We stayed at The Arts Hotel in Charlottetown Oct 4th and, while the rooms were clean, we were surprised to find there was no TV, no fridge, no phones, etc —basically nothing in the room besides the basics. It was fine for a short stay, but very minimal. What really bothered us was the lounge area. On the morning of October 4th, there were men sleeping in there with clothes and belongings sprawled everywhere. It was honestly uncomfortable and unwelcoming — we couldn’t even grab a coffee. We mentioned it to the front desk, and the staff just said, “Yeah, we’re aware,” which didn’t feel very reassuring. Glad my boyfriend was with me during this stay. The location is great, and the ladies at the front check in on Oct 3 were so accommodating and friendly — they even let us check in early, which we appreciated

Amenities in a common room, not your hotel room

There is a bar directly below the back of house rooms, and it is LOUD, so if you want to sleep before 2 am, ask for a room in the front of the hotel. They were very good about moving us. The music was so loud it reverberated in our first room, but when they moved us, we couldn't hear noise. The other things to know are: the TV, refrigerator and coffee (at a cost) are in a common room. The rooms are newly renovated, but don't have those amenities. The hotel has no parking. We paid 8.75 for a parkade that was a couple of minutes walk away. Staff was very courteous and helpful.

The front desk staff was very friendly. Parking is available in a garage lot right behind the hotel, was about 8 dollars for the night. The room was clean and comfortable, lacking a tv but this is described in the listing. I stayed on a Thursday night. When I booked I got a message from the hotel indicating that they have shows on the main floor that can be noisy in the evenings. I was on the 3rd floor and could very clearly hear the drumming from the venue. However, I was warned about this before my visit and was able to cancel if I so chose, so no foul there.

Toilettendeckel war locker, am Kopfende hing ein Kabel locker herunter. Es wird zwar sehr wenig Service angeboten, aber man sollte sich die Zimmer vor dem Vermieten doch einmal anschauen. Wir wollten die Waschmöglichkeiten in der Unterkunft nutzen, dies gestaltete sich sehr schwierig. Es hiess, dass auch Waschmittel vorhanden ist und auch genutzt werden kann. Als wir es nutzen wollten, war jedoch kein Waschmittel vorhanden. Von der Rezeption hiess es nur, dass dies durch eine Drittfirma gestellt wird und dass man sich halt das Waschmittel im Supermarkt kaufen muss. Das geht gar nicht. Ich kann nicht einen Service im Hause anbieten, den man nicht nutzen kann, weil ein Drittanbieter nicht richtig arbeitet. Dafür ist das Haus verantwortlich, das muss schauen, dass die Möglichkeiten im Hause auch nutzbar sind, auch von Drittanbietern. Auch scheint die Arbeitsmoral nicht die beste zu sein. In einer Stunde bin ich fünf mal der Putzfrau begegnet und fünf mal war sie mit ihrem Handy beschäftigt. In dem Haus scheint es ein Problem mit Service, Kontrolle bzw. Aufsicht der notwendigen Arbeiten zu geben. Daher war der Aufenthaltsraum, der von allen genutzt wird morgens auchsehr verdreckt. Auch das geht überhaupt nicht. Räume, die von so vielen Menschen genutzt werden, sollten mehrmals am Tag kontrolliert und natürlich auch gereinigt werden. Sonst geht das halt nicht. Von daher Preis - Leistung ist hier nicht gegeben. Auch wenn das Personal am Empfang immer sehr freundlich und bemüht war.

The Arts Hotel offers a different concept from a typical hotel room. Rooms have minimalist decor and are very small, but well designed. In the bedroom area there is a desk and chair, and a few hooks but no closet. Use the drawers under the bed to stow your suitcase. The bathroom shower door covers just the front of the shower, similar to showers seen in France. This is why there is another drain in the middle of the bathroom floor. The shower shares a wall with the main room. This is a VERY small room, but compared to an overnight cabin on a ferry or a train, there is plenty of space. There is a large common area on the 2nd floor with television, couches, tables, a sink, microwave, toaster, coffee machine and fridge. Behind that room is a laundry room. The active neighborhood has many restaurants and people out enjoying the evening.
The bed is easy to access from one side, but the other side is very close to the wall.
The opaque shower wall doubles as a wall by the desk.
The deluxe shower has a second shower head on the ceiling.
