I booked the hotel during a business trip for a one night stay. Location = Best - If you want to go out for a drink you will find plenty of opportunities in the Belgium quarter/district ("Belgische Viertel") the hotel is located. Rooms = Average - They are functional, but a bit dated (could use a little renovation). AND despite the fact that we had a courtyard room, it was pretty noisy over night - some neighbours enjoyed the warm night on their balcony Service = OK for the basics, but not really forthcoming when asked if rooms are ready before 15:00 ("definitely not now - call back later, then maybe")
Nice enough place, friendly staff, a half our walk from the main station. Rooms very well appointed but without the character the hotel website would lead you to think. Reasonable value for money. A few issues though: Very little sound insulation and thin curtains. Ear plugs and (if you are going in the summer and don't want to be woken by the sunlight) eye mask recommended. Restaurant was closed. Sauna is in a dingy basement, and is only switched on upon request, (at a small extra charge). Exercise equipment basic.
We needed a last minute place to stay on our way from Amsterdam to Mainz for a sales congres, so browsing the old inter web we found this affordable hotel near the center of Cologne which looked quite nice so we booked! We arrived late Thursday evening and checked in at the reception. The Hotel is a hip sort of place in a upcoming neighborhood with lots of nice bars and restaurants. The adjacent Hotel bar/restaurant was quite disappointing as it was already closing at 22:30 on a Thursday and they would not serve us anything.. As we had seen several other bars we did not care that much and got a local draft elsewhere and upon our return we crashed in our very nice, be it somewhat basic and small room with good equipped but very small beds.. but for just one night it will suffice.. would definitely come back to Cologne for a longer stay but would book a bigger room.
Awful service. The hotel is nice and stylish, the rooms are quite spacious and the breakfasts is decent. But the service is just awful. The TV in my room didn't work and when I called reception the lady sighed and told me that is "normal". Then -in a tone of voice as if she was offering me a personal favor- she offered to come to my room and " rattle the TV set a bit" because it had a lose cable. Only she never showed up. Next, the Internet access (WiFi) was interrupted and I was asked for a new password. Again the same receptionist ( she sighed again) doubted that this was the case but was " generous " enough to offer me that I could come down to the reception and show her the problem. I asked her to come to my room instead. She said she would do so after contacting the network administrator. Only she never showed up. On my way out of the hotel I told the receptionist how unsatisfactory her service was and that I needed the Internet for work. She "remembered" that she received a mail from IT with a new password - four hours ago. Did she at least apologize? No she didn't. I'll never stay in this hotel again.
Turned up nicely welcomed and possibility to park car in basement was well appreciated. No internet access in the room though. Also shower was broken making it very difficult to shower in the morning. Shame as these things really detracted from the stay.
Stayed for one night. The room is very spartan, however think the design is this way. When approaching the parking garage it a bit challenging to park as you first should have obtaind a parking card. In order to get this you have to go back via a very narrow corridor (cannot turn around) with bends. So left the car standing and blocked the area whilst getting the card..sorry! It was 21.00 hrs in the evening and the restaurant looks really nice however I very rudely informed that they have no option to eat - the whole bar area was empty and could have had easily some food. Instead I was 'suggested' to just go outside. This is first time ever for me and believe that hotel guests should not be treated like this. Will not stay here again!
We stayed in the hotel for a couple of nights - it was a warm tme of year and unfortunately the hotel doesn't have air-con. Its a pity because while they did provide huge and powerful fans it wasn't quite as effective But everything else was really very good. The rooms are spartan but stylish in a very positive way. The staff are really helpful. The breakfast is exceptionally good - great omelettes made to order. And it couldn't be a better location very near public transport
This is a very nice and well located charming hotel, at the Belgium Square of Köln. Room was spacious and nice. The only critique would be the working table of the room, that is just enough even for laptop and nothing else.
This used to be a monastery and the building has character. The room I was in was clean and spacious, with a decent bathroom. Breakfast (in the summer) was served in a pleasant outside courtyard. The furniture in the room was fairly basic, with a tiny sloping shelf as a desk. Just about big enough for a laptop if you don't mind it sliding off and hitting the floor. The main drawback on my visit was the lack of air-conditioning. The temperature in Cologne on my visit was 37 degrees and all the talk at breakfast was about how nobody could sleep because of the heat in the rooms. It felt like trying to sleep inside a nuclear reactor. But most of the year this wouldn't be a problem.
The hotel staff is friendly, the variety of food for breakfast is excellent and the rooms, although not large, have everything that is necessary for a comfortable stay. There were enough electrical outlets and the shower was wonderful.
