Based on the reviews of others we decided to go with an independent hotel on this particular trip to Coventry and not the usual Premier Inn. However we would not go back unless we knew the place had been updated. There was no member of staff on reception and several rings of the bell didn't bring anyone, so we went in search of one. Our room 24 was "ok" but paintwork was filthy and worse was in the bathroom. Black mould all over the ceiling and the sealant around the bath black. I didn't feel able to use it sadly. The loo however was clean. The wifi was pretty good and the staff we met friendly, although no one asked us about our stay, had the done I would have politely explained my disappointment in the bathroom. As we had a family room I didn't think a swap would be possible and it was 8pm when we checked in. In the morning we didn't feel confident in the hygiene of the place to have breakfast there, it may well have been ok, but we opted for the nearby McDonalds! The bed linen was clean and bed quite comfy.
Recently had a family meal here and stayed over for the night. The staff were very helpful and having told them it was a birthday celebration decorated the table for us, took delivery of presents and helped every way they could, cannot recommend them more highly and the food was lovely too. The rooms however were tired, although very clean, so OK to stay in but no more than that. One of our party did stay in a modernised room and were very happy so if you could guarantee one of these rooms then I would definitely recommend.
Stayed here with family to visit my son at University and it looked really nice on the website and resonably priced. We wanted a vintage like hotel and have a treat at the same time. It was welcoming and nice at first, and made our way to the first floor where our room was in 22. Our first impressions were that they were in the middle of a refurb so there was mess everywhere. With dirty bedding and towels all over the place outside our room. We noticed towels outside peoples rooms on the carpet which wasnt hygenic! The room was large but the single bed was filthy underneath that smelt like a greasy old man! The toilet and toilet roll looked like it had been used, and stains all over the carpet! The beds looked like it had been made by a 5 yr old and not clean at all with holes in it, flat pillows and the head board had grease or dust stains around it aswell as the ceiling. My sister put her arm down the side of the corner chair and straight in to a cob web!!!!! Bathroom needed updating and floor was sticky. No bathmats and body wash that had been used previously in the holder! We did notice a smell and after a good look turns out it was the toilet brush holder full of smelly water! ( hate to think what that was!) Breakfast was nice, staff was friendly but the chairs and floor were filthy. Had food stains on it and the floor had the previous nights party confections still littered everywhere. Garden looked nice but couldnt go out because of the weather. Overall, could be a nice place but the rooms and hygene was terrible. Went across the road for food just to be safe.
I celebrated my 50th birthday here in July Everything was perfect sat outside in the garden on arrival The staff made us really welcome the food was fantastic everyone enjoyed the afternoon and we will be back again soon Thanks to all the staff

We have just enjoyed a small wedding reception at the Jacobean hotel Coventry We could not fault the attention to detail ,the help and service we received. The food was very good . We were offered a great choice on the menu catering for all ages and tastes . Starters were very good , main courses were hot ,tasty and very well presented. Deserts were delicious. The staff could not have more helpful. A great deal of effort was put into making the room look special for a wedding reception. We will certainly be going back to try the afternoon teas and Sunday lunches.
We arrived and got off to a false start, had to wait for a member of staff to check us in and given the wrong room number but not a major issue We got to our room (20) which was nice and clean and modern but with a quaint feel, we had a view of the green area and the room was quite, and had all that we needed. The bed and furniture was nice , although I would say the mattress could be firmer but this is a subjective issue , I still slept well undisturbed. All in all we have both said we would stay again happily, I have paid the same amount to stay at less desirable places so great value for money Thank you
