My partner and I plus 2 other family members stayed for two nights whilst seeing floriade, we enjoyed our stay and were highly impressed with the restaurant meals, the quality and presentation were excellent, on Friday night our waitress provided the best service ever, her knowledge of wines and her people skills were great. We had no problems with our room, loved the big shower head, the bed was so comfy, great size tv. Overall, we had a great experience and would stay again.
When in Canberra a visit to the QT Bar is a must. Nick and Ghunta serve up the most amazing cocktails my fave their amaretto sours. Make sure this is on your list of must do's! Wonderful staff all round thank you.
QT was the Rydges, so the basic architecture is very much 3 star hotel/motel rooms size. It has been extensively renovated but the actual building cannot be changed, so the rooms still small. Our 'suite'was basically two adjoining rooms, one with a bed, the other a sofa. The location is great - you can pretty much walk to everything. This is handy as there is no guarantee of parking, so you may be moving your car every 4-6 hours if you are unlucky. The check-in was brusque but the lifts generally quick and efficient. Bathrooms clean and efficient but no actual bath and very small. Well stocked minibar and wifi quick and seemless. Penny pinching with no newspapers (even if you asked). Absolutely no facilities at all: they offer access to Fitness First in Civic, but this is a brisk 20 minute walk and you need to ask for a voucher before you venture out. Extremely loud music throughout entire entry area, bar, restaurant 24/7 - as a result never ate there. In house films had a great selection but kept stopping due to slow buffering.
Unless you like having every surface in your room covered in booze for sale, AC that will not be shut off even by hotel staff, maintenance staff that do not show up, uncomfortable couches in junior suite, mediocre bed, tiny bathrooms with predictable loss of hot water 20 seconds into a shower. Especially if you do not like an apparent dress code that objectifies female staff. Almost forgot - especially unhelpful front desk and concierge. On the other hand the restaurant is excellent, especially breakfast with the most helpful and friendly hostess on earth. Go for a meal, do not go upstairs!
I hadn't stayed at this hotel since it's halcyon days as The Lakeside. It's well set out with spaces on the ground floor in which to catch up with others for a coffee or a drink during a visit. It's convenient to the city and there are very good cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Very convenient. Comfortable rooms.
A group of us stayed here whilst on a golf and rugby weekend on Canberra. Check in was smooth and the rooms were great. Comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. We ended up eating both nights in the hotels restaurant. Food was great and the service from Noriel and Gabby was outstanding. Excellent wine list in the restaurant. The breakfast was the best I have seen in Australia for ages, omelettes cooked to order, slow cooked poached eggs, plenty of healthy options as well. Would definitely stay here again next time I am in Canberra.
I recently coordinated a group of 9 for a 2 night weekend away in Canberra for the Wallaby test match at Canberra Stadium. We chose the QT due to my great experiences of the QT Sydney. We expected that due to this hotel being in Canberra, it wouldn't have that Sydney vibe, nor would it have the level of service or professionalism that one would expect in a major city. How wrong we were. From the moment we checked in we were treated like VIPs, with the staff doing everything they could to assist, with big smiles and a welcoming warmth that thawed the chilly Canberra air completely. Check in was a breeze and extremely quick, and we soon found ourselves back in the bar in no time. Noriel, the bar manager, immediately introduced himself and ensured that our glasses were full and we were being attended to as they emptied (numerous times) . He introduced us to the Maitre'd of the restaurant, Gabby, who sorted us out with a restaurant booking for 9 at a very busy time, even though we were sure we couldn't get a table. Over the weekend, these two staff made the effort to know all our names, and always popped over to a restaurant table or the bar to see if there was anything we needed. All of the other staff were just as friendly and welcoming. The General Manager Jason also went out of his way over the weekend on no less than three occasions to check up on us. I am a very regular hotel user, all across Australia, and I must admit, (and it was also the opinion of the group), that the staff simply couldn't have done anything more for us. Even when we visited Lucky's bar, (the speakeasy style watering hole that you access via the barbers shop), late on the Saturday night after the rugby when it was packed, the staff waved from across the room, said g'day, and gave us the attention and conversation that I have experienced only in the absolute top hotels (and only when you are paying a big premium) In a nutshell, if you want to feel like you are truly a guest in a hotel, (and not just a visitor) then you must visit this place when you come to Canberra. For mine, this will be my Canberra business hotel from now on - The others that I have stayed at do not even come close to the service and the smiles that you get here. The team should be very proud of themselves
I stayed here over the weekend with my partner for a wedding. Up until the final ten minutes of our stay, I would have given the hotel five stars until I had to deal with the rude male staff member at the checkout desk. Somehow multiple drinks had been charged to my room although these were not mine. Until my partner came down, he refused to listen to me explaining that these were not my charges. Fine, okay, crisis solved. HOWEVER he completely neglected to tell me that he had already charged my card and that I had to wait for a refund until I saw ten minutes later while waiting for a taxi that my card had been charged. No apology was offered at all. I will never be staying here again based on this abhorrent customer service.
I contacted QT to book function room for a small group (less than 20) to hold annual meeting while sharing a good meal. Very disappointed with end result. Lots of staff changes so no-one seemed to know what was going on. Expensive (paid for room hire plus cost of food and drink), for disappointing meal with small servings, dessert pastry too hard to eat,they forgot to bring the bread, had to ask for water jugs and no offer of tea or coffee. Wouldn't recommend. Going to go to a restuarant next time!
I have spent 2-4 nights a year on business here over many years. Once Rydges (still part of the group) now badged QT. Check-in efficient. Rooms spacious and comfortable. Decent desk space for work. Comfortable chair to relax in. Bathrooms functional. Good shower. Decent toiletries. Wifi included. The restaurant is good - actually improved over the years - and a pleasant bar space. Breakfasts are good. Barista coffee an extra. Location great for CBD - but then that's true for anywhere in Canberra!!
