Lovely lakeside property

The cottage is just as pictured in photos, large open downstairs, nice patio with lakeview and GREAT beach. Upstairs can get VERY hot and the track coming in is super muddy but we had a great time there.

Our stay at Sandy Edge Retreat was the perfect start to summer. The cottage was the quintessential lake side getaway. Upon arrival our host Jennifer had provided us with everything we would need for the perfect weekend. There was a nice welcome package including some local coffee and information about the area.The cottage was clean, cozy and close to the beautiful town of Bayfield. Our family enjoyed days along beautiful Lake Huron and nights around the campfire. The cottage was the perfect family escape and we would love to visit again.

A great getaway!

Sandy Edge was exactly as described in the listing. It reminded me of my childhood cottage time in a wood cottage in Muskoka. I loved the wood interior and the thoughtful layout of the cottage. We had 3 couples and 2 kids stay during our time and we all had our own space. It was nice to have a couple bedrooms on the main level so that we had our own area. The house is situated at the edge of the woods and a ravine and feels quite private. The kids loved the "fort" on the deck and of course we all loved the beach. The beach was beautiful, with a sandbar about 20 feet out in the water to stand. The bonus of a lakeside property is that the beach is private. I am a big sunset person and I lucked out and was able to see a sunset every night of my stay. If you stay at Sandy Edge, open up your windows at night and listen to the waves lull you asleep. Jennifer was an excellent host, in contact before and during our stay. We were missing some paddles and life jackets and she came by with new ones! Some practical notes: there is no air conditioning- open up the windows and run the fans. We brought a couple extra fans to stay comfortable. The kitchen is new and beautiful, but bring your own BBQ tools, cheese grater and marshmallows roasting sticks for the firepit. There is no washer or dryer on site. We did our big grocery shopping in Goderich at Walmart and used Bayfield Foodland for a few essentials. It is nice to be situated between both towns. Bayfield berry farm was fun to explore.

Rustic Gem

We had an amazing time at Sandy Edge. The cottage is the perfect balance of rustic and equipped, and the beach is amazing. Bring water shoes to get past the ~20 feet of rock and play in the waves on the huge sandbar. Our kids are 5 and 7 and had a great time. We enjoyed the kayak and paddle boards, you may want to bring your own life jackets are sizes at the cottage are limited. We enjoyed bonfires on the beach, playing in the waves, and exploring charming Bayfield, only a 5 minute drive away. Would definitely rent again.

Beautiful week at a beautiful property

Our group had a wonderful stay at Sandy Edge Retreat. The cottage is very spacious and the owners are doing a great job with renovations and upgrades. With 7 bedrooms and two living areas on the main level, there is a lot of space to be together and apart when needed. Stepping into the backyard, you are greeted with amazing views of Lake Huron. From here you can continue down the beautiful staircase that opens up onto a massive private beach with panoramic views. Some days it feels as if you are in Mexico and not Ontario! Communication with the owner was very easy and we will definitely rent this cottage again.

Best beach and sunsets in Ontario

When I was speaking with the property manager she made it quite clear this property was a liike an old school cottage. The outdoor space makes up for iit. The sandy beach the waves the turquoise water the blazing sun and out of this world sunsets is better than anywhere in Ontario. We felt like we were in the tropics, minus the palm trees! Wouldn't hesitate to rent here again. Thanks for the memories!!!!
