Best thing about this hotel is Geert, one of the receptionists. Want to go back just to see him again! Love him. Comfiest hotel bed and pillow I have ever experienced. Very clean, excellent service from reception and a very pleasant stay. Bit of a way from the centre of Bruges, we had to get taxis, however the hotel offer a taxi service for €10 each way. However, it's all about Geert!
Hotel was clean, spacious and suited us well for our visit. A bit further out of the town than we expected (our fault for confusing 10 min drive with 10 minute walk!) but the deal set up with the local taxi company worked very well. We were a bit confused by the signage relating to care home/retirement homes and the aloe vera sales cabinet in the lobby (?!) which slightly took away from the modern feel and great furniture in the bar and restaurant but no harm done! But overall, our biggest compliment goes to the staff, most especially Geert. We were initially thrown by his quirky personality but soon warmed up to it...and by the end of our visit, were delighted to have a photo and a kiss goodbye from this delightful chap. He added the warmth and personality so crucial to a hotel stay.
We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days 8 people in the group and from arriving to checking out we couldn't fault our stay the hotel was spotless and clean the staff so helpful and friendly.Great to have free parking the rooms much bigger than most hotels a massive thank you to all at the hotel and we will definitely be coming to stay again many thanks again Jamie
The Velotel is a very good clean hotel. The staff are all very friendly and if you happen across the receptionist named Geert then be prepared to have a little joke and a chuckle with him. We stayed up late in the bar and no one seemed to be put out at all, even when we were the only ones left!! We didn't use the gym, restaurant or sauna so cannot comment on those, but the beds were comfy. I also liked the way that the taxi service was organised, very effective, simple and not too costly, which is good for a hotel that is not in the heart of Brugge.
outside the city near a lovely green park. the staff were very accommodating and friendly, the room was clean thank goodness for a lift for the luggage. The only thing that was a bit of a nuisance were some of the bus partys people who came in took over and made lots of noise coming and going. the road to hotel was dug up and made it hard to find hotel. had a trip into city 20 euros in taxi...hardly believe it was so near to the metropolis.
Stayed here for one night whilst visiting Bruges. Large, clean and lovely room with a spotless bathroom. Yes, it is outside of the centre but people know this from reading about it surely. It is not "out in the sticks" it is a 25-30 minute pleasant walk to the centre and a 10 euro taxi journey if you prefer which the hotel provide a taxi service at this fixed price. If you choose to just grab a cab it is 12ish euro. The lady on the check in desk was lovely and incredibly helpful. I would stay here again 100%.
How's that for an opening.. but that's what it is. It is a reasonably modern hotel, but an overhaul is due. I mean standing in a bathtub to take a shower is kinda previous century. We stayed only for one night, for a weekend visit to the gorgeous city of Brugge (Bruges) in Belgium. Overall it did the job. Breakfast was OK, a continental breakfast. Bread was tasty and of good quality. As you might expect in Belgium, by the way. Coffee was a disappointment. Belgium once had exquisite "Rombouts" coffee, but in the hotel it was all DIY coffee machine slop. The room was ok, albeit quite noisy. I could almost overhear the neighbour word for word, and I bet he will have "enjoyed" my snoring. So there you have it. Not a hotel for a business visitor for whom hotel stays are a nuisance to begin with. If you have a more lenient mindset, and figure the hotel is NOT the reason for staying in Brugge, then it does the job. A pleasant extra is that the hotel has bicycles for rent. A tip: Ask the desk clerk to set the handlebars such that you sit upright , and don't have too much weight on your hands/wrists. Reason: The bikes do not have shock absorbers, and much of the city center is paved with cobblestones. Trust me on this. Finally, the hotel bar has fabulous local beers on draught.
This hotel is situated about 2.5 miles out of Bruges city centre on the edge of a residential and industrial area, but it is far enough off the main road to be quiet. The building is very modern as are the rooms. We eat here the 1st night but found that they only do a buffet and it was quite expensive at nearly 35 euros pp. A large beer is 5 euros and a small beer 3 euros. There are no eating places that we could find within a reasonable walking distance and we had to pay 20 euros for 2 vouchers at reception for return taxi fares into the centre of town and back. Breakfasts are also buffet and they do a good continental selection as well as bacon, eggs, sausages, beans, etc.
Used this hotel for just one night to break the journey. Although the room price was fairly competitive, we were a little disappointed regarding the food and drink prices, especially as they weren't displayed anywhere obvious. We did ask for a wine menu but we were told we could buy it by the bottle or glass but no offer of prices or types. Rather than look foolish by continued questions, we find it easier to just order another beer. We had no complaints of the room, clean and well laid out. Shower was a little weak, tho, our preference is a power shower so this may be ok for some people. This hotel will suit some people, but it's unlikely we would stay agian
This hotel is located 25 minutes walk away from the city centre and is completely off the beaten track. The hotel is clean and presentable and the room was clean and had TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer, safe, trouser press/ironing board and plenty of cupboard space. We didn't sleep very well and in the morning I had a back ache, when I looked, the bed had a very thin (and I mean VERY thin) mattress. The pillows were more like cushions for a couch than pillows. The bed was very uncomfortable. The breakfast was awful. Not worth 15 euro per person. The pastries were rock hard and the cooked breakfast was cold within 2-3 minutes of taking it out of the serving dishes and the simple things like bread at the toaster was not replenished quick enough. There were many tables left unattended after people had left the restaurant, which made the place look untidy. Last but not least, when we checked out our bill was read out to us and it became apparent that there were two x 10 euro taxi journeys (total 20 euros) that had been charged to our room. We queried this as we did not use a taxi at all. The receptionist checked when they were booked and we were told the times. It was evident that someone had either charged these to our room or made a mistake in processing so I insisted these were taken off the final bill. I gave the receptionist feedback regarding the taxi issue, the bed/poor night sleep and the breakfast and he wasn't interested so I asked to speak to the manager and I was told that I should send an email. All-in-all, not the best experience and we would not recommend staying here but if you do, check your bill before you leave!
