Having previously stayed at the Rydges Esplanade I was booked into the Plaza. Very different. Whilst staff at the reception where pleasant that’s were the positive experience ended. Seemed to be extensive water damage to carpets in common areas on my floor. Strong mouldy smell as well. Air conditioning was not what you expect in a reasonably modern hotel. Set very cold with limited adjustment. Also noisy. I turned it off at night to avoid freezing even though it was the middle of Summer. Car park area was like back of an dingy ally. Very little was done to present back of house areas. Needs major make to come up to other Rydges standard. Would recommend the Rydges Esplanade but not the Plaza.
This is a basic Rydges hotel. The furniture is basic but it’s clean and the staff friendly to patient. People trying to pay their bills without credit cards or Australian cash - people who asked which items in the minibar were free (milk) and which cost (everything else). Someone wanted 16 extra towels!! In just one visit I saw reception deal with all this. I was amazed how well they just handled this. The beds are the best part, very comfortable. A note to the hotel. Please drop the credit card surcharge - at 1.08% I think it looks cheap. Can’t you just wear the $2 per night - it is the hospitality industry after all.
Last year I spend over 250 days in hotels around Australia for work and this is the worst hotel I have stayed in in the last twelve months it’s dirty worn out and run into the ground don’t do stay here The fridge in the room is rusty the carpets are all stained the curtains don’t close it’s just bad
The room has 2 beds, easy to watch the flatscreen tv, and sleep in the other.Views of Cairns "city" from room. Opening balcony doors. Not a real balcony but permits air and gives feeling of space. Bathroom has bath. Very clean. Sure old and a bit run down, but irrelevant for cost, position and lovely staff at reception and housekeeping. Will definitely stay again..would have extended but fully booked.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in this very conveniently located hotel. The beds were very comfortable, although the room could do with being refurbished it was clean and tidy.
Staff are lovely, room size is decent in Cairns. You can still find Rydges Dream bed in this hotel which is awesome! Rooms are bit tired but clean and tidy. Location is good, walking distances to restaurants and supermarket.
The hotel is old and needs a revamp but the kibf delux room was clean and quiet. Dietary requirements not catered for on dinner menu so ate elsewhere. Reception staff exceptionally friendly and helpful.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and I would have given this hotel a straight 2 stars, if it was not for the pleasant and helpful staff which made this stay more enjoyable. In our room on the first night we had the toilet water consistently running. I mentioned this to the Duty Desk when we headed off on our excursion the nest morning. When we arrived back at about 5.30 in the afternoon, the staff on duty remembered my name and the request I had put in. The noisy toilet was fixed. A nice touch..caring staff. We decided to stay and not check out. There were some niggling faults with our particular room.. - the reading light doesn’t not work at all. - the legs on the coffee table are loose and the whole table is unstable. - the curtains have mould on them. - the double bed is too soft, so as one person moves, the other person Is disturbed. On a good point..it is located in the Cairns CBD area. Will I be coming back to this hotel? NO... Against the competition for this price point with accommodation in Cairns...there are better places.
Stayed here New Years Eve. Whilst the room was comfortable and the staff were friendly. We had a car and could not park off the street. Had to park on the road in regulated parking. Cairns has no free parking anymore btn 8.30am and 6pm 7 days. TV reception was crap and when reported to reception was advised it would not be fixed until next day.
Receptionist was friendly. The bathroom was very dated and old looking, definitely needs a renovation. The air conditioner was hardly blowing out any air therefore it was hot in the room. The living part itself was fine. You could hear the music from the Clubs all night so it wws Not peaceful. We were on the opposite side to the night Clubs and cold still hear them.
