Danubius Hotel Gellert

I am returning from a second stay at the Gellert. It is a majestic hotel in a perfect location for public transportation, or providing an ability to walk everywhere. The coffee (cappacino machines) at the breakfast buffet is wonderful as are the views. The breakfast menu is extensive, the beds/bedding comfortable. The hotel is aging. Updates such as carpeting & updated plumbing would be important to do with the other properties/airb&b's becoming available in the area at more reasonable pricing. Most of the staff are very pleasant and appear to want to do their best for each customer (reason for the #3 rating for staff~ most were kind). I did make my reservation early and then needed to make changes just before leaving for my trip which became quite expensive. The hotel said they were not able to do the upgrade, but that I had to go through Orbitz to do so.

nice old hotel with flavor of Budapest; excellent and pleasant staff, convenient location. Thermal bathes accept people from outside the hotel, looked very busy and not always fresh. Excellent breakfast with supportive and pleasant staff. If I ever return to Budapest, I will definitely stay there again.

this hotel looks great from outside, but inside is like a motel 6. old dirty furnitures, old bathroom etc etc, unfriendly staff. we would not recommend to any of our friends. when we checked out, Front desk clerk asked us to pay tips for all hotel staff. Surprise !

There was no air conditioning in a hot number. Everything is very old windows cannot be opened. Shower is small it is impossible to take a shower without the water spil out to the floor. Service was good staff is friendly and professional. Food and service is excellent with a great breakfast included in the price.

Hotel was centrally located. In a safe location. Great view. Love the thermal bath. Would definitely stay again. I had a river view which was wonderful. Only issue is it can be a little noisy with the balcony doors open. Another note was I going on a Viking cruise and I was able to walk across the bridge with my luggage to my ship.

My friend and I decided to splurge on a fancy hotel one night on our European backpacking adventure. We thought the Gellert would be a perfect stop to rest and soak in the pools. It is a beautiful place with a friendly English speaking staff.

Our stay at the Gellert Hotel was extraordinary! The view from our balcony was looking right down the Freedom Bridge over the Danube river. The room was a bit dated but but it totally fit the atmosphere of such a grand hotel.

Beautiful old hotel, but needs a renovation, unfortunately. The staff was great!

I do not understand how this hotel can keep these 4 stars! Carpets and curtains are dirty, the windows do not close properly, the bathroom is in a terrible state! Not even deserves 2 stars! We had a flood in the bathroom! And the rooms are not air conditioned. The SPA is paying for hotel guests, except for the first visit. Avoid rooms overlooking the Danube, the noise of the trams outside the hotel is unbearable and they begin to circulate 4am. I am very disappointed and I think I lost beacoup money for nothing!

the hotel is a little past its prime and could use some updating. only some rooms have air conditioning. the breakfast buffets were wonderful, and the spa is terrific. the staff was quite friendly and helpful, but overall, the place is a little shabby. it was probably magnificent years ago.

The hotel is convenient if you're going to the Gellert thermal spa. My room was outdated and could use updating. It didn't reflect the grandeur of the historic hotel. Also, wi-fi is charged separately!! My room faced the courtyard, so it was quiet.

I Have stayed at Danubias properties in Pecs before and they were great, however this hotel was worn, dirty, and had a strange musty odor of mold and mildew. We checked into our room and the tub was dirty and the TV did not work. The front desk clerk apologized and upgraded our room to the Andrew Lloyd Weber suit which was much nicer, but still worn. The staff was great and so was the restaurant.

The food at this hotel restaurants are simply the best service and taste I have had at any other hotel restaurant.

This once magnificent Hotel now is totally neglected by the current owner. Forget about this place until major renovation takes place. I was there one day in the summer of 2012 when the outside temp was 104 F with 80 % humidity and there was no air condition in my room. For an extra $ 100 I was upgraded to a bigger room with a portable very noisy fan which did not make any difference. The painting on the window frame and walls are peeling off, dirty balkony etc The staff however is nice and the breakfast is superb. This Hotel needs a new owner !

Well the spa is very nice. Now first no wifi in the rooms unless you pay 25 dollars a day. Second no air conditioning. So I leave the window open. They I have perverted guy on roof masterbating outside my window. I call staff and they laugh. ( yes funny I agree in one aspect) but I would believe they would still do something about it. Yet 20 minutes later nothing done. So I had to keep my shades pulled in a hot non air conditioned room. Oh the rooms are old I mean old. Sink is 1 foot wide. Shower is a hand hold but no holder. Serious not a hotel I will visit twice. I will say the breakfast was excellent. Ok that is all in a nut shell.

Found front desk staff rather unfriendly as a whole. Other staff members, housekeeping, bellhops were friendly. Trying to get to and from the Baths proved quite confusing and not just to us. I believe we expected more.

Historic hotel in a very good location. Friendly staff and a world class breakfast.

This Hotel has tradition and history. Unfortunately the current owner does not maintain it well.

Great location, river view is breath taking We upgraded to the largest room. Very clean. No facial towel.. No tissue paper..But .. Full Breakfast fantastic breads, biscuits, cakes and cookies. Fresh fruits and vegetables. a large variety of salads, eggs meats. A real feast. We also enjoyed the coffee and fresh juices. Planing to be there again Feb. 2013

We loved the room, It was big and clean. It has a river view and at night the lit bridge was a fantastic sight. Breakfast was good, many choices and very tasty. Bad times in Hungary and the hotel try to save, on electricity at night.. some hallways were dark,There were No facial towels or tissue paper in the room. (even when I kept on asking never got either in the 4 days I was there) We did get robes to enjoy in the pools and the spa entrance was free. This is an Hotel with an old charm I love the whole experience and will be back in a year.
