Puerto Vallarta is a Mexican city located on the Pacific Ocean that is home to a number of popular resorts. The area contains several tropical beaches and a consistently warm climate that attracts a large number of tourists each year. You can book an available seat on flights to Vallarta using Orbitz.com to make reservations for airlines and hotel accommodations in the many hotels scattered throughout the area as well.
Puerto Vallarta is serviced by the Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport, located at AP 44A, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Travel from the airport to the resorts located throughout the area is easy, as the airport is only about 3 miles from the center of the city. Transport is provided by taxi, with a set rate of 260 pesos for the 10-minute trip into town, or by local bus service for a price of 20 pesos.
The best time to travel to Puerto Vallarta is during the months of April to June. The weather is subtropical, with high temperatures averaging in the upper 80-degree-Fahrenheit range. Light clothing is sufficient for wear year-round, with a light sweater or jacket recommended for cooler nights when temperatures may fall into the 70s. Visitors to the area should find plenty of available attractions, both at the resorts and in the surrounding area. Along with shopping in the downtown area, where you can find a variety of small shops and art galleries, there are multiple golf courses, boat rentals at the marina for sailing or fishing and several beaches where you can spend a relaxing day. You'll also find a number of enjoyable events, from the annual Festival Cultural and the Puerto Vallarta International Sports Classic in May to the Puerto Vallarta Gourmet Festival in November.
Puerto Vallarta is an enjoyable vacation location where the beautiful climate allows for long relaxing days that you can fill with anything from sailing and golfing to simply relaxing on the beach. Travel to the region is easy to arrange, using Orbitz.com to make reservations on the many flights to Vallarta that are available on a daily basis, allowing you to schedule your vacation for the time of year that suits you best.
Sharing the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, Puerto Vallarta basks in a consistent subtropical climate. The rainy season runs from June through September. During this time, it may rain almost daily, though showers are primarily in the late afternoon or evening. Temperatures reach 90 degrees during the summer, as compared to the mid-80s in the winter.
As peak season (November to April) rolls around, fetes like the International Gourmet Festival bring in the masses and cause prices to shoot up. But if you’re an avid foodie, it’s well worth it to savor the fare with other epicureans. This ten-day culinary fest showcases some 20 international guest chefs who join local chefs in presenting winemaker dinners, cooking classes, and tequila pairings.
There’s also Art Walk season, which runs from the last Wednesday in October through the last Wednesday in May. Wander from gallery to gallery with libations in hand to chat with the artists and peruse all genres of paintings. Since all Art Walk participating galleries are situated in Centro Historico, strolling from one to another is a breeze.
To avoid the bustle and get more bang for your vacation buck, consider May or October. The weather is pleasant, businesses are open but not jam-packed, and discounted rates are available at most hotels.
Other celebrations include the Vallarta Wine Festival and Puerto Vallarta Regatta in February, the Nautical Festival and Banderas Bay Regatta in March, San Sebastian Cultural Weekend and Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Week in May, Dia de Charro and Mexican Independence Day in September, Dia de la Revolucion in November, and the Fiesta de Guadeloupe and Puerto Vallarta Film Festival in December.
