hot showers,We checked out on day 3, and changed hotels. Very disappointed.
This place is right in the centre of town bestled in between backpackers and bars. If you want to keep it quiet shut the windows. We had, finally, awesome customer service from the two lovely ladies on the front desk. They couldn't do enough to help us. The beds were comfy and everything you need packed into the room. You can use the laundry next door which is handy. The only downside to our stay was a 2am wake up call with a fire alarm so all the guests got to stand outside in our PJs while the fire brigade checked the building. At least we know the alarms work!
I travel all the time for work, and decided that for fun I'd test the cheapest places I could find. This is the cheapest (except backpackers) in central Darwin. Central is the word. Right on Mitchell street. Perfect location. Secure parking (although limited). Yes the rooms are TINY, but they are big enough for 3 people to sleep, have showers, watch TV and have a coffee or a beer from the fridge (byo). Honestly, the clientele are varied in appearance from business people to druggies, but my room is safe, clean and cheap. Can't complain!
This property is affiliated with the YHA next doors which is convenient in the sense you can wander over and use their cooking facilities and laundry. The rooms are simple but having spent a week camping before I arrived I was truly loving the electricity, hot powerful shower head, and the flushable toilet. My only criticism was the ridiculous amount of noise which filtered up from the street. Even with both windows closed and my ipod playing at half volume in my ears I could still audibly make out a DJ from somewhere down the road, name the title and artist of every song he played, and clearly hear people singing along. Perhaps it was my poor timing in the sense I stayed over a long weekend, but if you're looking for somewhere quiet I wouldn't recommend this property.
Great location in the middle of town close to most shops and restaurants, room was clean and tidy, staff were friendly and helpful. car park was secured over night, making it a drama if you wanted to drive in at night as the gates get locked, good for security, but bad for car park usage, they should have remote gates if they are going to be locked.
The Value Inn is a basic, budget option for accommodation in Darwin. The rooms are compact and a bit run down, but comfortable enough if you don't mind stepping over your luggage to get to bed. The bathrooms are old and cramped but everything works, except for when the hot water runs out. You can use the facilities of the YHA next door, so you get the benefits of access to a kitchen, laundry and bar, then you can retreat to the quiet side when you return to your room. You can choose between the quiet pool or the crowded pool next door, too. We spent a few days in the Value Inn and a few in the Hilton and, really, the Value Inn was just as fun at less than half the price.
I often stay here when in town, as the staff are helpful, and everything is near. you have Coles over the road and many good food outlets, even a wide choice for a drinking places, coffee to alcohol! It is good for the price.
I was glad we only booked this place one night. I would definitely recommend paying a bit more to stay somewhere nicer. The hotel was cheap in cost, but it sure felt like it was. On one of the beds, there was a mysterious black crumbly substance all over the pillow. My husband saw a cockroach climb from that bed onto the wall and under the bed. In addition, the walls are thin so it was easy to hear everything going on outside the room. It had the feel of a dingy hostel. No wifi included. The location is good, but I'd trade that in a heartbeat for a better, cleaner place.
