If you want to detach from the whole world and experience a stay in wild rainforest this is the place to be. Amazing, small ,very simple, very clean hotel with everything you need. You can do yoga, massages, hiking if you like. And get totally healthy and get your metabolism working perfect with amazing vegetarian meals they provide. Btw we tried most of the restaurants and cafes in Puerto Viejo and food in Samasati by far is the best. Staff is very friendly and helpful we were very sad saying good bye to them. Definitely you should stay here if you want to experience beautiful jungle nature, do yoga and forget about everything else in the world
This is a excellent run retreat with a fantastic staff and cook Food was always tasty and plentiful Lots of wildlife to be seen If you have the chance stay, you will not be disappointed It is a bit rustic (which in my opinion only adds to the charm) but there is always hot and cold running water and hydro but
Very nice retreat with yoga, meditation and hiking. If you love Rainforest wildlife including the snakes and spiders this is the perfect place. My cottage was rustic and very clean. My only complaint is I didn’t have enough towels. If you had a bugs they will get them out so that was good. You hear will a lot of the wildlife at night. I didn’t get to see any monkeys or sloths. But they have 2 super cute cats on the property. The breakfast was good all vegetarian especially liked the rice and beans. The bananas are very fresh on the vine. The dinners were okay I preferred eating Costa Rica food in town. Everything there is vegetarian. Very nice hammocks. When going hiking I recommend using a guide even though there signs along the trails naming different plants and stuff. I think using someone to guide you is better. We saw plenty frogs, a baby snake( thank god not it’s mother) and harmless spiders. If you love yoga this place is perfect for you. There were a lot of people there for the yoga school. They have classes twice a day. Then they were extra classes for the students. I like yoga but I went to town everyday which meant that they had to drive us down to town and we had to be back by 8:30pm to them drive us back to the top. If not you had to walk, drive your own car or wait until morning. Trust me the road to get up there is winding and about a mile all uphill. The managers are very nice. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. I recommend this place to yoga, nature lovers, hikers and to people love staying in Rainforests.
This is my first review on trip advisor but I couldn't not pay tribute to this wonderful place! I chose Samasati while planning a last minute solo vacation, knowing that I wanted to go to Costa Rica and wanted to practice yoga. What I found was a place truly unlike any other. All the details of booking with Samasati were handled very professionally and efficiently by Liseth whom I communicated with via email and telephone on one occasion. She answered all of my questions and helped me customize a trip that fit the parameters of my coming and going perfectly. I worked out 4 full days of yoga with 5 nights of accommodation and all meals included. She helped me organize transport from limon airport after my local flight (which I recommend if you are trying to do all your international and domestic travel on the same day) and all the details of the trip went extremely smoothly. On arrival, Stephanie the resident yogi was there to greet me at the base of the reserve for the trip up the mountain to the lodge. Samasati's location is simply breathtaking with panoramic views of the bay, ocean, and horizon. It is separate from everything else in the area and you will really feel you've escaped to another world. I stayed in a private casita and absolutely adored the space. It was private, spacious, safe, clean, and so immersed in the rainforest you felt you were under open skies when you closed your eyes at night and listened to all the animal life happening around you. The climate was perfect in October when the rest of the country can be inundated with rain. The area enjoys its own microenvironment throughout the year with morning sun mixing with afternoon showers most days I was there. I loved experiencing both and had the opportunity to both lounge on a hot sandy beach and relax in a hammock on the porch while the rains covered the area. The food was delicious and abundant for every meal! I'm not a vegetarian but thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to eat as one for the week. I never felt there was anything missing from my diet and the dishes were always creative and substantial. All of the staff who work at the resort are friendly and engaging while always allowing for privacy and quiet if that's what you desired. I can't speak highly enough of everyone I encountered during my stay. Finally, my yoga experience with Stephanie. I took part in a private yoga retreat with her which is a one on one twice daily yoga practice in which she designs each day to best suit what you need in that moment. It is difficult to describe what that experience actually looks and feels like unless you just take the chance and commit to doing so yourself. Stephanie is one of the most intuitive, dynamic, and empathetic people I've met and when you couple that with the depth and breadth of yoga and meditation knowledge she draws on, it allows for the creation of a life-changing physical and emotional experience that is unique and personal to you. Thanks to the energy and ability she puts into designing those 4 days I see this trip as a true turning point for me and one that I won't forget years later. If you are at all curious or feel this is something you might need just go for it and let the rest fall into place. Thank you Stephanie and everyone at Samasati for this wonderful adventure. I will always recommend this place to anyone who asks! Pura Vida
I came to Costa Rica to experience the nature and have a relaxed vacation. At Samasati the staff was super helpful, friendly, and welcoming (mainly Stephanie, Hanna, David, Venessa and Max) They even packed food for me if I went out of town and didn't make in back to Samasati in time for Lunch/Dinner. David took me on hikes and showed me cool spots in the jungle that was breathtakingly beautiful. I feel the residence where I stayed itself (cottages and bungalows) could have been maintained better. Im a huge outdoorsy person and I have roughed it out many times in the wild, but but for the price paid I'd like a cleaner shelter to stay in. Every night I had multiple huge bugs in my room and/or bed (ants on my bed every night). David was kind enough to get the giant ones out of my bungalow whenever I requested his help. I didn't get fresh towels every day and my room wasn't cleaned everyday by the cleaner as well. The food isn't bad, but wasn't great. To sum up I had a wonderful travel in Costa Rica and I couldn't have stayed in a place more closer to the wild like I wanted.
Such a fantastic spot! We were there for a surf/yoga combo. Stephanie and Scott were wonderful. Booked us the best surf instructor, three days with Hershel and his cousin and we were standing up on boards, plus they took us snorkeling and paddle boarding. My husband and I each got a 90 minute, glorious massage. On top of that, there was the yoga, perfectly tailored to what we needed in that moment. And the location, it's just everything, jungle noise, view of the ocean and a perfect get away to really relax. Omg, and the food! My husband isn't vegetarian and he was loving all of it. Book this place!
Too expensive for what you get, staff wasn't very helpful nor attentive; room wasnt clean even after cleaning, limited variety of vegetarian food, difficult to get there, temperature of pool was always different (from too hot to cold)...I travelled around the whole world and had better hostels for a cheaper price.
As soon as you arrive at the property you are filled with the beautiful ambiance of a tropical rainforest. The Retreat center, yoga and meditation buildings and guest rooms were perfect. I will be back.
Perhaps clarifying that some accommodations had shared bath and there was no longer a Spa so massages were limited and did not include what was on the website. My daughter & I wanted the choc massage on my Birthday but found out that was not available because there was no longer a spa, The Reiki massage was great though.
Fabulous, restful stay at Samasati. By far the ideal place to come restore your energy and connect with nature. The food, service, hospitality and environment amazed us. We left replenished and eager to return for another yoga retreat!
