Wish we stayed in Buffalo Galleria Mall Residence Inn. Did their best with updating however still showed signs of it being old. The upstairs bedroom had no doors. The girls bed downstairs was a murphy bed. So none of us had any privacy. Wear in tear throughout the unit. Stains on carpet. Shower upstairs drainage was slow. Units are separate from main building. Eating and shopping within 3 minutes. This is closer to Niagara Falls (there is a toll). Take about 30 minutes. We passed the other location which is approximately 10 minutes away on our way home and the area and everything looked much nicer.
The suite was fine. Personally I less like the idea of a sofa bed which you have to make it bed (which worked fine) in opposed to double queen beds. Apparently this is what I won with Priceline, and it costs less than a room with 'normal' two beds. Breakfast not that bad, even though it could be a little better. The all day coffee in he lobby is good. The hotel mentions that they go through renovations, even though we have not noticed that.
We spent a week here on Marriott points. The free parking was helpful for having a rental, the free breakfast was okay but worked, the "happy hour" type events on certain nights of the week were fun (free appetizers/drinks in evenings), and the setting was very homey. The suites are apartment style, not connected to the main lobby. Our executive king suite was perfect--"open concept," roomy and cozy at the same time, and housekeeping did well (although they didn't clean our room twice). The fireplace is cool, but of course fake. If you're looking at this hotel to fit your needs or you like the location for whatever you're doing, go for it. It was our base for exploring Niagara Falls, and even Toronto one day. I can see how the aging buildings might create issues here and there as other reviewers stated. The shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold, and would switch back and forth. Overall, though, it was a very restful experience and we're glad we picked a winner, especially since it was for seven nights.
I found the room to be very spacious and clean. The rooms have full fridges, stoves, microwaves and utensils. The only problem (and a small one) is that you have to drive or walk for the breakfast included. I'm sure that its fine in the summer but a big pain in the winter as I was there on a snow filled morning. The good news is they are constantly shoveling the walk and drive ways. The breakfast was good with meats, fruits, breads, bagels, cereals and even a waffle maker. I would highly recommend this property and its near the highway as well.
My husband and I stayed here for 1 night. We have never been to this hotel before but were pleasantly surprised. The grounds of the hotel were well manicured and well kept. Check in staff were pleasant, friendly and efficient. We were told that that evening there was going to be free drinks and food served in the lounge. Nice touch, however we didn't attend. The room was spacious, clean and well laid out. I loved the kitchen with all the amenities. We made full use of the fridge and microwave. Very Convenient! The sitting area with the fireplace was comfortable and cozy. The bathroom was clean and the shower pressure was good. The bed was comfortable but I wasn't a fan of the pillows. I always bring my own though because I am often unhappy with hotel pillows. Wifi worked great with no problems and free parking is always a plus! We were able to park right outside our room door so that's great too. I really liked this hotel and I'd definitely stay here again. :)
We spent 5 nights here and the first night was the worst. Our mattress was completely broken-down and should have been replaced years before. We've never experienced such a horrible bed in a name brand hotel! We arrived after midnight so nothing could be done until the next day. To management's credit, once the maintenance people sat on the mattress, it was replaced with a new one within hours. Unfortunately, the mattress issue was indicative of the overall condition of the property. Built over 30 years ago, it has a worn out feeling to it. A workman was making repairs to the stairway to our unit, so they are trying. The intake to the furnace had not been cleaned in a long time, so we used the fireplace insert for heat instead. Didn't want to breathe the recycled dust bunnies. Other items of note: no bed bug protectors on the mattress or foundation, no pillow or mattress protectors, pubic hairs stuck to the bathtub, deep dust on many upper surfaces. Our family booked 3 rooms and 2 people had an early flight, but the airport shuttle doesn't operate until 9am. Not very convenient, especially for business people.
Great location but could use a little updating. Still love it though. Close to good restaurants, shopping, expressways and supermarkets. Easy to get to from anywhere in Buffalo. I stay here every year when I come for a football game.
We chose to stay at this hotel again because we had a great experience our first time here. Our decision didn't fail us. Although we only stayed here for the night to be closer to the airport, the room was comfy and the beds were great. I had the sofa bed and thought that it was better than the one we had in Niagara Falls, ON. My niece had a great time with having the fireplace in the room. A first for her since we're from Hawaii. Although the kitchen area was small for a Residence Inn, we found our places in the room to enjoy our dinner before hitting the sack to catch an early flight. I only wish we had time to enjoy breakfast. But thank you for having coffee available throughout the day and night!
The Residence Inn in Amherst is a unique facility that is not laid out like your typical hotel. Different buildings house rooms that look as if Marriott took over place that used to be a townhouse complex. Whatever the case the king room we stayed in was big and comfortable. The breakfast was adequate and the price was right. The only thing my wife didn't like was that the exercise room was in the first building where the lobby is so she had to walk out of our building in the freezing cold to get to it. Other than that, the hotel sits less than five minutes away from the University at Buffalo, so it's mighty convenient if going there.
Took my granddaughters on a shopping trip to the Niagara Outlet Mall and decided to spend the night in the area. Always stay at Marriott hotels so when I saw this Residence Inn I booked it. Decided to splurge and booked the penthouse suite, knowing the girls would enjoy it. Got there a little after 4:30, check in is 3:00. They had no rooms ready for us. They told me we could check into one that maintenance was working on and would be done in a few minutes. We did. The garbage disposal was not working and the maintenance man was pretty frustrated.. He swore several times, then after 30 minutes he said it was fixed. He must have forgotten to close something, because water and all the crap from the disposal went all over the floor. He left and said he would be back. Came back carrying a bundle of guest towels and attempted to clean up the mess. Said housekeeping would be back to finish. We waited in the smelly room and I ended up calling the desk. I was told they were busy with other rooms...it was now around 6 pm. While we were waiting we used both bathrooms and one toilet almost overflowed, the other barely went down. Finally someone came to clean the kitchen, he was from laundry. He did a decent job, but told me they had problems with our suite all the time, suggested moving, which was my thought as well. I called and they said they were working on another suite and to come down. They gave me another suite in the back. We loaded all our stuff back in the car drove around to the back, unloaded and went up. Smelled better so we unpacked. Notice one table that was supposed to have a lamp had none and the breakfast bar that was supposed to have 4 chairs only had 2, there were 4 of us. We settled in and things were fine for a time. We heard people talking outside our suite and when the kids looked out there were people everywhere. Looked like they were having a large party in the suite beside ours. My daughter watched people going to the door, being asked for a password and going n. She said, 'mom there has be 100 or more people there. They were running up and down the entry steps and into the parking lot as well. I was exhausted and went to bed. About an hour later she woke me up and said the police were there and people were running all over the place. Things quieted down and then around 1 a.m. yelling started again, apparently the woman who booked the suite was trying to get back in...when I checked out in the morning the usual how was you stay never came up. Since there were others there I didn't want to start a big discussion over our stay. I got my receipt and we left, never to stay there again. Breakfast was fine, the outdoor area was nice, even though it was too cold to use it, since it was Oct.
