Bishops Hall is a beautiful century old home in Oak Park’s historic district. I’ve had the pleasure of staying there twice and both times were very enjoyable. Charles is a gracious and welcoming host, and the breakfasts are terrific. The house is elegant, and its antique furniture and decorations make it seem more like a museum than a B&B. If you’re looking for a unique place to spend a tranquil weekend, I’d encourage you to try Bishops Hall, I guarantee you’ll have a wonderful experience.
Didn't stay in the b & b. Went there for a cocktail reception.... just perfect space! It is a spacious, gracious Oak Park home. Will keep b n b in mind for future out of town guests. Homeowner and a staff person were around discreetly keeping an eye on things.
My significant other and I were only there for 1 night (unfortunately) but we would love to go back. They upgraded our room when we arrived, although we were able to see a few others and they all looked nice. The breakfast was delicious and hit the spot after a night around Chicago. Location was nice to see some of the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. All in all, a unique, beautiful house with affordable lodging and wonderful staff. Not a bad word to say about it.
My husband and I visited Chicago for a long weekend at the beginning of December. We decided to stay in Oak Park so we could be close to the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum and houses. I wanted historic, classic accommodation within walking distance to the FLW sites and chose Bishop's Hall for its history, elegance and grace (as far as I could determine from the website and reviews). Bishop's Hall exceeded my expectations in every way. It is beautiful, storied, gracious and comfortable. Charles is a very capable and engaging host. We enjoyed our brunch discussions with him very much and the food was just wonderful. I enjoyed reading each morning in the library while my husband slept in, content with several cups of delicious coffee, the snow gently falling outside and the laughter of other guests enjoying their breakfast in the dining room. We enjoyed our sherry on our first night and had wonderful, relaxing sleeps in the beautifully appointed Tartan Room. (All the rooms are stunning!) Bishops Hall is very conveniently located for driving pretty much anywhere and is very close to the main streets of Oak Park. There is off-street parking as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already planning a return visit in late spring!
Only stayed one night, but had a very good experience--nice bed, large breakfast, and a nice stiff drink after a long frustrating drive to the Chicago area. I was in the Tartan Room, which I highly recommend with its large bathroom and separate dressing room.
This is an exquisite home in historic Oak Park, IL, a close suburb of Chicago. It's just around the corner from the Frank Lloyd Wright home and workshop and near to Ernest Hemmingway's home. Everywhere you look there is something interesting. The rooms are comfortable and the host, Charles is friendly and very accommodating. Many of his clients are repeat customers because of the homey feel and experience. The home is a large Georgian style residence that used to be long to the Orthodox Bishop, hence the name. It is close to public transportation into the city (Bus and commuter train.) and also O'Hare airport. If you're looking for a very pleasant experience and would rather avoid the large and expensive hotels, give this a try. Bishops Hall books up quickly so plan ahead!
Stunning home in a beautiful and quiet setting. Our host took great care of us. Breakfast was delicious and it is served in a very charming setting. Our rooms were stunning and comfortable. The immediate Oak Park neighborhood is beautiful and within walking distance to many Frank Lloyd Wright homes.
Our second trip to Bishops Hall was not for a wedding, but a funeral. We were deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our sister. We booked the B & B with family and it gave us quiet space for remembrance. It is so peaceful and refined. We love the adults only atmosphere. Charles was compassionate and accommodating. Perfect!
I recently stayed here and it was so beautiful and elegant. The host, Charles, is very accommodating and charming. The home used to belong to the orthodox bishop, hence the name. Everywhere you look is beauty, gorgeous furniture, priceless artifacts and artwork. I stayed in the blue room and the shower (also a steam shower) is larger than my entire bathroom at home! The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. Breakfast was wonderful, served on elegant china. The first day (Sunday) the host took us to Hemmingway Bistro for breakfast because we were going to go to mass and he wouldn't have to clean up before we left. It was very nice and relaxing. The guests I met there were very nice and interesting people. The rate is very reasonable for what you receive. Only a short drive or train ride to downtown Chicago and not the parking hassles or chain hotel feel of most downtown hotels. If you're looking for a unique stay, this is it!
Our stay at Bishops Hall was like staying in a museum. Everything about the decor was unbelievable and the breakfast served in the breakfast room was the best ever. Served by Donna who was very friendly and made us feel like we were important guests. The bed was very comfortable and the location with the on site parking was exactly what we were looking for. It was a beautiful day to stroll the neighborhood and admire the beautiful well kept homes. My only disappointment was that there was no shower in our bathroom. We had the Yellow room so keep that in mind when choosing a room.
