Residence Inn Charlotte South at Interstate 77/Tyvola Road

Recent guest reviews

We recently stayed at this Residence Inn for one night as it was close to Carowinds. It was available for a very reasonable rate on Marriott's own website. My initial opinion of the overall property can best be described as seedy. When we arrived around 11:00 PM, there were a few shady characters lurking around the parking lot. There was also a person in the parking lot next to our room working under their car with a spotlight (with tools all over the place). I felt like I had entered into the twilight zone. It was just one of those hotels where you just get a bad feeling as soon as you arrive. Thankfully, the room seemed to be fine and worth the rate that we paid. Although it was clearly showing some age, it was ok. I did run out of hot water towards the end of my shower. I doubt that I would ever return to this property if we are back in the Charlotte area.

If you are staying in the area for an extended period of time, this is the place to stay! The staff is incredible and is willing to do anything and everything in their power to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. Definitely will be visiting again in the future!

As other reviews have already noted, this hotel is poorly maintained. The initial room we were given had a large hole in the sofa and was dark and dingy. The staff were very helpful in moving us to a larger room, but that one was equally bad - peeling wallpaper, broken towel rack, holes in the outside wooden landings, peanut shells on the outside steps. The suite we stayed in was large, but the entire downstairs was virtually empty - as if they'd removed the furniture for some reason and forgot to replace it. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

We stayed here just one night before catching a flight out of CLT. Rooms are new, spacious, and clean. Kitchenette is perfect if you are staying a few days. Staff is friendly and helpful. Only downside was that we reserved a ride with their shuttle to the airport in the morning, but the hotel double-booked the shuttle. We ended up having to catch a taxi.

This should not even carry the Marriott name. It's so old you can't tell if it's clean. My husband and I had reservations here at the Residence brand because we prefer the larger rooms and the firmer beds. The room was not larger and the bed was a marshmallow! After 12hours on the road this was an insult and we were too exhausted to look for something else. Stay away. Even though the Manager offered us 1/2 off the room rate-it wasn't worth it!

This is a pretty utilitarian spot, but it checks all the boxes for a business stay. Convenient to I-77, uptown Charlotte and the Southpark area, and several places to dine are nearby. The room could use upgrades--the furnishings, appliances, etc. are dated, but it was clean, and staff is very friendly and helpful.

Courtney. From the time I checked in to the day I checked out, Courtney was amazing. Friendly, always remembered my name, asking me how everything was and making sure everything was fine. Even delivering a "welcome" basket to my room. I can't tell you how appreciative I was of that basket when I got back to my room after a long day working. Courtney knows how to make a Rewards member feel special. Tim was also very nice & attentive. Quiet, comfortable and clean. Housekeeping is very attentive. I will definitely stay here again when in Charlotte.

Special thanks to Front Office Supervisor Ahmed Badr for getting us in at such short notice (and with a most appreciated Marriott upgrade) -- but it went downhill when we tried using the internet and streaming on the TV. Mind you, this was what they call Building 11 (the 3-story complex behind the familiar 2-story Residence Inn layouts). Perhaps our location was the culprit, so maybe ask ahead if being online is important to you. Back where we were it was useless and beyond frustrating. As for the rest of it, this is quite a special place -- from the phone call once you are in your room to check on things, the evening Snack Bag brought right to your room and the extra 1,000 Marriott Rewards points for being a "valued guest." The fitness room is miniscule, but it does have free weights and a bench! The breakfast room is snug, but everything you could want is there. Too bad about that internet in Building 11. Again, a really awesome staff!

I'm comfortable and the staff are very nice and will do whatever to you comfortable 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 And it's near malls and dinners and the highway, about five miles from downtown Charlotte and it gives me a feeling of living in an apartment😎😎😎😎Happy Camper

It would be a five star if the decor was updated and the property in better condition. It is clean, comfortable and has lots of nice perks and it's pretty convenient to a lot of places, just minutes to Uptown, the airport, South Park and Rock Hill. The Customer service is probably the best I've ever had in many years of extensive travel. I'm not exaggerating! The nice personal touches like the snack bags, the evening receptions, the free breakfast and the warm greetings make guests feel like VIPs. The rooms are well laid-out, but cracked tiles, old commodes, scratched fixtures, a broken phone and other minor pieces hurt the overall experience, but it's still a very good property.

Hotel is very convenient to the highway, but that also makes the rooms on the highway side very noisy. We have a dog and the dog area is so small it's almost useless.

southern hospitality for sure!

Great staff and amenities. The only reason they are not top boxed on everything is because, well, there is always room for improvement which I am certain this manager knows how to do. Room comfort and new bedding were most comfortable. Kudos to a great stay out of my normal Courtyard that was already booked.

not the room i rented!

The hotel experience was typical and the staff were great. My reservation was for 6 days in a one bedroom suite for $114 per night and when I arrived at the hotel all they had available were studio suites. The clerk said they wouldn't have a bedroom suite available until Monday. Because they didn't have a bedroom suite available I was forced to rent another room for $94 per night for 6 nights. Fortunately the room right next to my original rented room was available but it also was a studio suite.

highs and lows

The staff was courteous, helpful and very responsive. The room looked very nice and was clean. The queen pillow-top mattress had seen better days and had no fluff left. The HVAC and Water Heater were extremely noisy and came on very loudly throughout the night. We could hear minimal road noise, but we heard a lot of noise from the parking lot at all hours. The combination of the three did not make for a restful stay. The pool was small yet nice. It closes at 9 pm which seems early - especially with the amount of noise in the parking lot and daylight savings. I cannot imagine that having the pool open later would have caused any additional noise. I would recommend a room away from the parking lot if I stayed again - as well as new mattresses.
