It’s tough to give this hotel anything more than two stars, despite its wonderful staff and excellent hotel manager. Put simply, the hotel is very run down - the bathrooms are dirty, broken and stained while the bedrooms are tired and outdated with dirty carpet, mouldy walls and damp smell. However, the pool area is excellent and the hotel lobby and other interiors seem to be quite good. I just think the hotel is in need of a significant renovation. Credit where credit is due - when I raised my concerns with the manager, she took on my feedback while also moving me to a new room that was substantially better than what I was in - so it provided some level of resolution to my situation. I thank her very much for this as it made our stay much better.

The rooms are comfortable if run down with some tiles missing from the bathroom and the toilet leaking. the balcony is small and cramped you couldn't put a chair out there there would be on room. However the staff are great the lobby is nice and clean and the location is excellent right in the heart of the CBD. If you are looking for luxury this is not the place however if you want a comfortable room in a great location then this place is more than suitable.

When you have to be away from home you might as well be comfortable. Friendly staff and big rooms, nice views and comfy massive beds. The bathrooms are a little dated but when you feel the water pressure you won’t care, it’s amazing. I stay here every other week at the moment for work trips and I intend on returning.

I last stayed in this hotel many years ago and it was tired then. I was recently looking for a hotel during a recent busy time in Cairns and looking at the hotel's website images, the rooms looked like they'd been renovated. I booked a Queen Room on the hotel's website. The room was very tired and any renovation was surface only; Paint, decor etc. the carpet was a bit grubby, rust around fixtures in the bathroom, loud rattling non-effective air conditioner etc. On the positive side, the bed was comfy, the staff friendly. Expensive for an average room but have stayed in worse. Hotel needs a proper renovation.

The location is good but the rooms look tired. The tiles in the bathroom weren’t cleaned properly. Little annoying things like no DVD player but an outlet for one. No wine glasses in the room. The aircon system is dreadful such a pity as the bed is really comfortable but the aircon can’t be turned off as no fans and it is so loud. Even in low. If your staying a night then it’s ok but not any longer. And the reception staff don’t seem to have a clue.

If it weren’t for the fact I was working on business, I would have left before my first night. Rusty old fridge, mould in the bathroom. Night manager was extremely rude. Cleaners didn’t even take out the rubbish let alone change the towels. Expected much better.

This hotel has a great location with overpriced cafes nearby and the CBD a short walk away. Staff were really helpful and pleasant, bathrooms are dates, however they have great water pressure and plenty of space to layout your toiletries. The hotel foyer looks very dated - not the best introduction for guests. The rooms clearly are in need of maintenance and there are some visible improvements around the pool area and bar, but there is still lots to do. Compared to some of the newer hotels, the rooms have plenty of space and some have reasonable views across the city and water (if you are lucky).

It was a nice experience and value for money. Less staff but quite calm peaceful hotel. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Food was really nice, Even the view from rooms were not bad as it was situated in middle of the city.

First impressions were that this hotel was a little run down and the rooms could do with renovating. However, it had everything you required in a hotel visit. The rooms were comfortable and the pool was excellent (clearly has been renovated recently) All in all a nice stay, thanks Rydges

Wasn't sure with what to except as it's my first time staying at the Rydges. The hotel could do with a refurb, there is a lot of potential here! Andrea (the receptionist) was excellent and professional. We had some issues with our room, she arranged a move immediately and couldn't apologise enough. Thank you Andrea (and the team) for making our stay in Cairns a memorable one!
