My husband and I checked into this hotel recently coming from anacapri. Be prepared for a downhill walk with luggage. I found out later that if you call the hotel once you are dropped off by taxi in the Capri square they will send someone on a cart to grab your luggage. The location is fabulous though. Right by the most beautiful shops and restaurants. The bus is in the square to take you to both beaches or anacapri. This is a 5 min walk from the hotel. The entrance is pretty and the hotel staff are welcoming and gracious but be prepared for the rooms. Very dated decor and the bathrooms are really old and some might call it charming but for how much we made a night you would think I should have marble in the bathrooms instead of painted old tiles. The bed is uncomfortable and the pillows are flat. The room has a green light above the door that never goes off, not sure what it's for but it shines all night long. I think it might be for safety reasons. Our balcony was at the back of the hotel and overlooked a grass run down roof and old buildings. Nothing special but it would have been nice to have a great view. The cleaning ladies are nice and did a great job. Breakfast is typical for Italian hotels. Coming from Canada it's a little weak but can't complain as it's included so anything is fine. We were disappointed because of how much we paid to stay and it didn't feel 5 star at all. It's sad because everyone we told where we were staying at La Palma made such a big deal for us expressing how beautiful it was; maybe 20 years ago. Anyways book somewhere else for the money and ensure your hotel has a pool. The public beaches are awful and expensive to stay at. It's just not worth the hassle seeing how we travel so far to get here you want the best at your fingertips. Experienced luxury traveler not impressed better luck next time!
I went to Capri for a friend's birthday getaway weekend stayed at Hotel La Palma. The room was beautifully decorated room with a balcony overlooking the main island 'street', great for taking in the island buzz and charm. The staff were friendly and efficient at accommodating our requests, including providing quotes and arranging for private boat tour of Capri, great sea bathing locations, dinner reservations, island ferry tickets, train ticket changes... I can't say enough good things about the front desk service (especially Antonio)! The breakfast spread was amazing with a variety of options, including eggs, pastries, cereals, cheese, fruit, juice/coffee/cappuccino... Restaurant/ Bar staff were extra lovely for arranging candles and singing happy birthday in English and Italian! Hotel location is definitely a plus as it is also near two of the island's best night life spots, which is fun and really surprising cause one can't hear any music or sound from the hotel and its rooms.
Beautiful Location of the hotel in the center of Capri. We had initially a very bad room (107) looking at the garbage of inside garden... unacceptable for a 4 star hotel!!! However as soon as claimed at the reception they immediately changed the room offering an upgrade ! Very efficient.. however it seems that they do this all the times.. trying to sell that room even clearly knowing it is not at their standard. And this is not nice. They should simply use that room for other purposes or do something to cover the garbage in the garden.. the new room was indeed beautiful.. nice terrace overlooking Capri., nice bar and breakfast. On the service they offer for ferryboat tickets ( extra cost ) . However a very unpleasant and I have to say quite weird situation happened at the harbor where we were supposed to receive the tickets.. the person in charge from the hotel of this service gave us the ticket of the wrong ferryboat (Another time ) causing discussion with the ferryboat crew .. and this was unpleasant considering the long line that we had behind us.. and considering we pod an extra cost for this service ..
We came to Capri for a friend's big birthday week. An Italian travel agent recommended the Hotel La Palma as a central location for the three night stay. The hotel is truly in the center of the village. They gave us a nice room which was supposed to Not be on the main street but in fact was exactly on the main, noisy walkway. Thankfully they do have double pane windows keeping out the all day chatter coming from below. Where they really need help is in their bar & restaurant area. The terrace in the front of the hotel could be a gold mine for them but instead is always empty as they put zero effort into servicing people stopping off for a drink or a meal...Especially the hotel guests (us). There is a lovely spread for breakfast but the staff spends all of its time bussing the tables. You have to ask for espresso or cappuccino and sometimes twice and then wait and wait. They need a captain or head service coordinator in the breakfast room and not leave everything up to the bus staff. There is only 1 bar service person in the late afternoon and early evening and he seems too busy to care. Again, this could be a GOLD MINE for them as the whole world is walking by in this very, very busy summer season! Once I needed to break a €50 bill and the front desk could not oblige me. Antonino is the seasoned (and salty) concierge at the front desk and sometimes seems like the only one who knows what is going on...but he's so tired of the tourists, it shows. Then we needed an iron and board. Nobody answered the telephone so I went to ask Antonino at the front desk. "It is a €10 charge" he said. Really!?!! for an iron & board!?! Oh, and they only have two in the hotel. Then there is a €12 charge per bag of luggage from the Marina Grande to the hotel and back to the ferry terminal totaling €48...They should just raise the room rates a little bit and act as if this is a free service. The only way you save money here as an American is by NOT tipping anyone as the service is so mediocre and the nickel and dime fees are so annoying you say "Enough'! I've known "Sales Prevention Managers" at companies, (normally finance people) but La Palma seems like it is managed by a "Service Prevention Manager". Whoever owns this hotel is losing money and they are in need of a director from the École hôtelière de Lausanne.
La Palma was a gorgeous hotel on the Isle of Capri. We were on a Globus tour and spent 2 nights there. The white and yellow sitting room was fresh and beautiful. The buffet breakfast was delicious. The bar had a leather lady lamp which was very unique. The room had beautiful Italian tile floors and I loved the sunny yellow bathroom with flowers and plants painted on the shower wall. Big white fluffy towels were abundant, a comfortable bed and a balcony. Loved everything about this hotel and can't wait to return!
It' s located just 100 m away from La Piazzetta in Capri Town and once known as Locanda Pagano the oldest Hotel in the island. Rooms have balcony or terrace, bed is not comfortable at all, safe is very old fashioned with key, minibar is ok but no coffee machine or cattle in the room. I' ve asked for an upgrade room, but the reception couldn' t calculate the diffrence amount to pay, because of my reservation by an online booking web site. Breakfast is not bad (mozarella, tomato, rocket salad and virgin olive oil the best) and the restaurant is just after the lobby with closed and openair area. Lunch and dinner restaurant is an openair terrace in front of the hotel, plays live music in the evening with a nice atmosphere.
All my Guests and myself really liked La Palma Hotel : fantastic location, staffer were very kind, polite and efficient too. Rooms are very nicely decorated and kept very clean too. Breakfast is excellent and good food variety: simply amazing
First of all, my sister was on a tour from the states and they choose this hotel. For me a budget shopper, I would have never stayed at such a nice place as budget it my issue. The main room had beautiful white couches and curtains with bright yellow pillows. The staff was great and spoke English. One of the two mornings was a huge bacon and eggs breakfast with tons more food. the second the eggs and bacon were missing but maybe we had to leave real early so they skipped serving it. I was lucky as I got to ask for cappucino versus the American water coffee normally served. The location was great, nice rooms but the shower was IMPOSSIBLE to keep the water in the tub and the floor flooded. Anyon would be happy to stay there!
Came here with my girlfriend for a lunch whilst visiting Capri, and I could not recommend it more! Service was great, staff were very welcoming and the food was amazing. A definite stop for anyone either staying in, or visiting Capri.
We enjoyed our meal. We had to sit inside as all of the outside seating was taken. The service was fast. The food was very good. The staff did a nice job. Overall a very good experience for a nice lunch in a central location.
