The hotel is in a quiet location not far from the city centre about a mile and a half . A taxi ride or a stroll to the centre. The hotel has a beer garden in the front that is a sun trap and lovely place to have a coffee drink or beer. The rooms are nice , I was upgraded to a suite which was airy and very comfortable ,two two seater settees and large tv in the living room and comfortable bed where I had a great nights sleep. Coffee and tea making facilities and a fridge . The bathroom was small but the show was a natural rainwater shower which throws out a lot of water -fantastic shower. The bath was old fashioned and deep and a little awkward to get into shower. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were great.would definetleybuse hotel again.
Had the pleasure of attending a wedding at this hotel. We had a compact room and it was extremely comfortable and well appointed. The ensuite was great, and the little blue light was a nice touch as it meant you didn't have to switch the main bathroom light on. It was a warm weekend but there was already a fan in the room. Irons are available on request and there was an ironing board in the room. The breakfast buffet in the morning was extremely well cooked, plentiful and restocked regularly. The room at the back of the hotel was a brilliant size for the occasion for both the wedding breakfast and dancing the night away. All of the drinks at the bar I felt were good value for money considering it was a hotel and could have been more expensive. I enjoyed everything about the wedding breakfast. I felt it was excellent quality and well cooked and the chefs were to be congratulated on both that and the food at the evening reception. The staff at the hotel went out of their way to make a friends special day extra special - from arranging all of the taxis, to being so friendly to all of the guests. A fantastic venue for a wedding and if I am ever in Cardiff, I would definitely stay again.
The building is magnificent. There is parking at the back of the hotel. The staff friendly and courteous. The decor is smart and trendy. A good lift service. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms have everything one could need. But, what I want from a hotel is a comfortable bed, our mattress provided us with a very uncomfortable night's sleep. However, with the minimum of fuss we were able to change rooms the following day. An annoying feature of the bathroom was that there was a small blue light shining all the time. Good for visits to the bathroom in the night but very, very annoying when the door was shut and the blue light shone right in ones face whilst in bed. We found the bedrooms to be hot even with the windows open. However, I think this is pretty standard in hotels in general. Another plus to the hotel is that it's situation in relation to Cardiff is excellent. Just a short walk into town for restaurants etc, there is also a lovely large park just behind the hotel.
We have recently moved to the area and thought we would try Jolyons for an evening meal. It has lots of promise from the outside but the atmosphere and ambience is so cold and impersonal in the very large bar area. However the experience got worse as we ordered drinks. We had a drink outside and were told we couldn't put them on the food bill as people had walked off without paying a real welcome. When we went order our meal we were told at 7.30pm that the kitchen was too busy as they had a function on and they were not taking orders for 20 minutes. The chef refused to take any more orders until he had finished with the function upstairs. Why this could not have been explained to us when we ordered drinks as we arrived I am not sure. It got a little better as the food arrived. The food was fair and the gentleman behind the bar's tried really hard to deliver a better service. However we will not be visiting again even though it's so convenient. So disappointing that the place has not really got an atmosphere or the keenness to make it a welcoming place. Shame as the location and building has lots of potential.
They book major wedding parties and blast the music (the macarena!) until midnight. They do not warn the guests, even when I told them I have a 6am flight the next morning. Now there are drunk people yelling out my window. Not my idea of 'boutique'.
We came across Jolyon's by accident and what a pleasant surprise it was. We were looking for a nice place to eat and were really impressed as the food was lovey and it was such good value. Would definately recommend it. The service was first class and the surroundings were really upmarket and really modern.
Stayed here for the night this week whilst in Cardiff on business. Great location, perfect room and wonderfully engaging and polite staff. In these times of unrest quality human behaviour is key. Enjoyed nipping out the back to walk through the park for my day of work! Thank you
We stayed in this hotel in 2015 and returned again this year. It is in a great location just a 10 minute walk from the heart of the city. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The room was comfortable and breakfast was good. There is a nice bar for a quiet night cap at the end of the day. We would recommend this hotel for a visit to Cardiff.
Easy walk for 60+ couple to stadium, castle, city center, train, National Express bus, gardens, museums. We also walked to the waterfront. Room was very pleasant with trees out the window. Anne in reception was especially helpful and all the other staff were great. We would definitely stay here again.
I spent one night here. On arrival I had a warm welcome and was even shown to my room. Unusual these days. My room was comfortable and cosy. Evening meal and breakfast both delicious. Great coffee - so often hotel coffee is horrible. This was delicious.
