I arrived at around 11:00 PM to check in for my room, I entered the reception area and there was no one there. I rang the bell on the desk, I called the hotel phone number, The phone was ringing infront of me but there was no one on the desk to answer. I stayed on this for more than 15 minutes, the room keys were all hung infront of me, I (or anyone else) could simply take any key and get into any room. After 15 minutes a man came, I asked him that I don’t want the room anymore because I don’t feel safe if he leaves the reception and the room keys infront of everyone. He called his manager to talk to us since he doesn’t even understand english, the manager asked me to leave the hotel. I asked expedia to refund but they didn’t, since they need to get the hotel approvement but the receptionist couldn’t communicate In English with them, I was lucky enough to have a friend with me who speaks German (we have recorded the whole conversation with the receptionist) I ended up booking a room in another hotel and paid twice for the same night. Until now I was not refunded my money back.

Be aware of bed bugs at this hotel and be ready to deal with unresponsive manager! My family stayed this hotel for 2 nights right before Christmas and all of us got loads of bites during our stay. At first night, we were not sure about what those bites are and we started the research. After the 2nd night, we got a lot more bites and got up during the middle of the nights and found multiple bed bugs on the beds. We mentioned this to the one of the staff and he assured us that the manager would refund our entire costs because of the experiences. Then nightmare started. I didn’t hear anyone so I started sending emails and called the hotels at least every other days. In the very beginning, the manager said due to holidays and international bank bank transactions, he will need couple days to refund the money. Then he stopped responding emails and not picking up the phone anymore. I have all the email threads and pictures as proof and I am asking Expedia to investigate this hotel and let other guests know the condition of the hotel. Please avoid this hotel if you could!

Great location. Very clean, warm and central. Next to central station but you can’t hear road or trains as the double glazing windows are superb! Lovely reception staff, excellent new beds. 1st floor new, rest being renovated however showers, TV and safe was all very good. Hair & body wash was very nice & my hair was conditioned too. Other guests could be heard but no one was noisy so slept like a log in complete silence. Huge windows and really warm for January weather. Staff reception and management were wonderful. Worth the 3 stars!

Great service, very friendly and thoughtful staff. Easy check in to boot. The location is good if you want to be somewhat close to the Cathedral, Christmas Markets and the Ursula church but it is not in the nicest area. The property itself is dated but the rooms are not uncomfortable.

Warm & Welcoming Staff! Recommended!

We booked to stay at the CityMax last minute, after a long early morning journey we just wanted to sit down. The hotel receptionist couldn't of been more welcoming, although the check in time wasn't for another 2 hours they invited us to sit in the comfy bar area until the room was ready and allowed an early check in! The room was clean, the bed was comfy. The shower had great pressure and temperature (unlike some other places we've stayed). All in all it was a great stay, mostly because of the warm and welcoming staff!

Close to Cologne Bahnhoff but it is old and outdated. Linen was dusty upon laying on the bed. Shower curtains were moldy and after taking a shower, it's wet all over the floor. Price was too much for a below budget hotel. Staff were friendly. Check-in and check-out were quick.

Central location,clean, good shower and toilet, good size room for solo female traveller. Hotel located near other hotel chains such as Hilton, I feel very safe walking around the area. 6-7min walk to cathedral and cologne centre station. Great value for money. Only downside is bed too soft
