We stayed for three days and were impressed by a) the staff & b) its quiet location. Breakfast is a buffet & can be a bit of a bun fight, but that's dependent upon the clientele rather than the facility. Staff cleared tables very quickly & were extremely helpful in providing specific requests such as fruit etc. The rooms are small & very short on storage space, but are kept very clean with complimentary water & tea/coffee each day. Laundry services are cheap & very speedy- you pay the lady who returns your clothes in cash. The location is perfect for exploring the historic district and for walking over to 'Pest' to shop or popping to the Gellert for a spa. Local restaurants such as Ildilko's round the corner are cheap & cheerful or pop over the bridge in a (cheap) taxi to the New York Cafe for a (pricey bit worth it) treat ~ its a-mazing!! For runners/walkers there's St Margaret's island about 20 mins walk away & then a running track right round the edge of 5.3km - great first thing in the morning! Evening wise, there's lots of bars & restaurants within walking distance or a busy night life just across the river. All in all-we'll def be going back
My husband and I stayed at the Carlton Hotel for one night prior to taking a Danube River Cruise. What a gem! Our room was nicely appointed with a kind bed and couch that could be made into another bed. Since it was the two of us it was nice being able to sit on a couch in the room. The bathroom was spacious as well. I wish our view had been better. We had one window that overlooked the roof of the building across the street. The hotel was very quiet. Breakfast was included. It is fairly standard food but it was good and included in the room cost. The location is situated on a hill, so you either walk down or up depending on which street you approach from. Since we didn't have a car, we arranged with the hotel to be picked up at the airport. It was about 32 Euros or the equivalent in HUF. At the exit area of the airport, a person had our name on a sign where we checked in to wait for our driver. I believe it's a company that coordinates pickups for passengers who pre-arrange airport transportation. Unfortunately, we had to wait about an hour for our driver which was annoying, but since this was our first time in Budapest, we took the safe route. It took about 40 - 50 minutes to reach the hotel. You could only pay the hotel in cash, which made it very convenient for us. The hotel is located on the Buda side and very close to the castle. We walked up to the castle and it was a short 20 minute walk. It is quite a climb and you do need to be careful of some of the steps, but so worth seeing. The view is incredible. We almost made the changing of the guard. There is a timeline outside you can read that gives the history about the castle and grounds that's worth reading. The Buda side is much quieter than the Pest side. We loved the peace and quiet and wished we had booked more nights prior to the cruise. We would definitely return!
We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The location was great right by the chain bridge which takes you to all the amenities in budapest. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff where very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in budapest. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.
It's the second time i stay in Carlton Hotel. Hotel is located 300meters from chain bridge, in a walking distance from many tourist attractions. Our double room was big, but the bed wasn't the best. Breakfast was good as well. Great value for money.
Spent one night. Room comfortable. Had free Wifi, safe, fridge and electric jug in the room plus normal tea bags. Beds a bit low to the ground but comfy. Breakfast included and ample. Entrance to hotel down short but steep cobbled drive with some steps and handrail. Handy location for the funicular and church on the hill but need to walk across the bridge to Pest for buses.
We arrived on an early morning train and were delighted to find our room ready for check-in. Room was comfortable and so convenient to all the sites we wanted to see. It is just a short hike up steps to the Fisherman Bastion and Mathias church and a couple of blocks to the Chain Bridge. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was more than adequate!
Very nice hotel! Location wise it is perfect! We stayed here for 1 week. It is near a lot of tourist attractions. Lots of restaurants in the area (we went up to the fisschermans bastion for the restaurant almost every day). The staff of the hotel is very friendly. The cleaning staff made sure our room was tidy every day and we never needed to ask for it. Free water bottles in the fridge (the staff noticed we only used the still water and supplied us automatically with this without asking for it :) ) The rooms are rather small but then again why stay in your hotel room all day? Although we did not really like Budapest that much we did love the hotel! It was a great place to stay and the breakfast buffet is lovely.
Excellent four days in Budapest. The Carlton is centrally located. Good rooms, very clean and good size bathroom. Good toiletries and complimentary water left in mini fridge each day. Beautiful breakfast to set you up for the day.
Stayed for 5 nights with my two sons. The hotel is located quit central on the Buda side, with a short walk to several of the best sights Budapest has to offer. Not impressed with the breakfast since it was highlighted as especialy good in the online booking sight we used(Booking.com). There was not a big variation of things to eat so we more or less had the same breakfast all 5 mornings. Friendly and helpful recepsionists.
Located in Buda, next to Szecheny bridge and in a quiet alley, absolutely the best location in Budapest. Very good restaurant next to the hotel and a minimarket 100 meters away. And the best thing; close to the main tourism objects, also hop-on-hop off and other services very near. Minus for the telephone ringing early in the morning on the corridor (for the staff) and waking us couple of times. There are altogether 9 floors, 2 floors under the reception. Sill it looks (and feels) like tiny little cozy hotel. The safety was free and every day they brought two bottles of water to minibar for free. I'd say Carlton is a very good three star - hotel.
