This hotel is a work in progress. The current proprietor has occupied the property for a few months. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. They are working to bring the hotel up to a higher standard. It's a little rough at the edges. The location is good and the surrounding area feels safe. They have ample self parking. Immediately next door is a gas station/7 eleven. Within 1 block is a Wendy's. Approximately 3 blocks in the other direction is a Starbucks, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Portillo's, Jimmy John's, and a liquor store. I didn't try the breakfast. They are planning to staff the restaurant and bar sometime in the future. The indoor swimming pool was dry during my visit. The hotel is quiet and comfortable. I had difficulty finding their airport shuttle when I arrived at O'Hare. They are using a minivan with very small signage so be aware if you are planning to use it. I will stay there again when I visit Chicago. The nightly rate is competitive.

The airport shuttle was impossible to find as it was not labeled Grand Royal. I called the desk from the airport 9 times! No one answered. I took an Uber instead. The front desk person was frazzled. He gave me a room that was not yet cleaned. Housekeeping was nearby and very helpful. They told the front desk person to move me to a room they just cleaned. They let me in.

This place is completely run down and very dirty. Closet doors were missing, the shower was filthy as were the walls in the bathroom. The staff at the front desk were very nice...that was about the only good thing.

It took one hr for shuttle. No Wi-Fi all night in room. No pool no restaurant. The night manager Jack was very nice to us. There was not a sign that said Grand Royal. It says Holiday Inn. Don’t be fooled like we were. Very disappointed.

I tried to call hotel to get their airport shuttle five times. No one answered. Took a cab arrived at hotel the girl was talking nonstop on phone with a friend (on speaker phone). She didn’t even look at us and handed us key. Checked into room and one of the beds looked like there was a “frolic” and bathroom had not been cleaned. Got another room (girl just handed us key..,didn’t look at us again. Room was ok. Got up to go to advertised breakfast (a couple of quick stop danish….no coffee.). Went to checkout and guy just said throw key in basket. We proceeded to catch”airport shuttle”. Two families with about 8 bags were ahead of us. “Shuttle” showed up….it was a Toyota Sienna that after filling with bags could only take two passengers. We chose to take another $30 cab back to airport. Worst hotel experience ever!

They do have an airport shuttle which is a minivan. The shuttle driver was very kind and helpful. The front desk staff was kind. For the amount we paid the hotel could have been in better condition. The pool was empty so we couldn’t swim. The paint/wallpaper was peeling off the walls. The bathroom doors were warped, had bubbling paint and the corner of the door was bent upward. The overall upkeep of the hotel was in bad condition. Definitely not what you expect when you pay almost $400 for a stay. I wouldn’t stay here again for the price I paid. I would expect the conditions of this hotel from a cheap motel.

Comfy stay for a work trip weekend

It was great, check in was quick and easy, the elevator was a little intimidating so I defaulted to the stairs. I’ve stayed in this hotel twice now but it’s very comfortable just unrenovated so don’t expect it to be luxurious but the water stays hot, the room was clean enough, the bed was comfy, and the AC worked that’s all I need on a business trip where the only thing I’m doing in the room is primarily sleeping anyways.

On arrival the member of staff who would not get off her cell phone could not find my reservation. Then when she did, she tried to tell me i had a double room booked. I said no i have a king suite. After a few minutes she confirmed that. Gave me the room cards and i went to see the room. I looked in an it was a box room with a king bed inside. Nothing like i had paid for or reserved.i went back to reception where the girl continued to use her phone on a call and then she gave me another room. I went to see that, walked all the way up there and the keys wouldn't work. I walked all the way downstairs again, told this rude girl the keys were not working and she re did them.. Again, she still would not get off her cell. I went back to the room and i was appalled by the room. There were wires coming out from the AC unit. The room looked and smelled dirty, musty. I went into the bathroom and i was greeted by the ceiling peeling off with mold and what appered to be a flood causing it from the room above. The toilet was broken and more wires coming out from the wall. I went back downstairs and i told the girl i would not be staying in that. She told me we would get a refund for the booking. Good as this place is a zham, a pit of dirt. The so called pool area is closed for maintenance, looks like it has been for years. Broken windows, Amazon boxes everywhere and Christmas stuff being stored. How plp say this place is nice is beyond my comprehension.
