Disappointing for us - the website made it look and sound quite good - the actual experience for us was far less enjoyable. The rooms and facilities are in need of refurbishment; minimalistic would be a fair expression; tough going upstairs lugging a full set of suitcases; the dining room for evening meal (bar/lounge) was good and the food was good and the 'host' was very helpful; the breakfast - once we took a very long walk within the facility to find the breakfast room - was very good and again the staff were friendly. Location was difficult to get to and right on a manin highway with traffic noise apparent.
I stayed here for one night before flying home after a week of travelling in Ireland. My room was spacious, clean and confortable. Two people would have been more then happy in there. The bathroom was great and the shower was powerful if not a little lukewarm. The TV channels were fuzzy but that wasn't an issue for me as I didn't need to use it! Staff were friendly and answered any questions I had. Breakfast was average but it was included in my room price so it was nice not to have to worry about it in the morning! Only thing I didn't realise was how far out from the centre of Cork it was. However there is a bus stop right outside that gets you there in 15 minutes which was very helpful!
After driven from Killarney, the sat-nats ( both stand alone and the built in on rented car) decided to send us on a tour of Cork city before leading us to the hotel. I could have easily driven pass it without realising it is there. The rooms were very basic and are in need of updating. I supposed the bulk of clients are of passing trade as a stop over night. The bathroom was reasonable but the shower was very slippery and dangerous without grip rails especially with slow draining soapy water. Her in-door was not exactly happy when she slipped coming out of the shower as there was not a bath mat inside. We had a choice of 3 beds as the room was capable of catering for a family of 5. The lighting in the room was 2D fluorescent wall light making it a limited uncomfortable reading or using tablets. The bed side table was a piece of contiboard attached to the wall with two metal brackets, so dare not to put anything heavy on it. One of the 2D lights flicking after being left on for around 2 minutes. The beds were not comfortable for 2 people to sleep on. Breakfast in the morning was a distance affair as one needed to walk to the far side restaurant which felt like a long way away. At least it was waitress service and the food itself were not bad. The plus side of the hotel, it was easy to get into Cork centre and a short drive to the wonderful Blarney Castle.
The Commons is clean and has comfortable beds. Friendly staff at reception and in the bar & restaurant areas. Made great suggestions as to where to go and what to do in the area. Free parking and wifi
Thankfully we only stayed one night. The room was less than basic, just a box with a bed and a table. The bathroom was a disabled bathroom, hence the shower was to low, unless you sat on the seat. Recently painted, you could tell by the bits they missed, but the bathroom was a disgrace, rust on the walls where the metal wall corner strips were corroded and generally poor. We pre-booked an evening meal which was not to bad but overpriced even with the discount. Breakfast was served a route march away from the rooms, again not to bad. Overall, based on our experience, I couldn't recommend this hotel
Thank you to Ashley and all the team at the hotel After my brother had a motorcycle accident and was air lifted to Cork University hospital I managed to book quickly and easily through booking.com After a quick call with Ashley she managed to arrange two rooms for us and helped us over the week by letting us add day after day so we could be close to my brother Thank oh so very much for your understanding and help over these very difficult days The welcome was warm and friendly All the staff in the bar, hotel and breakfast area were amazing This is one for our diaries and we will be back Great for motorcyclists as a stop over on the way through bikes are parked next to reception and secure Food great Staff great Thanks Paul
So as per booking.com it was called the national commons inn hotel, however you will notice it is called the commons express inn now. The Reception is in an odd location the far corner of the hotel to the entrance. We arrived a bit early so we checked inn and came back once our room was sorted. The room itself was huge, two double beds (only 1 double was booked), it was a very basic room with no wardrobe just a rail and hangers for clothes. the bathroom was small with just the shower and only all over body wash provided (no separate shampoo and shower gel). I asked for an ironing board and iron to be brought to the room, it was done promptly, however once erected it was a very battered board by no means flat an very wobbly, I just managed to iron my shirt on it. We had breakfast the first morning (€10 charge as it was not included). I had the french toast....it was just ok, I would not have it again. The continental table was small considering the size of the dining hall, with basic cereals and yogurts with stale croissants. I know the hotel is within 10/15minutes drive of the city but for the price we paid per night I would have expected a lot more. I will not be returning here.
We stayed here for one night as we were travelling from Dublin to Cork and then to the Blarney Castle. Location was great! Very close to Blarney Castle. The rooms were clean and spacious, nothing fancy, but nice. Breakfast was really good. Buffet of breads, pastries and cereals and it also included an Irish Breakfast. We were also grateful that the manager helped us out to get our tolls paid for the M50 around Dublin! We tried getting them paid at a couple gas stations close by, but their machines were down, so the manager had the front desk go online and they were able to get it taken care of! If you need a place to stay that's close to Blarney Castle, I would recommend this hotel!
Arrived Fri afternoon early May. Got to room and was overwhelmed by disgusting smell emanating from the drains in the bathroom. This nauseating stench is in all the toilets in the hotel. My room had no remote control for the T.V.; no plug for the sink. GOT remote next day, and the sink plug on the Monday. Alas the plug was a bath plug;---too big for the sink On the plus side, staff brilliant and food very good
My wife and I recently stayed here on our honeymoon in Ireland. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. The room although a bit dated was clean and nice and it was a quick easy 10 minute drive to cork city center. While staying a gentleman claimed to have lost his key and provided our number to the front desk. This prompted a lovely and shocking surprise when my wife and I were greeted by a man with a perfectly functioning key entering our room at approximately 10:30 pm at night. Now this could have all been a terrible mix up but nonetheless a huge security flaw. To provide an example I recently had a friend who had this exact circumstance happen at a different hotel however he wasn't there and the person prompted to steal every single thing in his room; Laptop, cameras, clothes, souvenirs. I only wonder what might have happened if we weren't there.
