The staff was very friendly. We have stayed at this property many times when we come to town. We love the space in this hotel and the location. We were going to the zoo, playing laser tag and some other activities in town. This was right in the middle of all of the things that we wanted to do. Plenty of food and shopping around us. The room was large enough for a few of our friends to come over. We had a great time and it felt like we were in our own apartment. The kitchen was awesome and helped us save money. The breakfast was delicious and I tried something new. I didn't care for the sea weed for I liked the adventure of trying it. I felt more healthy with it on my breakfast plate. I used the app to request some items for check in and they had them ready. I think the lady name was Tammy or Tamara. She was very helpful and had a great attitude.
There are some good things to say about this hotel. It is clean. It has a stove, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher if you plan to stay for a period of time. It was mostly quiet, but I could hear people upstairs talking and singing. The bed was comfortable. Although we did not eat breakfast at this facility, it appeared that they had several items, and the fruit looked fresh. However, the traffic to and from this property from downtown Birmingham is just horrendous. That issue alone would cause me not to stay at this hotel again. Please note that there is an upstairs and a downstairs. There is no elevator of course. If you have lots of luggage, as we did, please be sure to request a downstairs room. The icemaker never produced enough ice to suit us. Perhaps you can get ice at the front desk. The front desk people were very nice and helpful. It appeared to me that they needed to do more maintenance around this property. It just reminded me of an old apartment building really.
My wife and I stayed here one night in May 2017 - the night after the Geico 500 NASCAR race at Talladega. It was easy to find, and we received a warm welcome at check in. The accommodation is in a series of small buildings set in a cul de sac - four per building. Rooms are very open plan, modern, comfortable and clean. The enhanced wifi didn't work, and I spent half an hour on a helpline to fix it. We found out later that the basic wifi worked fine (hmm). Parking is free, and outside each building. Breakfast in the lobby is also free. We arrived 30 minutes before the end, and there was very little left. The catering operative though was very nice. We like Marriotts, and would stay here again. I'd love a "Helpful" vote if my review helped you. Thanks :-)
Stayed in this hotel for three nights when in the area for a conference. Overall this was a pleasant experience. The property is an older property, which can be seen in some of the room furnishings. However, the staff was pleasant and friendly, and everything was as advertised. The breakfast was average, nothing very special there.
I have stayed in plenty of Residence Inns and this one was not my favorite. First the good: The check in process was pretty seamless. The staff was very friendly. The room appointments were very nice. The bed was super comfortable and I had a very, very good sleep. The internet was easy to figure out (not always the case in a hotel) and adequately fast. Now the challenges: The room was really small. The space between the couch and the TV was really minimal. There were NO places to charge my devices near the bed. Fortunately, I had an extension cord in my backpack. Otherwise, I don't know what I would do. I was a little annoyed that it wasn't obvious where my room was from the instructions provided. It wasn't really that bad but because it was raining hard, it was extra aggravating. Finally, the breakfast provided was not up to the level that I have experienced at other Residence Inns. It wasn't bad but in the past, I was blown away and I wasn't this time. Given all this feedback, I still would choose to stay there again. It was perfectly acceptable and for the things that count (clean, safe, and comfortable) it hit the nail on the head.
We stopped in Birmingham on our road trip to Orlando for the night. I ran to check in at about 10pm, the woman at the front desk was very sweet and pleasant. Our room was so large and comfortable, the bed was so nice that we allowed ourselves to sleep in a bit. Very nice stay!
I go here frequently and they treat me like family! Upgrade my room! The breakfast staff greats me and asks if they can help me in any way. Look for Marilyn in the breakfast room , she is just great! If you want friendly people and a great place to stay go here!
I stayed at this location last week for business and had the most enjoyable stay. The front desk clerk Tammi was extremely nice and very helpful. She treated me with some of the best customer service I have ever been treated with. The room was clean and breakfast was amazing. Thanks for a great stay.
Booked a King Sofa Studio room as there were three persons in our party. First thought after getting into the room, "where is the bathroom"? In the very back corner of the room between an ill-placed night stand, there is a very very narrow hall that leads to the bathroom area. The space between the night stand and wall is so narrow, we moved the night stand lamp to the living area, and the night stand to the closet. Getting ready for bed, we attempted to change the sofa into a bed; not enough space. We opted to rearrange the living room furniture so that the sofa could be converted to a bed. Actually quite ridiculous that Marriott requires its guest to change furniture locations to make the room usable. Aside from the room itself, how about hotel attitude. We stayed at this hotel in March 2017. The local promotional magazine inside the room was dated October 2016. "Things to do in Alabama Fall 2016"! Five months have passed and nobody bothered to change out the magazines? FAIL! This hotel is close to 40 years in age. The hotel is tired. Room finishes are tired. Room furnishings are tired. The room was clearly designed for queen size bed but has been stuffed with a king bed to remain relevant. We have stayed at better!
The staff made me feel like at home. Very confortable beds, full kitchen and large room. Outdoor pool and BBQ in good conditions. Tammi, Victoria and rest of the crew always smiling and happy to help. I will definitely visit them soon.
